    For my money, I'd go for a PS Vita and go through the relatively straightforward process of installing a custom firmware. It's a powerful little machine with a gorgeous screen, and handles the majority of emulators like a champ, plus the build quality is lightyears ahead of stuff like this. You can pick them up second hand for a fraction of the price too. Only real downside is the proprietary memory, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better machine to scratch that retro itch...

    proprietary memory killed the PS Vita imo. too bad. I've only owned a PSP which broke years ago and was looking maybe to buy a PS Vita because of the CFW capabilities basicly making it a better PSP + a whole lot more. But these memory cards are still very expensive for the amount of storage you get. Such a strange decision to make the memory proprietary in the first place.

  • @exion101

    @exion101

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@inviqt4011 I'm certain they only made the vita use propriety tech to curtail piracy and cfw (which had obviously ravaged the psp), which made sense from a business perspective, but was otherwise hugely anti consumer friendly and has made the console's afterlife (beyond Sony's lacklustre support) a more frustrating endeavour... But with that said, you can get adaptors to use standard SD cards for practically nothing, so don't be discouraged!

    the raspberry pi can run Minecraft on retropie. i can't find a good tutorial so ill tell you: 1: go into retropie, then enter retropie setup. 2: Make sure the setup script is up to date 3: go into manage packages and then experimental packages. 4: scroll down until you see Minecraft. 5: install from binary (there might be an install from source but prob not) 6: wait until it finishes 7: Reboot your pi. 8: there will be a new option for emulators (forgot what it is called but the controller icon should be the wasd keys) 9: open it and play Minecraft (pi edition and you need to use a keyboard and mouse)

    I think that this is a really cool product/kickstarter. Obviously there are all the issues that were explained in this video, and probably more, but I'd say that given the foundation they've already built with the emulator itself, they mostly just need to work on the buttons, case, etc. and then add some more "high end" features and this will be an incredible product. Once they fix the physical stability and ease of use a little bit I think I will definitely be interested in buying this.

The DS will not run PSX pr N64 games, but the cool thing about the PSP is that it has a native PSX emulator that will run most of those games just fine. Would be interesting to watch, and likely have the files put online for anyone to use if they have a laser-cutter/printer... something all of us do, ofc :p But yeah, there are tons of stuff I would love to see how they are done in a portable gaming device, such as the 3ds joystick that is a _great_ portable alternative to a huge actual stick (and actually is kinder on the thumb), while remaining far superior to d-pads. Or how to make triggers that are perfectly customizeable in terms of stiffness and actuation distance. Or good haptic-feedback that isn't just a badly balanced motor inducing vibration (though I suppose all touch-surface manufacturers want to know this one too, would be nice for anything from gaming on smartphones to laptop trackpads). The design could even include interesting and esoteric control-options like quality-trackballs (the ones I have seen on wireless keyboards+mouse options suck), trackpads (similar to the steam controller), scroll-wheels, the 3d-press-touch that were on some smartphones, and so on.

    Honestly I'd recommend just getting a decent phone gamepad where you can slot your phone in between the pads to be kind of like a switch/psp situation. Your phone has better video/audio and with the full 40ish dollars going to the gamepad + bluetooth you actually end up with usable buttons.

    I just pulled out a bluetooth adapter and wireless card and card chassis to the board. I suggest broadcom bluetooth and atheros or realtek supported wireless card. Works fine, easy to get drivers which if you installed Kali Linux, you will get the rest of the answers. Good luck and it was fun to type it here with the device as well. Talk soon but it will be back on my computer which I sold the device for 3x its cost. Still cost a lot to buy though.
