The main reason I am here is I am trying to learn people skills. Or, more precisely, people skills that do not require negative emotions towards myself. I have learned four ways to effectively communicate with the 15 Normal Personalities, three are negative. 1. Extreme Stoicism (this can be unhealthy if you feel suppressed) 2. Tales of Fiction (present a truth as a story of fiction and wait for the other person to see the truth, this can be manipulative) 3. Feigning ignorance (Wulp, Golly Gee!.. I dunno whut the hayul is goin' on coulda youins be splainin this t'me? Self denigration is not healthy) 4. Mutual affection ( I love my wife and she loves me, no analysis needed....ahem!.. no analysis needed!)

‘INTPs don’t kill us, they make us stronger’ That cracked me up. My husband is INTP and sometimes I feel like he’s killing me because his F in general is SO undeveloped! But he certainly makes me stronger. I really heard our relationship described in this video. Thanks. One thing I would warn about INTPs is that INFJ (and I assume other types) can spend YEARS expecting there to be more under the surface than there is. But an INTP really is as simple as he claims to be, and taking him at his word is crucial. For me, there’s always a thousand universes roiling beneath my surface, so it was a big adjustment to live with someone so simple and low maintenance.

Paul and Kilby Austin we can be low maintenance on a personality level because we’re rationals and don’t like drama, but what about intps physically (chores, physical care)? Plus don’t they have complex thoughts? In other words, please elaborate.

@@raysacassanelli500 I think most other types require more attention on a physical and emotional level. But you make a good point that INTPs have a constant stream of complex thoughts and appreciate a lot more engagement intellectually than non-rational types, so in that way maybe they're not 'low maintenance.' Still, my INTP is happy only with intellectual engagement, and doesn't seem to need physical or emotional attention. Unfortunately he doesn't expect *me* to need that sort of attention, which I do. Chores? I guess since he doesn't notice they need doing, that takes extra work on my part. But he himself wouldn't require a particular environment, so if there's maintenance on that score, it's probably my own fault.

Paul and Kilby Austin thank you for te quick reply! I see what your saying and I agree. Did you communicate with your intp? When someone tells me to pay attention to something I will be more than willing to do that. My mother and other friends loved being hugged, but I didn’t care. Their communication and hugs caused me to keep trying and working on it to the point that it became a need for me. I think the weak FE makes anything that needs to be worked on socially more of a big deal when we care. So if stated it will become a main point that is aware for us to work on. At least that’s what I noticed. Side note: do infjs mind doing chores? Also do they like caring for their spouses health if their spouse is particularly weak?

However, do you find that absent-mindedness goes with being an INTP? I do have to communicate my needs clearly to my husband, but he seems to forget very quickly between each communication. Have I just not expressed how important it is enough? I feel like chores are a nuisance to INFJs because they're so inherently unimportant, and yet so vital if the INFJ needs a calm and tidy environment. As for caring for the health of a loved one, that's not a nuisance at all, but can be nerve-wracking because INFJs feel so incompetent to begin with, and are afraid of messing up important practical things. If my INTP would let me care for his health I would, but we don't seem to be on the same page regarding what that means! Lol!

I am an INTP and I think the biggest problem we have is that most people lack intelligence therefore they make us explain everything! even the smallest and insignificant detail and even then they do not understand the idea that we present to them. The other problem also has to do with people and that is that people do not have unconditional kindness and they think they have the right to treat you badly because they think you are someone not worthy of appreciation. When we know very well that they did not understand from the beginning, because they are incapable of understanding without needing to see everything from the same closed angle that represents their minds so closed and basic. Many people have minds full of rules, degeneration or simple hedonistic selfishness that are not able to see the reality that we present to them, the INTPs are usually somewhat idealistic, one of those fools who believes that anyone could be a friend or any woman could be beloved but then we must accept that such a thing is only an illusion of the most absurd, most people simply will not understand. The INTP usually have something that most people are not able to see and that is that we are quite considerate and kind in a very sincere and pure way, that combined with the great intelligence that we usually have makes us someone who values two things that modern society lacks. Because we do not usually have compression from others we usually exclude ourselves from the world because not only are they not necessary, they are not capable of valuing the virtues that are silent and only focus on the supposed defects we have such as being too complex or giving importance to the little details that make the image of everything we have in our mind. I am an INTP and I appreciate the sweetness of an INFP, the sincerity of an INFJ, the spontaneity of an ESFP the question is whether they are able to see that not everything is rainbow, wrong or right and happiness, that where there is happiness there is also something else that is as unpleasant as real. Trying to be a freethinker in a society that asks you to think certain things or you are mentally ill, a great despot or a tyrant is complicated, but above all it is a path that unfortunately we must travel alone because the rest will not understand or simply they don't want to understand. Maybe that's why we are so apathetic and lonely people, because what we seek and desire does not exist most of the time, because others do not have what we want so much.

