HOW I GOT INTO TOP AUSTRALIAN UNI WITH AVERAGE/MEDIOCRE/LOW ish GPA (PhD)!
How I got into a PhD program at ANU with a very sad undergraduate GPA 😅
Hint: GPA ISN'T EVERYTHING!
Although my experience has been within a small research niche (which kinda makes it easier) but I hope this might apply to other fields of study as well!
Ps. I brought out a Fuji X-E3 and tried to vlog with it. With limited shutter speed it's impossible to vlog indoor with out the flickering light. Probably wouldn't be a problem in the U.S. (I don't remember running into this problem in the past).

HI, I'M NUTSINEE.
I'm a final year physics PhD student at The Australian National University. My thesis involves building a squeezed light system at the LIGO Hanford site and developing squeezed light technology for the future generations ground-based gravitational-wave detectors.

@@sonaligarg7912 Hi Sonali. If you don't know which research group you want to join already, start there! Look at departments' websites. Research your potential advisors!

For those who r applying to undergrad, they can’t have a strong letter of recommendation like you, what they should do instead? I don’t think school teachers’ letters work?

A process of applying to undergrad works differently. This video doesn't apply.
I started wondering is there any pure physics lab in japan 🤔. i'm totally agree about avoiding language barrier on PhD, I have some friends who suffered language barrier (or maybe culture as well), even their lab and prof. mainly in English, but the life outside college is not easy, so if you suffer on lab things already then language can make it double orz.

If you’re good with languages, you can graduate with an extra language in your pocket! Yes there are physics labs in Japan. They have a neutrino detector and a gravitational wave detector. Can’t beat that!
Hey I want to apply for a PhD in ANU as well. I am currently doing my MS research in Quantum Optics specifically in photon addition and subtraction. Don't know where to start from

Research experience is more important than GPA I would say. Give ANU GW group a go!
There are some documentaries that call Australian universities as cash cow for international students. The same thing apply to UK universities with exception to Oxbridge.

what was your GPA ? on the video it showed 3.1, 3.1 GPA is like 86%- that is actually quite high?

No that's mediocre. It's a B- equivalent.

It is considered good in my country too. The higher ranks would be very good (over 3.2) and excellent (3.6)
you directly went to PhD after undergrad? I mean without a masters.

@@rakshith4751 If you have a relevant job experience, it's possible to skip masters. In Australia it's totally up to your potential advisor, at least I think that's how it worked out in my case.

RTB MUB For domestic admissions in aus the ATAR is used to determine if you can enter a course. Scholarships are not usually awarded purely on grades in Australia other than exceptional academic performances such as 99+ ATAR. If you look on the University websites you can look what’s available to you. If you are applying for an aus University internationally there will be different systems such as IB, there is info on most uni websites about this.

RTB MUB I guess there will be a conversation from your American whatever to an IB score somehow. ATAR is only for Aus domestic students who complete the SACE, VCE etc... and is more or less a percentile rank against your peers (99 means better than 99% - kinda). I don’t know how IB works, best to email a uni. I had a question I asked ANU through their website and they were helpful enough.
