Mid Night Club Still Exists: Exclusive Look Inside Auto Garage TBK
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This one has been a long time coming. Auto Garage TBK is a famous name in the history of the Mid Night club, legendary even, and I was just waiting for the right moment to head down to their shop in Yokohama to indulge in their history.
I take a look at the shop, the history, the memorabilia and talk to Takahashi-san about what being a member of the Mid Night club was all about and how the design of his unmistakable front bumpers came to be. The best part was taking a close look at his 930 Turbo demo car slash wangan warrior, as well as a special 964 that has just been completed.

What happened as soon as I saw it xD
Perfect example of the Japanese people is when you stand in the middle of the road to film an intro and the driver just stops and waits for you. No horn honking,no revving,no finger flying,no yelling, just sitting patiently. I love Japan

Omg I was just gonna comment this. I do this too in America, and I back up when people are crossing at a red light and people around me look at me like I'm crazy 😂

I have two guesses: 1) Fella knew who Dino was (nearly 100K subs, OG in the scene, known associate of Larry Chen - not that implausible) 2) Fella had no idea WTF was going on and was too confused to be mad. Not every day you get people filming pieces to camera in the middle of the street lol

I have Mad RESPECT for the Mid Night Club Members.
Dino + Mid Night. = stop what you’re doing and watch. ❤
What’s truly amazing isn't the top speed, but the soul in every picture from back then. I’m indifferent to Bugatti, but the stories of the Mid Night club, the tuner shops, and their craftsmanship are captivating. That unique "black magic" is gone now; those guys were like explorers, while today everything is about efficiency.
1:05 There's a Tvr Griffith just sat in a garage as he walks past and he didn't even notice it :)

Oh I noticed it… left it in there for you guys to notice it 😉
that van was polite
1:38 Dino, I bet that van driver wishes his vehicle was louder at that moment, huh? lol. Very patient people over in Japan! Love it. Here for the beard.
I have the first, new, tbk hood in the states for the bnr32! I met Takahashi san last year and he was so kind and welcoming. My favorite shop in the world by far!

Awesome guy indeed!
Having this level of access to OG workshops and people is such a privilege.
Takahasi san is the spirit of real car culture
The polite Japanese driver in the van patiently waiting during the intro while Dino is standing in the middle of road in the US minimum honking swearing hand gestures possibly just run over lol vs Japan van just waits quietly through entire intro

Auto Garage TBK and Mid Night Club is responsible for a majority of the love people have for JDM cars/culture. There's so much soul and character that can't be replicated anymore. That just adds more to their legendary status. To this day, anything that has their names in it that comes up, I'll watch/read it all. Thanks for the video, Dino!
Hopefully we will soon see the Yoshida special 930 in one of your videos....
Just felt like Sharing, I was watching this since I'm a big fan of the midnight club and JDM cars in general, as I was watching I got the call from the truck driver bringing me my JDM Mitsu Colt Ralliart Ver R, he said he was 15 mins out, I jumped in my car and took delivery came back and kept watching this. (I'm in Canada BTW) Also thanks Dino for showing us in great details the more closed knit JDM Car culture aspects

It's not just a legend, it's real and still active. Amazing to see these stories come to surface and be documented.
I had no idea Promodet was also affiliated with Mid Night like that, that is crazy
What a sound what a SOUND in that Air cooled monster !!
I think it's amazing how well researched it is. I'd like to see the history of street drag in Japan next. Most Porsche tuners were also private L-type tuners in the past.
This video is an amazing showcase of what in essence the foundation of today's car culture was. Very cool!
I like long race/drive because my parents love to travel. The longest drive that I've experienced is about 12 hours. As I grew up I watch endurance race. From Daytona to Le Mans. At the same time I wonder, can a sport cars maintaining maximum top speed for extended period of time? And I introduced to Midnight Club. I never wanted to own a 911 or a R32 so bad ever in my life. They really spark my interest on cars even more and I'm still that kid till this day.
What an absolute legend, thank you for the opportunity to see inside this history.
Fantastic work. Thank you for covering this in such a thorough and respectful way instead of being all sensationalist and "KZreadr" about it. I wish more car channels were this classy! I've been a fan for many years Dino, since seeing your stuff on Speedhunters back in like 2009 or something. Thank you for your hard work!

Excellent. Thank you for documenting all these historied shops and the '90s Japanese car culture in general!
Thank you Dino for getting us a view into this place. Very cool.
Wow! An amazing shop I didn’t know, until now, that I always wanted to see and know more about. Thank you Dino
Glad to see content on the history of the midnight club and their relevancy to car culture and where they’re going in the present and future. Also love seeing shops like this in neighborhoods with residential above. It’s my dream to have a place like this. Reminds me of going to Yokohama to visit Obata San of Refresh60 and scouring the neighborhood to find him. Remember him seeing me and stop working and put out chairs and drinks and talk about car culture in Japan and states. Remember the second visit he saw me and said Ha took the train again. Miss those interactions
Wonderful production Dino! I think a lot of us have been eager for this type of exploration of Mid Night.

man i'd actually buy a translated version of that 40th anniversary booklet, insane piece
thanks for your coverage, i knew they still existed because of all of my japanese friends i talk to. but its still informative. fixed my speedhunters hat recently, worn it so much the label was falling off.
Wonderful story and video
It's amazing that these guys were doing this out of passion back in the 90's. After 40 years I bet they didn't know that what they accomplished is legendary outside Japan.
I remember years ago there were lots of videos about Mid Night popping up and I had a bit of an (unhealthy) obsession remaking every car I could find on my games as accurately and as detailed as possible. Even some of the ones shown in here like the Samstag Abend RX7 or the pink R33, to more obscure ones I’ve seen like a 5 series BMW, Advan NSX, and I believe there was a Pontiac Trans Am as well. I just love seeing people put so much time and effort into every aspect of something they like; such as cars in this case. If I somehow ever get a 1990 Porsche Carrera 4 or a new 992 GT3 Touring; I will 100% be trying to contact these guys for a kit or tune, or my own homage of some sort. Edit: My personal favorite is the Z32 at 11:14 or the light blue Porsche 911 shown at 11:39 (that exact picture was my Lock Screen background for years until I changed it).
Documenting history - more than just content - nice!
