Hi Sharon, love your content! I'm currently teaching myself uxui design through your videos and other resources! I wanted to ask, when did you start applying for Amazon and IBM internship roles? I wanted to know the timeline of when I should start prepping, working on case studies to apply for next summer (2023) internships. Thanks in advance!
@sharonyeunkim
Жыл бұрын
Hi Priscilla :) typically I find that students go for the bigger company names for the final internship before their senior year of college. Here's my guess: -Freshman year: general design learning - Sophomore year: create ONE great UX case study - SUMMER: before Junior year: take that case study^^ and get into a smaller UX internship position (Dove, Nintendo, Colgate, Duracell, etc) - Junior year: can create another case study if you want (optional) during this time take your previous summer ux intern project and your original case study from sophomore year + PREP for intern interviews - SUMMER: before Senior year: obtain that bigger internship at FAANG. Internship recruiting for the following summer usually begins in the fall like October, November, Google opens in January. Turn on email notifications to be notified! Hope this helps :)

@@sharonyeunkim ah thank you so much for this but I already graduated 😭, switching careers atm. I wanted to know generally when do these internships open & close their applications. I’m currently working on my first case study and wanted to know when’s the best time I should apply considering most companies opened their application for summer 2023 internships. Any advice will help, thanks in advance ♥️
Watching almost all your videos I can see that you've done a lottt! and I'm kinda disappointed because I don't I can ever do the same, especially within the small time that I have :(

Thank you for the info! I got accepted into Ux/Ui Springboard in March for the 9month program. I deferred it until June so that I can complete my UX Professional Google Certificate. I'm trying to do it condensed in 3 months instead of 6. I graduated in October 2021 w a 4 year BA in Psychology w a minor in Conflict Resolution studies. Can I ask your opinion on what type of work I should look for as experience during my 9 months w Springboard? For example, Copywriting? Something that would help to push my experience in the way of UX/UI before graduation. Thank you in advance!!!

Hi! Congratulations on taking a bootcamp. I hope you finish with Google well :) To be straightforward- don’t worry about copywriting at all. It’s not that serious when it comes to design as you may think. Instead, I seriously would consider taking graphic design classes as that would help your UI skills tremendously. Think typography, types of fonts, color combinations, typesetting, how to mix type with images, etc. You don’t even need to take a class for graphic design. Just watch a LOT of free KZread videos and practice in your free time (1H/day) and you’ll do great.
What did you use to build your portfolio? Was it Squarespace? Looks great btw :)

Hey Sharon, thank you for such a great video.Do you have any UX/UI books recommendation ? Also, I noticed there is a lot of optional reading material in career track course.Would you recommend skipping it?

@@LifeinTechLane Hey Neha! Personally I read very little design books and focused on more hands on things. However, I wouldn't recommend skipping it as I'm sure it will be beneficial. I would say for niw reading the summary may be useful.

@@sharonyeunkim Thank you.I am new to this area and I hear a lot about case studies.I was wondering if you can briefly explain how to relate to case studies or what should be my thought process like.What are typical take aways and important aspect to be noted. :) probably another video that you can share when convenient
Thanks alot! Found this to be really helpful except your music!
When you mention at 3:16 about having real world experience, could you elaborate a little more on that in relation to companies like Nintendo, Colgate, etc…? Do you mean to say it’s better to base our case studies on subjects that are relevant to these companies, or previous employment experience with these companies? I hope that kind of makes sense, haha, I’m not exactly sure how to word my question here.
@sharonyeunkim
7 ай бұрын
Hey! Yes, the latter- previous experience to those companies. So your first case study do not base it off of a single company instead it should be the most innovative design you can create. Then using that apply to companies like Nintendo, Colgate, “smaller” companies (in comparison to say Google). After you get your first work experience there then you have better shot at the big tech if that’s what you’re going for :)
