This is too much trouble for such an expensive machine and *super* dangerous. Imagine a baby or pet getting hit by flying shards! The company by now is aware of this because _so many people_ have had this happen and at this point should be *recalled* I’m bummed for you but really appreciate your honest feedback! This item is firmly OFF my list.

I have a Sizzex BIG SHOT SWITCH. On my first machine, I had the plates get jammed up on the front door while in reverse mode. It was my fault, as I let the end of the plate go too far into the machine before hitting the reverse. It pushed up against the wall of the housing and cracked the outer doorframe! Luckily, they honored the warranty and replaced it for me. As for the warping plate issue- I have ironed my plastic plates flat. Just use a board underneath, and a wet towel top and bottom. A wet towel keeps the iron from melting into the plastic. Just press the heck out of it, then place something heavy on it while it cools. I had the magic mat, and finally got rid of it. It flattened out initially, but returned to the same if not worse bubble in the middle. I'm glad you did not get hurt!

Thanks for watching & commenting. I know that plates do eventually wear out and need replaced. But how long they should last is the question! Anyway, very glad you had good warranty experience! And the iron tip is good to keep in mind.

I actually saw the same thing happen several months ago when I was watching a live Crafters Companion show. The woman giving the demo just stood there and watched the piece fly across the room. Every one watching all wondered if we really saw what we thought we did and of course we had. They finished the the project and then got another machine.

Hi Glenda - It's perfectly normal for your plates to warp a bit with regular use, and to have impressions from the metal dies in them - this is due to the intense pressure the Gemini exerts to beautifully cut those intricate dies! These plates will have to be replaced occasionally (the frequency will vary based on use). We recommend you regularly flip and rotate your plates - try to do this after every pass - and be sure you're adjusting the amount & thickness of any additional shims you add based on the weight of the material you're putting through your machine (example: a thin piece of cardstock may require you to add an extra shim whereas a thicker piece of craft metal may not). We do not ever recommend that you bake your plates in the oven, iron them, soften them with a heat gun, or otherwise heat them up in any way. We do not know the impact of this and therefore cannot endorse this method as a company. If you have questions regarding your plates, please do not hesitate to reach out to our customer service team

Thanks for the guidance. My plates bowed from the very first use, following all instructions exactly. I consider this purchase my most expensive disappointment. Instead, Gina K has the Intri-Cut coming back into stock soon. Though it is manual, it appears to have bicycle gearing (good for my joints in manual use) and highly adjustable pressure, so I hope that will be my solution. At this point, with my Gemini II, I would need to spend 2:1 hours of un-warping my plates to hours using them. Very disappointing. Usable, but barely. Following all instructions exactly.

My machine is working for now so I will just keep living with it. Good luck to you and your decision!

I was bought the smaller gemini in the rose gold by my kids at christmas. Its very pretty but I don't enjoy using it because of the high pressure and constantly messing with sandwiches. Its wrecked some of my favourite thin dies that ive been using every christmas for 16 years. I did find that the gemini cutting plates for double sided dies seem more durable but only found out about them after lots of issues. I've gone back to my cuttlebug which has only needed one new set of plates in all this time!

I’ve had a Gemini Jr. for years, with little warping. But I religiously follow the old guidelines on an old Crafters Companion youtube video. 1) Flip AND turn the top and bottom plate with every pass. 2) When using medium/small/long narrow dies, don’t keep plopping them right in the middle (a hard habit for me to break). Spread the die love around and put little dies in different places. I use the sandwich in the manual for regular dies. If a little bowing does happen, I run the plates through without dies. And consider using the double-sided plates (for double sided dies). Lots of people like them.

I am now using Crafters Companion double sided cutting shims between the white plates for die cutting. The same thing happened to my Switch machine. I was reversing the plates and it just exploded. My plates weren’t really warped. It seemed like something dropped down and blocked the plates from reversing and the pressure was too much. Sizzix did send me a new machine. As far as the Gemini is concerned, I would absolutely try to enforce the warranty. Their sandwich should work. I switched from the original Gemini to the Switch. Before I switched, however, I found a sandwich that was golden. I used a Gemini jr cutting plate, a magic mat and a Sizzix plate. I sent the plates in the wide way. No warping at all.

Hi Misty, We’re so sorry to see that you’ve had these issues with your Gemini II machine! We wanted to make sure we got in touch directly to make this right and get you crafting again. Firstly, and most importantly - we understand that this has been a difficult situation so we’re happy to send a replacement Gemini II machine to you. Our head of customer service will reach out today via email to arrange that for you. Every Gemini II machine is covered by our comprehensive warranty, for peace of mind. This means that if you do experience an issue or something that doesn’t seem quite right we’d always encourage contacting our friendly, knowledgeable Customer Service team as the very first port of call. The team will work with you closely to resolve any issue! We want everyone to have the best experience using the Gemini II machine, and will support our community to make that happen. We try to provide some recommended usage tips to avoid issues, and will use your feedback to improve these. The tips which seem to be the most useful have been: We recommend only using Gemini cutting plates which are specially formulated to work with Gemini machines. The only method we recommend to straighten plates is setting them under something heavy, such as the Gemini II machine when it is not in use. We do not recommend boiling plates in hot water or heating them in the oven as this can damage the integrity of the plates. The inner workings of the machine should never be altered as this voids the warranty. We always recommend to flip and rotate plates after each use to prolong their lifespan. The Gemini II has technology to apply higher pressure than many other machines which means that the plates undergo intense pressure, and some bowing and wear & tear is normal. We hope this helps to put your mind at ease, and can’t wait to see what you make with your new Gemini II machine. 💜The Crafter’s Team

