How I Built a Nintendo Switch for Less than $300!
Ғылым және технология
Build a Nintendo Switch from parts from other Switches! I wanted to get my nephew a Switch for his birthday but prices have gotten crazy! This is how I did it & how it can be done more reliably than to buy each individual piece! www.ifixit.com/EricaGriffin $10 off your $50 fix! Thank you iFixit for making this video possible!
Note* I forgot to add the ebay tax.
But the cost breakdown is this:
$160 for 1st tablet
$174 for 2nd.
- $150 for frankenswitch I sold
= $184 for the tablet. Add $90 if you need Joy-cons.

Having a niece or nephew is a very special type of love. It's such an amazing experience when your sibling (someone you've known for the majority of your life) has a child, an just sucks up all the love you have for your sibling but with none of the negatives, like fighting or jealousy, the whole sibling rivalry. The day I met my niece was a day I will never forget, so I totally understand her desire to do something so nice for her nephew.
If I were your relative and you made me a switch I’d literally cherish you forever cus you put so much work into this! I hope your nephew loved it!

Hey Erica! I just wanted to say, if they don't boot, and don't have water damage. You're able to flash the OS, since it boots into the switches RCM mode. From there you can go explore the NAND, and flash certain things which may help you recover it!

I did something similar like this jan 2019 because I wanted a switch for smash but wasnt willing to pay $300. If I recall I spend about $100 to repair a broken tablet, $68 for the broken tablet on ebay, and about $30 in replacement parts. And that wasnt even by waiting for good offers, just buying what was available at the time. Makes me realize how insane switch prices are right now.
Watching this makes me appreciate all the tech that goes pre-assembled for $299.

I couldn't afford to buy a new Switch (even before the corona virus hit) so I monitored eBay for a few days and found one with a description stating that the touch screen jumped around on its own and the screen had some cracks/discoloration. The images provided showed it playing games and working fine but you could tell the screen was damaged. I immediately knew it had a damaged digitizer and LCD. It was an auction item, not buy it now, so I waited around until the auction was almost closed and placed my bid. Ended up winning it for $80 and only spent $27 dollars on repairs. Now I'm addicted to BOTW (I know that game is old now but I love it.) Anyways, videos like yours are what motivated me to attempt fixing something like that. I have no experience at all with electronic repair but I've always been fascinated by it. So thank you for helping me get over my fears! I hope to learn how to solder next to take on trickier repairs.

@EricaGriffin
4 жыл бұрын
Realistically, a clean room or vacuum clean box is needed to keep dust away. In factories they have such things. I’ve done lots of screen swaps and things and the dust is impossible to get rid of. There is always a spec or two even with compressed air. Dust sticks like glue (static I’m assuming) and has to be brushed off... which introduces more dust lol. I wanted this switch to be as nice as one out fo the factory.
Erica you are an absolute genius !

I got a switch from a friend and it was in awful condition. Very scratched with deep gouges on the screen. For the scratches I just applied a dbrand skin and it looks awesome. For the display, I first tried wet sanding and polishing to reduce the scratches, then to apply a screen protector. Unfortunately I burned through the oleophobic coating in one spot. I didn't think about trying to apply a new coating at the time. Instead I ordered a replacement digitizer, but it didn't work. It would go all crazy when touched near the center. I returned it and bought another digitizer that was listed as genuine original and thankfully it worked. I got a switch that feels brand new for a good price during the scalp-pocalypse of last year
