Amazing video. Didn't feel like you needed a physics degree to understand the movement. Felt very natural, almost like talking to someone in real life at the gym about their routine. Also, I relate to having the strength and not the technique. When I was trying the muscle up, I thought I was too weak, but I was just pulling at the wrong angle. Went from being able to barely do one sloppy one to doing 4 in a row with good form in one day after a random guy at the gym told me I was doing it wrong.

Hey Colin! Great video, happy to see you posting again :) The majority of Human Flags on KZread seem to be done holding 2 parallel bars - but the majority of your ones in this video are done holding both hands on the same vertical bar. Could you confirm which one of those is best? I am building my own calisthenics gym so not sure which option I should build.

Technique is definitely the most important part for this skill, if you are already decently strong in bodyweight exercises and solid base you can probably get the human flag almost immediately, it's actually much easier than you think.

I basically built the foundational core strength by doing easier flag variations; mainly the Clutch Flag and the X-Flag. Another thing that helped me was doing heavy weighted pull-ups and monkey press. These were just a couple of things that helped me get it. I was able to get it within 6 months.

00:00 🇺🇸 To learn the Human Flag, focus on building general strength, pushing, pulling, and core strength. 00:28 💪 Core strength is essential for the Human Flag; practice exercises like side planks and variations to build a strong core foundation. 00:56 🧘 Incorporate core exercises like hollow body holds, leg raises, and toes to bar to enhance your core strength. 01:10 🚩 Start with 45° Three Flags to work the same muscles needed for the Human Flag; gradually lower the angle as you progress. 01:24 🤸 Train the handstand and one-arm pull-up progressions to develop shoulder strength, which is crucial for the Human Flag. 02:04 🙆‍♂ Handstand holds against the wall and one-arm handstand progressions help build the necessary shoulder strength. 03:06 💪 Strengthen your pulling muscles with one-arm pull-up progressions, including dead hangs, scapular shrugs, and active hangs. 04:15 🏋‍♂ Train the actual Human Flag exercise; begin with kicks and negatives, progressively raising the angle as you get more comfortable. 05:12 🔄 Learn the correct technique for the Human Flag, focusing on keeping your arms straight, the grip position, head alignment, and pushing/pulling with effort. 06:36 🏡 The presenter introduces his new apartment and hints at future consistent KZread content.