I’m so sorry! I can’t read all 221 comments, but I’ve had a Gemini Jr. for years, with little warping. But I religiously follow the old guidelines on an old Crafters Companion youtube video. 1) Flip AND turn the top and bottom plates with every pass. 2) When using medium/small/long narrow dies, don’t keep plopping them right in the middle (a hard habit for me to break). Spread the die love and put the little dies in different places. I use the sandwich in the manual for regular dies. If a little bowing does happen, I run the plates through without dies. And consider using the double-sided plates (for double sided dies). Lots of people like them. NOTE: I don’t have the Gemini II so this may not apply. But flipping, turning and putting dies in different places rather than always in the center is the way to go for the original Geminis, both regular and Junior.

The pressure on these machines is just too much. So glad you and pets or any bystanders did not get hurt. This is dangerous! Also, plates warp naturally in the Big Shot too. You flip and reverse as you mentioned. But they don't cause damage to the machine or injure the users! I don’t have a Gemini machine, but I have a simple question regarding what you were recommended by the manufacturer. I agree that we should rotate the way of putting the sandwich in each time. However, unless you are using the machine on a daily basis, how are you expected to remember which way went in “face up” the last time you used it? Also, because this is such a new machine, it should have been tested with many of the different manufacturers’ dies and come with suggested sandwiches so you didn’t need to do all this experimenting. To me, this is a “No Go” for purchasing a Gemini.

  • @CraftySoupVideo

    @CraftySoupVideo

    3 ай бұрын

The way I know to rotate my plates is to put the curved plate on TOP, make sure the plate bowing curves upwards -- like a rainbow. The pressure of the machine will then smash that "rainbow" back flat. Well, that is the idea anyway. I find once the bow sets into the plate, it is hard to flatten it back out again. I find that the top plate bows WAY more than the bottom plate so it isn't an issue so much for that one. I shared all this to help folks make decisions. Sounds like you know what won't work for you!

These companies make their money by bowing plates. There has to be a material out there that work. I love my Gemini Jr. and am very careful. None of the methods I have tried has stopped me from buying new plates. I am a sucker. What can I say? I used their methods and still had bowing. I have heated, melted, and will keep trying. When my machine gives up, so will I. I am going to open my new plates. I will try yours now. Thank you.

If it was less than a year old, shouldn't it be under warranty? Maybe they would replace it. You should try calling. So sorry this happened to you. I love my Gemini II, I hope this never happens to me! Good luck.🥰

I am a bit confused by the state of your metal shim. It looks as if you've been using it ... well, not the way it's meant to be used. Not in direct contact with cutting dies or the paper to be cut, that is. I once mixed up layers and had the metal shim next layer to my paper, and I thought all hell was loose - luckily, only the metal shim died as a result. When I use my [new! ;-)] metal shim, it will always be between the main platform and the lower plate. I am using a Sizzix Big Shot Switch and a cheapy Action hand-operated small-size machine (DIN A 5). Those plates - remember when we first bought ink jet printers? You could get one for 50 and you would pay plenty for ink sets. It's a bit like that, isn't it? "Plates are meant to be replaced". But plates are not meant to make the whole machine break. You didn't say anything about contacting customer service. What did they have to say to that?

Actually, the instructions for this machine show using the metal shim as a cutting surface. It confused me too, but being new to this particular machine I did test runs using the instructions exactly as instructed. Sure enough it did a number on the metal shim. I'm in the process of being in touch with the company. I'll post an update if anything comes of it. Thanks for watching.

Mostly I just wanted my machine to work. Thanks for watching and letting me know about your good experience with them.

@@CraftySoupVideo the reason they MAY NOT, is because you've posted and stated that your husband REMOVE/BROKE OFF the offending piece of plastic., should they seek out this video. But, there's only 2 answers: Yes or No to either fixing or replacing the item. So, do try you may be surprised.

I use 4 large bull clips (one in each corner) when storing my plates, I have zero warping. DO NOT use those ridiculous magic mats in any system and stop cutting into your metal shims. Magic mats are flexible and DO NOT provide a RIDGED surface required for any system to work properly. Metal shims/any shim goes outside the cutting surface sandwich. You do not put your extra card stock shim under the card stock you are cutting why would you put your metal shim there? Cutting plates are meant to be rotated and they are meant to be replaced at least twice a year, suck it up and move forward.

When my base warped it wouldn't go thru my manual "WRMK evolution" die machine. I realized at that moment, if I had an electric one I would've broken it. There's been several times I thought I'd broken it using the 3D embossing folders. The thickness settings are more of a suggestion & not static or true, depending on whats in use. I use a cheap piece of flexible plexiglass instead of a sizzix shim, when a 3D embossing folder goes thru. The ⅜" silicone mat has never fed through properly. It's a diy set up for people who need a challenge.

Yeah, the Gemini is supposed to stop the motor if it isn't running through right. Did not work out that way in my case. So, it is what it is. I've learned to start off with the slimmest possible sandwich and add shims from there!

I bought it online so returning it would have cost a lot of postage. I knew that "fixing" it ourselves would be a problem for the warranty. Honestly I haven't had good luck with warranties in the past so I wanted to see if we could get the machine working ourselves. Luckily we managed that. I will still contact Crafter's Companion so they know of the problem. Thanks for watching.