As a very sensitive INFJ one of the best things I've ever realised within myself, and implemented, is my ability to separate other people's opinions/remarks etc from my own self esteem/feelings. Which to some might seem like the obvious thing to do and comes naturally to them, but INFJs tend to take everything to heart lol. Now I just take it as someone's opinion and that's that, it's up to me to decide if I let it touch me. I think it's made me easier to talk to/more understanding for other personality types who are incredibly blunt but don't mean it personally hehe.

Yeah I have honestly never understood why people get personally offended when I say I don't like X song that they sent me. It's makes absolutely no sense. It's not like they wrote the song and I said it was a shit song. I went on a date many years ago with a girl who had some favourite donut shop. We went to get these donuts and when we were eating them she said "I won't get offended if you don't like them or eat them" and I was like "why would you get offended?". I don't know much about other types but I suspect non INTP's do have difficulty separating themselves from their ideas and their work. I question their ideas and it's felt as a personal attack. Most people would prefer I lie to them and just agree with everything they say, it's ridiculous. There is a "saying?" In programming which is "criticise the code not the coder"

Hm.... I’m an INTP and I have to say, a thing I’ve seen in other INTP’s is perhaps the lack of... tact? Diplomacy? Like, basically often times they don’t phrase/express it in a way that is well received. I feel that though the truth is definitely important, if you are going to express your opinions, what is the purpose of doing so? For example, when I tell someone I dislike something, I would say a part that I like to soften the “blow” and then say, “eh, it’s not bad, but not for me.” I think it’s important/logical to do that because for me my purpose would be to try and convey my likes and dislikes. And logically, if I cared enough to do that, usually it’s because I want to be around them in the future, which is why I want to tell them something so that they don’t repeat it. However, if there way I say it to them is harsh, then it would be against my end goal of having them around me.

@Angelique Wu I’m an INTP and I totally agree. I guess my tertiary Fe might just be more developed or something, but I have never had a problem with coming off as “rude” and have always seen myself as somewhat of a diplomat. I don’t think INTPs lack the ability to express themselves without hurting others, and many INTPs I’ve met in real life are very warm. I believe that deep down, all INTPs wish for social harmony and dislike arguments and tension due to the Fe in our function stack. As an INTP to you all: imo it’s worth it to try to be nicer to people and to try to understand people better. This ultimately makes YOU feel better!

@@henryhelmuth886 Deep down all INTPs probably want harmony, but that harmony cannot exist on a foundation of lies. Since it's likely impossible for every person on earth to know the truth about everything harmony is highly unlikely. So one must choose whether they want to discover truths or to enjoy occasional peace at the cost of ignorance. And wouldn't you know it, (one of if not the only) universal commonalities between every single INTP is a compulsion/addiction towards objective and universal truths.

@@theta682pl What do you mean by "discover truths?" I agree that some people are "fake" and deliberately lie to make others feel better for their own gain, but it's possible to be genuinely nice and not compromise truth. You don't always have to correct people if they are wrong. And it's possible to remain kind while doing so, you just need to be tuned into how that person feels upon receiving the information.

I know a lot about them and keep learning about and from them. It's even better when they open up & allow me to influence or inspire their framework. Then it becomes harmonious and I'm honored to be a part of that exchange. Really insightful video!

