    I ended up getting the Neocolors after seeing this video haha. I don't have very soft pencils and really did not want to buy Prismacolors. This way I can use pencils on a background even when they aren't the "great for large zones" kind and it doesn't take forever.

    Thanks dear Sue! Maybe you can choose not very precious page and start experimenting with background on it? LOL half of my mix media backgrounds had to look totally different when I planned and started them...but in the process something went wrong and I started to experiment and to invent combinations of mediums.

    I was having so much trouble with this paper with waterbased mediums: even though it's thicker than createspace paper, it's just so dry and sucks up the water like crazy so the pigment hardly moves at all. I haven't tried Neocolors yet so I think I'll try it out. Thanks. (Also, I really appreciate the added explanation text bubbles.)

  • @ColoringwithAlena

    Suzy you can try to use the same method of covering stains with regular pencils on top of background of watercolors or Inktense. I use it quite often, I just have to test and to find which pencils work the best on which paper... sometimes it's Polycromos and sometimes it's my watercolor Mondelus pencils, but any pencil's layer really helps to mask stains from not very successful watermedium background. And I would also advise to use in Creative Haven magazines gouache and acrylic paints. I used both (videos are on the channel) and they work on this paper much better then watercolors or other waterbased mediums.

    @@ColoringwithAlena Thank you so so very much for this detailed explanation. I'm the most familiar with water mediums and had only used pencils to either sketch or enhance paintings so the transition to pencils as a main medium in coloring books was a challenge. I love your channel because you adapt water mediums to books in various ways and it's very helpful. Once again, thank you.

    Alena when you iron a page to get it flat do you iron directly onto the paper or cover the page with a white cotton cloth and then iron the page❤️❤️

  • @ColoringwithAlena

    @ColoringwithAlena

    5 жыл бұрын

    Robyn if paper is one-sided, I simply iron it directly from the back side with medium temperature. If book is double-sided, I put a clear sheet of regular office paper on top of my picture and iron. So I iron not through cloth but through 80 gsm office paper. Remember to iron in brief movements: You move your iron upon page one time - then let paper cool for a minute, then repeat another time. In this way you won't burn paper.

    Hello! Do you use a pencil sharpener for your neocolors to be able to do small details?

  • @ColoringwithAlena

    @ColoringwithAlena

    5 жыл бұрын

    No I don't like to sharpen Neocolors and to waste part of the pigment in this way. I prefer to use them mostly for backgrounds not for details, and if I need to color details I always can find a suitable edge of crayon or to take pigment with wet brush. When I color big areas I try to rotate crayon in order to maintain not very blunt tip.
