How I grew peppers in a backyard garden with insane harvest and what we did to preserve them

The Pepper Growth Timeline: How to successfully grow productive pepper plant
I seed started indoors early January because we live in a winter zone.
Using a seed tray with a dome cover helped with quick germination. The tray does not need to be under a grow light, but needs to be in a warm spot.
I planted 2 seeds per cell to ensure a good germination rate.
Once the seeds have sprouted, the dome is removed. For strong indoor grown seedlings I used a grow light, this prevents them from being tall and lanky.
When they have 4 true leaves, they are potted up and topped off after 1-2 weeks. Removing the top stem and leaves encourages new branches to grow which makes the plant stronger and be more productive.
When early flowers start to appear, I carefully remove them so that the plant can focus on growing.
By the end of May the weather was warm enough and I slowly introduced the plants to the outdoor environment by placing them in a shaded area for 2 days, then late afternoon sun for another 2 days and finally full sun for 2 more days. This process is called hardening which prevents the plant leaves from getting burned by the heat of the sun.
By the first week of June they are transplanted into their final spot.
I grow mainly in containers from 5 gallon and up. 1 plant will do well in a 5-8 gallon container and 10 gallon and up, 2-3 plants can fit.
My soil mix consists of equal parts coir, perlite and compost. During transplant, I added chicken manure granules, gypsum and rock dust for minerals.
Then every month, I fertilize with a handful of chicken manure granules and I water every other day. For pest control, the lady bugs took care of aphids for me and I used traps for flies.
By July, the fruits started developing. Good airflow is a must to help with pollination or plant flowers nearby to attract pollinators.
By August, fruits started to ripen and we had our first harvest of the season.

Your videos remind me of the time I spent as a kid working with my dad, who is a botanist and loved growing all kinds of vegetables in our huge ancestral home's gardens. 90s was such a different time. I miss being with my family.

Your video is a great reminder of the value of patience and perseverance. It takes a lot of time and effort to grow and harvest melons and oranges, but the end result is so worth it. And the fact that you're able to make a living by selling them at the market is even more impressive. Keep up the great work! And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.

When did you start growing your own garden? What were the first few things you planted at the start of your journey? I feel overwhelmed seeing the variety you have but also amazed and inspired by how much knowledge of the garden you must know now and thus wondered how it was like for you when you first started. I don’t have the resources to grow my own garden for now but I want to know as much as possible first before I finally do!

When we started gardening, we had zero knowledge on how to do it. We planted a few seeds and we failed at it. Nothing much grew but we were definitely hooked. So each year we made sure to have a garden even though we moved several times. We grew in balcony garden and even in just window sills. I think it's all about trying and taking notes so each year you get better. Best way to not feel so overwhelmed is to start with a small garden that is manageable and slowly expand when you feel more comfortable to handle more plants. Feeding your plants monthly or a little bit every two weeks will make a difference and avoid overwatering. We feed our plants with a handful of either compost, worm castings or chicken manure granules monthly.

Thank you! I feel mighty encouraged by your story. There is unfortunately not enough sunlight in my apartment at the moment, so I'm going to start small and plant sweet basil first. I recently bought an indoor plant light too, I hope it'll work well enough. I planted clover seeds ages ago and I remember absolutely falling in love at the sight of new shoots sprouting and watching my tiny plant grow. Can't wait to experience that again!

Glad it was helpful! I find that planting peppers in containers saves me a lot of space an they do well growing in it. You can also move them around. For flowering, you can feed your plants with a fertilizer higher in phosphorus to encourage flowering and support fruit production.

In the video youentiined you start your seedlings in n Jan. Saud you see fruit in June, Then showed an ABUNDANT harvest in August. Is your first first harvest actually in July? I am planning to start in April (very cold here in Jan). I plan to remove the early buds this year (last year mistakenly did not do that). At any rate it is quite warm here in June and July can I expect to harvest earlier if I start earlier with the plant focused only on getting bigger greens first. -- Seems that Pepper plants love high temps why start so early, just focus on cold weather crops and leave pepper plants til April even May if they need the summer heat to produce. Last year I started near May. Does starting earlier ensure larger healthier plants and thus more abundance or am I ok to wait until high temps?
