Thanks for this video Elena. It is very helpful 😊 I already have a few neocolor 2, they are so great 😍 I wish they weren't so expensive.

My favorites out of my 39 open stock are Indigo Blue, Aubergine, Periwinkle, And the metallic Gold. I love being able to add accents of gold sparkle. It even stays after wetting it, which most metallic water soluble mediums aren't. I started with open stock to see if I would like them. I was introduced to water soluble wax crayons with Jane Davenport Aquapastels, and while generally I liked them, I wanted more variety of colors. I started to buy my Neocolor 2 open stock and while a few are from sets of 40 and below I figured if I collected only from the 84 set I could buy the 40 set and have most if not all the colors. I had a choice at Christmas to buy the Neocolor 2 40 set or the Lyra Aquarelle (Aquacolor) set of 48. My head kept telling me that Neocolor was only what I wanted, but for about $10 less than the Neocolor I went with the Lyra. I don't regret my choice as both seem to be great quality. Perhaps one day I will own all 84 Neocolor, but I am happy with the ones I have.

Hello Alena, I now have a full set of Neocolor II crayons that I have collected over time when they were on sale. I will have to say that I have not used them all and that I found this tutorial very helpful, especially for those not wanting the whole set. I look forward to using them more for backgrounds.

Donna I think that you need to give them a try, they are very easy to use. Just find brush of medium softness and try them on small picture. They are so vibrant that you will enjoy to play with them

The 40 set is always a better value on Amazon US. At the moment the 30 set is 51 dollars and the 40 set is 55 dollars. Also if you get the special Autumn set which is usually less than 20 dollars, it adds 10 colors that aren't already in the 40 set. For the full set syndrome people the Autumn set includes some beautiful muted colors and 3 special colors not included in the 84 full set. Those 3 colors are Raw Sienna, Chestnut Brown, and Black Olive.

I found that for me they are the easiest way to do backgrounds, so if you like to do backgrounds on your pictures, I think you will love these crayons

They are so helpful for the backgrounds. I love how well they dissolve, comparing to many other crayons I have tried

I got the 40 and it feels like enough. I knew that I didn't need the 84 and figured that if something was missing from the 40, it would only be a few colours I could add on open stock. So far, I haven't needed to add anything (though a few might join my collection eventually when I need to spend a certain amount to get free shipping and only need to add a few more euros worth of stuff to get there). You definitely don't need them all. Full set syndrome is just too expensive.

Don’t forget to clean the protective wax off your Neos!! Lovely selection of colors there 🤗 thanks for sharing 🥰 XoFaith

I started to clean my crayons but then I discovered that this protective layer doesn't bother me during coloring... so I was lazy and didn't finish it ))

Robyn Broderick easiest way to clean off the protective wax is with baby wipes. Take a crayon and twist the tips clean and don’t forget to clean the 🖍 butt too if you use both ends. 🤗💕 SN: it’s hard to see the wax on pale colors so you make need to do a handful of darker colors first and get the hang of it. 👌🏾

I wish they would sell 'half pastels' like they do with soft pastels..

I have 4 from your favorites: sahara yellow, apricot, salmon pink, lime green very pretty soft colors. I hope maybe they make more pastel colors in future in Neocolors II. And 3 planning to buy soon : prussian blue, sky blue and moss green and some other colors. Is periwinkle blue sold open stock online? Anyone know? I do not see it at JacksonsArt. Is there a YT video of the discontinued 120 set? Or a colors list of it? Great video thanks.

Not familiar with this medium. Why do you prefer it to watercolor pencils or Derwent Inktense?

Well I believe that they are easier and quicker to use for backgrounds. I love their colors more than Inktense because they have many soft pastel colors. They are also not very demanding to the paper quality - I used them on the paper where watercolors bleeded through, and it's possible to dissolve them without visible strokes which is very hard to do with watercolor pencils. And they are very quick to use

How do you sharpen them?

I don't sharpen them at all, I rotate them when I color big background areas to have sharper sides

I’m in doubt... The set of 30 is on sale, it’s only 2 euros more than 20 individual crayons. But most of your favourite colours or not in the set. What to do?

Look at the color selection and think 'Do I like majority of these colors? Do I want my backgrounds to be in these colors? Do I know what I can color with this selection of colors? Are there in the set nice color combos of 2-3 crayons which I can use together?'

And if yes, if you like colors in 30 set - then purchase... Color choices are difficult and individual, and many people may not agree with the colors I named as my favorites

Thank you so much for helping me! I decided to go for the set of 30. As you say, it’s a good selection of light and dark. I’m new to this, so it will give me the chance to experiment. Then afterwards I can add colours from your list, I’ve written them down because I really do like them too.

I really really wish that KZreadrs would show how these can be used practically because everyone knows how to swatch. No offense but it just isn’t helpful when 40 others have done the same thing. Thank you anyways
