I'm going to attempt a repair tomorrow pertaining to lines on a damaged screen. People will often parrot that "knowledge is power" and they are wrong. Applied knowledge is power. We do get credits with our co-op utility but I believe at the end of the fiscal year we get paid wholesale for any excess credits. Keep in mind Florida is a conservative State, so don't expect good benefits like Solar or some type of incentive when buying EV or any green system.

    Is the true-up credit paid on a one-to-one basis? Also, between the true-up credit and SREC payouts, is there any real downside to oversizing your solar system in PA?

  • @FrugalRepair

    @FrugalRepair

    6 ай бұрын

    Our true up is in May and it’s for the wholesale rate for each kWh. So not as good as the retail rate. The downside to oversizing your system is that the power company might take away your net metering agreement. They don’t want residential customers putting in solar just to become an electrical generator. If you are making a little extra kWh each year personally I don’t think that’s an issue but if it’s a lot then you might get scrutinized.

    Did I understand that correctly....your house uses about 20,000KWH in a year? Sounds like a lot (I'm using 11,000 in SE Virginia in a 2800SF home). We recently installed a 10.6K solar array on our roof and my area of interest has shifted a bit as I better understand our energy usage. The annual11,000KWH we used cost about $1500 total. But, looking at my Toyota 4Runner, which gets about 19MPG and I drive about 16K per year....I'm spending about $3400 on gas at $4/gallon. So the savings potential is much greater in offsetting energy usage for the car vs the house. And that's just one car. So, we have an EV on order that will soon replace my 14 year old Toyota and I'm looking forward to an earlier payoff as a result. By the way, I was totally unaware of the SREC credits until i got an email asking me to sign up shortly after the install this past April. Bonus!

    i would research rly deeply for wind turbines. Most of the turbines are not rly worth it for the amount of energy the generate (price / perfomance ratio) . Takes too long to pay them off, and they also need maintenance, so it adds up to your return to push it further down. Its more for rly tryhard ppl who wanna go 100% offgrid.

    SREC have a sunset. You cannot sell them for Life they're only available for a few years. It would be better if you included in your calculations the cost of acquisition and installation. We currently pay 32 cents/kWh for electricity and if we had solar, could only get 4 cents per KWH from Pacific Gas and Electric, the corrupt, price gouging, monopolist, cartel that is the overlord of electricity in Northern California. The PG&E mafia has pushed a rate hike of 13 cents/KWH through, so our electricity will soon be the most expensive in the country. Given high interest rates, we can’t finance solar right now.