Interesting video! From my experience, you touch upon points characteristic of the INTP personality, despite being an INFJ yourself. I'd like, in response, to share my thoughts. Many of your viewers will be INFJs given the focus of your channel. So, you might appreciate somebody to chime in when the subject matter is relevant to their type. Fortunately, in this video I can take up that responsibility. You state INTPs help personality types with weaker Tis synthesise their insights. I find this characteristic of the purpose-driven INTP who is aware of conversational roles. In conversations myself, the role I take facilitates this need of clarity for more Fe-centric people. I can explain the role by referring to it as a 'discussion leader', connoting the business-like note-taker in meetings, and by deconstructing it into two attitudes. The first attitude, in both 1-1 and group conversations, is for the INTP to be the 'synthetic discussion leader'. The DL, in general, guides conversations from a) disparate comments about the observable world (e.g. the weather is gorgeous this afternoon), or b) random insights about themselves (e.g. I feel overwhelmed in my job today), into their larger contexts. In the case of a person gravitating to a, saying, "Brexit will destroy this country!", I'd respond, "Interesting. You have reached a rather hyperbolic conclusion here, which may or may not be true. Let us, however, if you may, investigate what a country needs to continue it's development, and discuss how the current state of the Brexit deal might therein impact those factors." With less pretentiousness. This example extrapolates a disparate insight around a more general topic, which I consider synthetic I would then cement my role as the discussion leader using a critical attitude (an impartial, hyper-focused analyser). Thus one role becomes 'synthetic, critical discussion leader'. However, if the conversation contains mostly b, I will be a discussion leader of a different variety. At 6:30, you mentioned INTPs focus on the abstract over the person. In other words, you rightly point out INTPs act as if everything is a when sometimes they are b, and b requires sensitivity. Thus, if in the first 5 minutes I detect (through assessing body language), an emotional disposition, I become an 'synthetic, empathetic discussion leader'. This role switches off the critical lens (wherein I mentally reconstruct arguments into a map, and summarise, critique, question and take perspectives) and instead aims to provide an agreeable interlocutor through their various concerns. An INTP would do well to detect whether his fellow humans require a critical or empathetic lens, and so I have a few tips. If you're an INTP, consider: - Using the first five minutes or so of a conversation to feel out a person's disposition. If they're self-interested, you can make a decision to explore their subjective world with them or disengage. If they're in thought, you can engage your critical lens. Note, the role of the discussion leader is to always provide structure, progress past rabbitholes and tangents, and summarise at the end. The critical lens is optional, but I find (when our thinking skills are developed), critical analysis accompanies general analysis very well. - Read around NVC. Non-violent communication is a concept you'll benefit from particularly when engaging with people who require your understanding. And to develop Ti (whether you're an INTP or not): - Preplan everything. If you don't have a plan beforehand, you can't expect to perform it given a new context. You should be able to set a goal for any event (e.g. going shopping), so you may follow a outline on autopilot. This means you have your working memory freed to execute other functions. - Listen to many talks, speeches, conversations, podcasts - whatever online. Using a notepad, list in sequence the topics covered. Underneath, write what was said. Then, in a separate section, jot down the main issue and all the various arguments, with the arguments in syllogistic form. If you can't do this, don't expect to be able to criticise them when they're floating around in conversational air. - Similarly, learn argument mapping. Argument mapping involves laying out every premise, conclusion and warrant discussed using, for example, a graphic organiser. I recommend 'Rationale'. Once you're able to recognise the different functions a proposition can serve, you'll be able to connect them. Then, you'll soon be able visualise them in conversations. A personal note: I've managed to map a thirty minute discussion into a mental notebook before, which allowed me to apply mental models, background knowledge and several analysis skills onto the various threads. This ability is vital to the value of an INTP, so develop it. - Know how to critique arguments. At the very least, know the difference between - And so on...

I have several good friends (long term friends) but only one of them I feel truly clicked with and a sense of comfort and harmony. Only recently I realized that we are INTP and INFJ pairing. She even joked one time that she’d marry me if I was a guy.

I think i need a help. I don’t know whether i am intp or infj but as much as i care about talking truthfully i also care about other’s feeling. So for example my friend asked me how do i think about her artwork, and if it’s bad ones, i think i feel the need to tell it as it is but i will try hard to cover it with sweet words and intonation so that other person feels okay to get it, but in the end i care and want her to know the truth instead of faking it. Unless in a clear debate i can be very forceful tho. Also i care about humanity, every time i see injustice happening i can not refrain my self from speaking up and defend them, i feel touched about bad things happen to people, but i can’t feel touched by sad story if it’s illogical, like empathizing someone who is sad because she lost her important belonging, i don’t get and i can’t relate. But i care about human and i can get emotional signals from someone especially near me. I started to rethink back am i really INTP? But i think i am more intp, MBTI sometimes confusing me especially when we have only a slightly different percentage of stack functions

I think I am brutally honest, I know I have Fe, and so I do care about people, but my Ti just thinks well why would they be offended, they asked for my opinion, I'm not just going to lie or ignore them, I have no reason to! I'm happy that you see us as the kind of the refiners of thoughts or the gardeners of the idea forest, sometimes I just want to know everything that goes on inside someone's mind because I want story time and I want to get to know people in a long term way.

Is he trying to say that your taste is unexamined or bad or does he actually not understand why you like something? Taste/preference is really touchy since it is so personal. I'm an INTP and I would almost never go near questioning someone's taste. There is little to gain.

Hi James, no he wouldn't question my taste, I think he respects it and that's why he very often checks out what I share. But occasionally he'll comment saying: "I don't get what you like about this song. It's terrible!" or something like that, usually better argued of course, haha. It's never anything personal, though.

I'm an INTP, whatever that means. I'm not a huge believer in these things but this video was pretty cool, gj :D I do actually question everything. Most of the time I assume it's because I'm slow in the brain hole xD I'm always very surprised when people think I'm intelligent, and it makes me a bit uncomfortable

Ewww, praise and admiration?! Gross! D: Lmao, jokes aside, it's normal for smart people to feel stupid, it's a side-effect of being smart... The smarter you are, the dumber you feel. 8D Being smart isn't satisfying. xD

I've seen quite a few of these videos and reading a lot of comments. I am really just trying to understand how to socialize more effectively and I am not getting any ideas outside of, "INTPs need to change and be like the other personality types." I don't think "we" are liked very much and it doesn't make much sense from a divine or evolutionary viewpoint to create a species that is inherently social and have a subset of that species that is not welcomed or even wants to be welcomed into the group. Should we conclude that INTP is an aberration? I await your input with bated breathe..... as if a reply ever comes...Ha!

what does it mean when an INTP puts his hand on an INFJ's head, does it mean regret, understanding, affection or what ?
