How I Make a Living as a Minimalist without a 9 to 5 job

One of the questions I get asked the most is "what do you do for living?" I thought it might be helpful to share my journey towards financial independence and how I'm able to live in one of the most expensive states without working a traditional 9-5 job. I hope you enjoy.
EDIT I just noticed that the music is too loud! I will pay more attention in the future videos :)

I admire your vulnerability and honesty. Sharing a personal financial story is always going to generate criticism, especially from people who wish they had the same lifestyle. What people don't appreciate are the decisions and sacrifices that brought you here. Bravo to you (and your husband) for all your successes.

@@nonrepublicrat I can't speak for Angela but I agreed with her comment about vulnerability in this video because of what she said in her next sentence. Vulnerability: the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. As Angela said, "Sharing a personal financial story is always going to generate criticism, especially from people who wish they had the same lifestyle." I hope that explains the use of that word for you.

I agree with this because I'm in the same situation I work for my husband's business and I had a lot of health issues and I had to quit working but I'm very grateful that I'm able to do other things now and slow down my current living situation so I can enjoy each and every day but I'm still pulling other sources of income in myself. You're never going to make everyone happy because there's always people out there that don't want to work hard or that are jealous of what you may have so I totally understand because I deal with this myself because we rent out a beautiful beachfront condo in Florida and there are a lot of haters at times because they're jealous that they had the same thing but yet they're not willing to do the work so keep doing what you're doing I think it's wonderful and as long as you're happy that's all that matters

The first part, being able to buy your own property in your mid 20s seems so, so far from my reality and it's a huge roadblock though... after finishing university I could land my first real job (which wasn't that great to be honest) around age 28, and then 10 years after that, I am still paying my student loan and renting the place we live in. Not that I am hating on the video, but both my wife and I come from backgrounds where making enough money to even get your own place is a feat in itself, and it demands working a crazy amount of hours D:

Thanks so much for being transparent about your financial life. In one of your videos, when you mentioned you have rental income, I automatically assumed you married into money and hence why you can afford to live your lifestyle. Never in my wildest imagination would I have assumed you are house hacking like me. You have no idea how inspiring this video is to me. I have a 20 year old wonderful young man who’s undecided on life but a hard worker. We have a tenant in the basement of a townhouse to help with a mortgage overseas. After watching this video, either my son or I is moving out in a new property and continue house hacking. I want my son to be financially independent by time he’s 30 like you. Be blessed.

Some people need to stop focusing on how fortunately she started out, or how "well" she married. First off she is someone who genuienly appreciates life, and is making the simplest out of it instead of being spoiled. This video does not teach you how to get to where she is, but simply sharing her journey and how she took on her blessing or tackled her struggles. Sure she is a very, very lucky woman but if you were given the same, would you be humble and grateful like her or be all bling bling and cha ching? It takes the person for this lifestyle, not the circumstances

The super judgemental people around here - you don’t have to be so rude to people you don’t know... if you don’t like someone’s content, you can simply unsubscribe and ride your way out on your high moral horse. If her husband had supported her at any point, there is nothing wrong with that. As a family we are meant to support each other while we are building something together. Also, support is not always monetary. A man or a woman taking care of home or children, while their spouse is working - is also a part of “support” in the relationship. Ultimately, it’s for the couple to decide what their dynamic is, and not yours or mine.

This is a really helpful video, I think you make a good point about common advice being to save and invest, without the specificity to know what that looks like in a practical sense. It's clear that you've worked really hard (and smart) to get to this point so kudos to you! I agree… There are plenty of couples with two incomes and that doesn’t mean they are living in a manner similar to this. Sometimes two incomes actually causes some to increase debt or feel they need to. I appreciate her sharing things she did not have to share, to help enlighten some of us that there are many definitions and roads to “success”.
