I really like when you bring Amy along in the videos and she adds that thing that brings the video together. She was asking really great questions and helped rein you in a time or two. Great job on this one Vin!

as someone who lives in the midwest, i would add its completely necessary to check the underbody of the car as well despite how clean the exterior looks up top

Wrong or not, I won’t even bother looking at cars from the midwest or northeast.
I've been a vehicle appraiser and adjuster for 10+ years and Vin's exterior inspection advice is spot on. Body shops paint will always look nicer than OEM. OEM paint process is with the body/unibody on a rotisserie painted by a robot. OEM paint will almost always have some level of orange-peel. Body shops will usually sand/polish their work so it's super shiny to impress customers. Look for paint that is way nicer than the rest - this is often the sign of a repair, albeit a good one.
The Mrs in the background when Vin said he missed out on top cars. She was like few 😅
I've adopted the habit of doing a Google image search now. Sometimes it shows pictures were used before in say another add or app. That may be a good sign of a scam. Video calling is also a good follow up when a deal seems too good to be true.
@AndrewDRoyappa
Ай бұрын
Good idea. Similarly, just googling the VIN (no pun intended LOL) will instantly show in Google images if the car has been at a salvage auction. Great way to see what the previous damage was if it's been fixed
Big brain move to have people send you cool cars they're thinking about buying. Vins about to get all the deals now 😂
Great video Vin. One thing to point out for CA buyers. The seller MUST smog it within 90 days before transfer. And as a seller, you want to do that to protect yourself. Otherwise the buyer can go get it fixed however they want and you will be on the hook for it.
Amy in the back when you said you missed 2 cars you really want 😂

This is a solid video, and it goes for a lot more than just cars. I tell my wife all the time that it's about the hunt, sometimes you just gotta find deals. The number one thing is being able to walk away from a sale. Too many people get fired up and try to buy the first thing that comes their way. Something else that would be worth touching on is not falling to any pressure from a seller. If you've expressed interest in a car, sometimes the seller will try to persuade/pressure you in to rushing through the selling process, either to hide issues with the car, or try and squeeze more money out of you with phantom buyers expressing interest as well. It's worth checking how long the ad has been up, if they've sat on it for a few months, chances are they don't have 5 other people lined up to buy. My last bit of advice is playing your cards close to the vest. If you haggle with someone and they drop the price of whatever they're selling, maybe don't show up in a grandpa gold Ferrari. In my case our '99 Ford Ranger does the job.

Buy good niche cars! Also, take care of them in particular the aesthetics like paint. Bought an rsx-s in 2007 for $10k and 45k miles. Drove it for 4 years and added 50k miles. Sold it for $9.5k. Got an s2000 right after for $6k and 100k miles. Now worth at least $18k. Got an ISF 90k miles for $22k. Now worth around $27k.

@@PigeonLaughter01 cars are never a good investment. Even classic Ferraris and the like. In the long run, you're better off investing in the stock market, real estate, etc. The point being made is to at least break even and not lose too much in depreciation after you drive and keep them for a few months/years. At times, you can even make a little more than you paid and then jump into something more expensive and niche. My next car for example will probably be a Lotus Elise. The Elise will barely if at all depreciate no matter how much I drive it.

A my Thursday Xmas 😆. Love Vin how you shared what you use for looking for cars, thanks man!! I used most of the sites before using autotempest and autotempest is great at pulling prices from different regions and doing the comparisons for you, great tool. May I suggest to the community, talking to people, especially if you’ve noticed a car sitting. I found my 2001 Avalanche sitting in someone’s driveway for sale by the original owner family. Grandpa passed so grandson selling. But it was legit! Only 133k!!! Just in case folks don’t know, PPI means pre-purchase inspection. Bought my last 2 Lexus this way cuz they were from Palm Springs and Flagstaff.
Thanks for giving the car community all the tips!

Good tips, ven great show
This video was super helpful and I'm sure I'll be watching it again several times. Thank you! My family is probably going to need a second car within the next year and most new cars aren't doing it for me so that leaves me with looking at used but I'm apprehensive about what I'll end up with mostly because I don't trust people to be honest. I've heard that it's not impossible to roll back modern cars' mileage. Somebody said to me to check the brake and gas pedals since people rarely check or change them. Like the odometer may say 30K but the pedals look like they got 100K on them. Have you heard of this, dude?

Great detailed. Idea man thanks!
Super educational video. The only thing that I would add is that IF you are buying a new make/model that you aren't familiar with, I always recommend doing a basic web search for things to look out for. Often times you will find specific years or engine options to avoid. Some times there are unique maintenance nuances that you would never know about unless you were super familiar with the platform. Just a thought...
Hey Vin, I know from my own experience, people will blot out their plates for personal security reasons. Running a plate is FIA and readily available with the person's address etc. It's important to read the vehicle description and when contacting the seller, if you can gain the vehicle vin#. You can run, for free, a vehicle history, or for a small fee, a really detailed history on the vehicle. A tool I use when car shopping.
Also really good content - I really like your Chanel and the way you present the info
Can we get a plant tour video though? 😂 I saw the Open Space vid but we need a plant tour vid lmaoo
Solid Advice Vin, I unfortunately have an addiction for totaled cars and usually wind up spending near the same amount to repair the car, as it would have cost to just buy a clean title car. But if you enjoy it as a hobby, you can't put a price on the satisfaction of the build. Either way that was very thorough and great pointers!

That look your queen gave the camera when you mentioned the two 'deals' on bring a trailer you just missed out on - I know that look. Loving being here from day 1 and watching your channel evolve.
Vin always more knowledgeable than I remember
Would love to see a pt.2 of this on how to be a good seller as well. Hunting and buying a car is as fun as stressful, but selling has always been my worst enemy and honestly has kept me from buying a few times.

The house, the cars. Damn dude you’re living my dream 😂
Love the videos, and the part about not wasting a sellers time was a part that needs discussed more, you should do a vid on how to properly sell a car, im sure its in the pipe, but more people need to know
Sick thanks dude
I’d justify form or function because it’s the first thing you see. Like first impressions. But note, just because the car made it out to you doesn’t mean it’s mechanically sound or that repairs will be minor.
Thanks great content
Great info!
