Watching your movie Minimalism on Netflix honestly changed my life...for the better. I’ve begun to start decluttering and getting rid of clothes/things/etc. that I don’t need and man has it made my life easier. I watch your videos quite often, and the one with Gary Vee completely opened my eyes. Just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, bro because even tho we don’t know each other, you’ve helped changed and improve my life. Thank you.

My main strategy is to pack ahead of time. I've found packing last minute leads to pressured I-might-need-it thinking which makes me bring too much, so I strive to pack at least the day before. Another strategy is to place all the clothes I think I need to bring on the bed, review and review, switch out things so I can opt to create a few outfits from a minimum number of pieces, and bring only the results. Great video, Matt, and very helpful.

Something I started traveling with that I’ve loved has been switching out my liquid toiletries with solid ones- such as a small bar of shampoo, bar conditioner, and one body/face soap bar. I find it lasts longer than the liquid I can take with me and I typically always have plenty left over for the next trip. I also don’t have to take it out of the bag for security check because they aren’t liquids. Saves some time during security check through.

While I'm not a minimalist, I try to get as close as I can. Packing for travel has become a very enjoyable experience for me :) I remember when I was a kid, my parents would always tell me to get stuff "just in case"... and we ended up carrying around huge, heavy luggages for a 10 days trip. And I MAYBE used 40% of what I brought. 30 years later, I'm happy to bring ONLY what I use, and a carry-on luggage + a backpack is all I need too! It feels SO good :D Light on the shoulders, light in the mind. Cheers!

I have the exact same suitcase and absolutely love it! I always travel carry on- last summer I went to Europe for three weeks and it worked perfectly. Just a tip- the bag is designed to put the clothing and soft stuff in the side that you can cinch down, while the mesh zipped part is for more fragile/ hard items because it has a more protective shell.

Moisture wicking cloths are a must for me. They can be washed out in the sink every night and worn the next day, depending how minimal you want to be. I have the same rule as you for underwear.

I'm not a minimalist by any stretch of the imagination but I did learn a lot (from youtube) about minimizing when I traveled halfway around the world last year. I traveled for 3 months with only a carry-on bag (an Osprey backpack) and a big purse. I had about a week's worth of clothes that were mix-and-match items to make it look like I had more clothes. After a couple of weeks I was getting tired of my clothes but after the first month I was like, yeah, I kinda like not having to worry about if my clothes look good - I already know they do whichever one I happen to pull out of the backpack that day. I love what you said here about - "I don't care what you think, this is what works for me". I had to remind myself of that for 2 different things - when I packed something that the youtubers were saying not to pack, and when my family insisted I'm going to regret getting a backpack instead of a roller, and not availing of checked-in suitcases. Anyway, there are a few things I would change - I'm still a bit wishy-washy on the backpack vs roller thing because it was really awesome being able to carry my bag everywhere even in non-roller-friendly terrain and not have to worry about the bag getting snatched when I'm not looking. But yeah, after a while it does get to be a hassle to strap in and out of the bag and there are days when I just didn't want to carry the thing. I can also relate to your "extra undies" thing. Especially being a woman who does sometimes get caught with "the flow" unprepared. It's just better to just throw the thing out instead of carrying the thing around until I get a chance to do laundry. Eeek.

I love traveling with only carry-on sized luggage + a backpack, and of course doing laundry while on the trip! I do my short trips this way, as well as trips as long as 6 weeks abroad. Works really well for me and I still get lots of variety in the way I dress.

After much trial and error I've finally reached the stage (since the past 4 years) where I can travel with just a carry on and my small handbag for 2 weeks. Toiletries, clothes, shoes etc! Sometimes I even walk with items I don't use (trying to work on that haha). Thanks for your awesome content. I'm a new sub (since January) and I think you're inspirational. Keep it up!

Random person here, but don't skip Jeju at this time of year. Its great! You might not know that you can also take a Busan to Fukuoka ferry. If you're gonna be in the city, you can get a cheap mask at any pharmacy but you might want to buy a higher quality one before you go. Its yellow dust season. Oh and don't miss the Korean east coast!

I moved to Spain about a year and a half ago and since then, I've been using the eBags Weekender to get around. It's big enough to carry my crap and I can sometimes get around checking it on airlines like Ryanair where they're super stingy with space. An extra pair of shoes, a couple pants and a few shirts will usually do it for me. I have the same philosophy on underwear in that I'll always pack one extra. If it's a bike trip, I have an Orucase, which is amazing for if you're a cyclist. Check your bike like a normal bag and generally all of my cycling clothing fits in there as well. Excellent video, Matt. Keep it up!

Because I am such a better minimalist than you, I pack as follows: 1) I have not bowed to the consumer pressure and purchased a travel bag - as I pack my essentials in a plastic grocery sack. This ensures that I blend into the local population by looking like either a hobo, or a hipster douche. 2) I do not take ANY extra clothing. When soiled, I wash any required garment in the hotel pool / sink / toilet / sewer drain. When washing said clothing, I AM BUTT NAKED. (Don't act like your not picturing it, ya damn sicko). 3) I do not own a toothbrush. Instead, I simply apply a small dollop of Dawn dish soap (blue) to my left middle finger and AGGRESSIVELY rub my teeth....... while standing outside on the curb...... making AGGRESSIVE eye contact with any and all strangers. 4) I have foregone the use of deodorant in favor of simply smoking more Marlboro Reds. That's called a "two-fer" right there! 5) I do not pack a phone charger. Instead, anytime I need to make a phone call (texting is traceable through the government) I purchase a new burner phone WITH CASH from the nearest Walmart. Then, at the end of every phone call - I get the cathartic joy of twisting and crushing the phone in my hands like Walter White in Breaking Bad. 6) I too take my own coffee: Folgers frozen coffee, with flavor crystals. Then, when I need a little pick-me-up I "rent" a lady of ill-repute and snort said coffee right off the back of the hotel toilet seat...... while she (or he..... come on man, it's 2019) slowly pats my back while saying "there there" in a loving and motherly way........ just. like. mom. used. to. do. 7) I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING!

Marie Kondo is highly overrated. The way she packs and organizes stuff is how my mom told me how to pack and fold clothes when I was just a little shit, almost 50 years ago. In Germany we'd call the Kondo way of organizing just "logical" or "rational" or "generally good housekeeping". Nothing to it.

The incase EO travel backpack has been an important part of my short trips, especially how tough regulations with airlines has gotten lately. Only pack what you need if needed buy something on holidays and donate when back. Works for me for a couple of years now and really enjoy travelling light. And the extra pair is a must
