Don't forget to factor in the expense of your equipment like your embroidery machine and the maintenance, your heat pressscissors, forceps etc. Embroidery machines and repair of such is not cheap.

Hi Angela, This particular video is extremely intuitive and an incredibly important one as well, because as you said selling or pricing your product to high you only have very few sales, to low you make no money at all and you would be working for free but also you, are in a minus category because of the materials you had to purchase in the first place to make the said product with and sometimes you might break even, with reference to all materials purchased but your in a minus category again when it comes to your time and labour. So doing your own research is absolutely paramount if you not only want to make money, but critical if you want your business to be able to grow and be profitable for the short term and most importantly for the future, Thank you once again for this truly and incredibly thought provoking video.

Would you consider receiving a black/white chiild drawn picture, scan and make a shirt or even a pillow cover embroidered with their drawing on it? great keepsake. just thought about it, becuase it's something I'd want to buy. Also, I did have a jewelry piece done this way. Although it's adorbale and never worn, it's already turn a darkish color :( An accent pillow cover woould be so cool. or even if you do this same thing you're doing but on a pillow cover. My kid would love anything with her name on it hehe

Your profit fails to take into account the cost of utilities, wear and tear of your equipment, maintenance and repairs, and your processing time for shipping. You also have to add in the cost of taking all those packages to the point of shipment including vehicle fuel, vehicle wear and overall devaluation of your very expensive vehicle. I went through all this with my local SBA when I started a business a long time ago. Your profit margin is a LOT smaller than you think if you examine it the way they teach you to. You have to add in ALL of those little intangibles to get to the correct number.. I was doing photography at a local drag strip, and walked in the house with a bundle of money every week. It amazed me until I sat down with someone from the SBA who opened my eyes. I found that I was undercharging by a LOT. I've also spoken to business people who did construction, plumbing and electrical work professionally. One guy had a plumbing company with over 30 trucks/crews working for him. He was handling huge sums of money year after year, but wasn't getting rich. So he went to a seminar that his wife came across. That is where he did a full evaluation of what he was doing. It turned out that all this hard work was more for the employees than for his own family. He restructured his company using the new business model, and began charging way higher prices for his work. He did get a lot less contracts, but his profit margin compensated for it. He reduced his number of very expensive trucks to 3 (1/10th his previous number), dropped all but the best mechanics he had, saving a hugs amount on insurances and benefits and began making about 40% more overall, while working half as many hours. My point is, go talk to someone at the SBA to develop a professional business model. You'll be glad you did in the end. SBA = Small Business Administration. It costs you nothing, and you get the benefit of business Men/Women who are retired or semi retired. Old People Know Stuff! The lady who helped me was a retired black women who worked for years during the "Jim Crow" years, and had never properly valued her work. When she finally realized what her work was really worth, she became a millionaire and retired. Now she helps young dumb kids like me, if she is still alive. I keep forgetting this was 35 years ago. But the principle remains the same. Old Folks Know Stuff!

My hubby has lost his leg and he is out of work and I have order blanks as much as I could afford and thread and I’m going to order the vinyl and the heat and bond lite ! I am trying to stick to the basics ! Is there any way I could start out smaller on on my ribbon ? Everything else adds up ! We have a flea market by us too so I’m praying I’ll get blessed and be able to sell the tutus and shirts and maybe even make some side items but I grabbed a lot like ten colors of tulle and now I need the ribbon ! I want my what I make to be quality ! And I really wanna buy all the ribbon u have to start but is there a couple colors that would work good at first to get some $ back so I can afford to move up ? I’ve got so many colors and I need this ribbon and I’ve priced and your is very close to the others that is better or not even as good ! But I need to many colors lol by the way ty I am so motivated by you ! And I’ve lost my girl and my mom and now this man stays in the hospital and you motivate me ! I’ve always been a stay at home mom and I really wanna make this work ! Others do !
