Thank you that will be one of our upcoming KZread videos. ✌️
There are plenty that will criticise, but I think this looks really well done. Good attention to detail and pride in your work. Not a bad pace of work either with no nail gun for a lot of it. Your neighbour seems great. A few tips: use a sharp pencil over a sharpie; a good laser level will make everything a lot easier and quicker; perhaps leave more room between the windows and the framing next time - when the building moves and settles over time this gives more leeway without the windows being in danger of cracking. All the best from a UK chippy 🔨
@KevinNguyen-zn4vv

People like to hammer the window frames all the way in when they're not supposed to in order to allow for flex. You can leave a 1/4 inch gap for stud nails and it wouldn't compromise the integrity of the scaffolding. The nails are grooved. People just like to hammer it all the way in. Taking it apart is a PIA.

For the windows (casing), you’re not supposed to seal the bottom for drainage purposes.. just the top and sides. 🙂

After putting it all together, my neighbor told me that I needed to leave little holes at the bottom for draining but I think we might be OK just because the overhang is so big. Next time I’ll definitely do this. thanks for the tip. ❤️
You made that look so easy. Next time can you put a Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 etc. It was interesting to see how quickly you did this, thank goodness for helpful neighbors and wiling wives!

@@CatsPajamas23Indeed HGTV did this to me with our foreclosure they cut out so much time from those renovations that I often felt defeated and wanted to give up. Granted I hand beveled all my shower doorway tiles myself with an old belt sander cause I did not want the added grout lines with the added two inch wide bullnose. Now 14 years later I want a bigger tile cutter for large tiles with smaller grout lines and a different type of tile. But nope..no time nor money at the moment.

Wow. It's so cool seeing the timelapse of the build. Great job! It's beautiful. (I was thinking that if you're not immediately going to move it, you should lift the completed floor, pour a concrete slab the size of the perimeter and let it dry, set the floor on and finish the house. It will deter dampness and bugs and other critters. (Of course you can do that after it's finished but it will be a lot heavier. It also gives you the advantage of stability without it being set in the concrete so that you can move it. ))

Without water it is a storage shed, not a house.
I know NOTHING of this type of work and don’t have the skill. However, this was educational and fun to watch nothing turn into something. I have a lot more respect for house builders and construction workers. Keep you the great content and work. Can’t wait to watch part 2. God Bless! ✝️🇺🇸
For the window flashing, the lower corners are a common source of leaks leading to rot. There are various solutions, and one of them might have been a good idea. But your installation method is a common one too, so it's really a question of how thorough one wants to get. Extra water protection takes extra time and money, and there are so many possible things that one could do.
@brent...

I think it’s better to angle the sill, have a back dam, and let the bottom drain to the outside. That lets any water that eventually gets in to easily drain away. www1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/publications/pdfs/building_america/window_flashing.pdf

That is really helpful to know how to build a small house. Only if you guys put a cement on the bottom of the house, that will be super great!!
What a nice neighbor you have! You guys did a great job.
This looks great! I really like the way you added the stained wood to the corner. Really sets it all off. Good job!
This is extremely inspiring for me and this can change a lot of lives. Thank you for this great video.
Because I have experienced critters (squirrels, rodents, etc.) chewing through the insulation from under, (costly aggravation); I will in the future cover any raised structure with PT plywood under the bottom and fully insulate the floor with R15 in the floor itself before nailing on the top floor ply, to avoid any damage that would now be impossible to reach otherwise. Also anchor those footers, mine have shifted.
I’m trying to find a place to live in about 2 years and this looks like a great place to hole up in.
Great job on the exterior! I've built and taught others how to build many houses with Habitat for Humanity. You sir, have it down. Framing, windows and doors are my favorite parts. With the exception of the 1/2 inch off the door frame, you did an awesome job. Well done on the roof too. All of it, I would love to work with you on a build. I want to build my own soon and could use someone like you, your wife and Tom to help. Looking forward to the interior!🏡💖

Absolutely love this! I think you should have left the trim in white! The trim on the house and the trim at the windows up top would have been great white! I love the wood accents on the corner! It definitely gives it some style. Large windows and French doors are going to give such great light. Some large skylights would have been amazing!!! Very curious how you pull this all together. If someone wants to live in my shed, I'll let them but its still a shed, its not magically a house all of a sudden lol. If someone tried to live in my shed, I'm gonna tell them to go find somewhere else to poop cause you aren't pooping in my home, you chose to live in a shed lol. If anything, you could call it a studio once the inside is built out, but its still a shed in my book.
