Something interesting when an INFJ is extremely close to an INTP, it seems the INFJ grows a little more logical and the INTP a little more sensitive. Very interesting.

True, it was like that but then she (INFJ with Borderline personality) got unstable for some bad events in her life and damn, you don't want to see an INFJ vs an INTP demon vs demon, both attacking were it really hurts always aiming for the head, that went for a couple of months until I said I didn't want to see her ever again if she was unstable and irrational and she proceeded to door slam me and we never talked again, not even true love can triumph mental instability, not gonna lie, best time of my life followed by hell, hope she is doing better now I still miss her.

Anything that can give endless thoughts and subjects to discuss are "beautiful" to me because of the intensify of these talks and thoughts. We’ve never had a real argument, however, both enjoy each other’s views and opinions no matter how contradicting or brash. In college we would talk for 10 hours straight in our kitchen/living room. About everything. Then we’d walk back in our rooms and not see each other for 4-5 days. And repeat. Nailed this video. (Oh, I should mention we are both filmmakers and screenwriters.) I've also met INTJ's before (my father being one of them) and I don't think the compatibility is as good as the INTP with INFJ. I also find ENFP's to be cool but they drain my energy. ENTP is the recommended pairing for INFJ but my brother is ENTP and I just don't think they get along as well as they should in theory. (Not that me and my brother don't get along). INTP's seem to be so calm, patient, and collected in society. I could have worded this so much better than I did but these are my raw thoughts and I ain't got time to edit lol.

I think that as an INFJ you have to catch the INTP on a good day. When their Fe is exhausted due to overuse, they can becone highly insensitive. You have to be very patient to tolerate it. It depends on the stage of development. When both are highly developed in their lower stack functions, they can be the best of friends. (Better even, they can help each other develop their judging functions.) Otherwise, they can cause much friction among each other.

PowerRedBull I see where you are coming from, but you do seem to be biased by one or more negative experiences, judging by your statements (which are very generalised, but you mention "her"). The INFJs I know and get along with are using their Ti very much, in one case so much so that Fe got supressed and therefore he occasionally comes across like an INTP. The INFJs you know, if that is the case, probably don't use their Ti to explain the impressions they get through Ni. It is either not very developed or they don't want to develop it. Knowing how Ni works helps a lot with explaining our impressions, just like I got a holistic impression of you from the vocabulary you used and in one instance the pronoun. (And please do correct me if I'm wrong.) At the same time, our Fe makes us sensitive to our surroundings, more precisely the people in it, and usually we try to keep a harmonious environment, so we engage in perception management. Contrary to an Fe-dom, we don't ignore our authenticity, which can make it difficult at times to persuade us (although it is actually comparatively easy). Although we lead with a perceiving function, we are still judgers, which is expressed in our initial stubbornness. But any INFJ still internalises the information s/he rejected at first and thinks about it, and afterwards they may change their minds if they believe the logic is sound. The reason they reject an opinion/argument/fact can be as simple as its delivery or the deliverer. If the person a isn't trustworthy source of information (PoLR Te) or if the person was abrasive, insulting or even unfeeling (for the most sensitive ones), the initial reaction comes from Fe (as a kind of kneejerk reaction), which is unsurprisingly as negative as the deliverer was negative towards them. As you can see, there are a lot different flavours to the INFJ, most being more developed than the version you were talking about. I hope my half-statement, half-explaination (seems my Fe got the better of me and sent me on a tangent) helps you not to see INFJs in general as negatively as you do now. I value the INTP input a lot, even if their low Fe can sometimes come across as intentionally insulting (even if it's not intentional). We usually just filter what we're saying through Fe, and consider how it may come across, in order to be as authentic and non-confrontational as possible. An INFJ who isn't developed or doesn't want to, may not see past their own nose and lash out. It is true that INTP-INFJ relationships are rare and usually don't work out due to Ni being the INTP's countervalued function. At the same time, the INFJ is seeking Se, which is the INTP's blind spot. But friendships are more than likely to happen. With the occasional meltdown or fallout :) So long as noone takes it personally and is understanding towards the other, they can help each other develop.

Hi Jen, I indeed mentioned "her" but that was mostly an example, since INFJ's are more often females and INTP males. I thought about mentioning 'him or him' but thought that it would eventually get kind of "messy" to read since once started, one would have keep mentioning both genders in each sentence following in the whole post and I know my posts are never short (very intp-ish I guess?) and it would be less clear to read. My ideas are based on quite some INFJ's, both genders but more females. I can not really objectively rate how developed those INFJ's are in comparison to the 'average' INFJ, since I can not compare INFJ's I know with the ones I do not know, because..well I do not know them (lol). I think the thing is that most of the INFJ's I know are generally not good at making themself happy and sort of keep struggling in life. I think alot of this comes from (sorry fo the words) being a bit of a (emotional?) unsorted "mess" inside from my "robotic-intp" viewpoint. Not a mess in the sense they're bad people. Very far from that actually. It's more that alot of their inner world seems to consist of expanding , yet often conflicting filters, layers and shields that are formed from old memories and new experiences that are making the INFJ more unhappy than that they're actually helpfull, especially in the longer run. From my subjective viewpoint (such) INFJ's would benefit from more (Ti?) understanding of themself, to view the world and themself as it really is and to simplify things rather than building additional layers and complicate them. They, or at least that ones i know, sort of have all these layers on layers to protect them from this, to achieve that, or be this, but not that, yet to want this, but not that etc etc...(in other words , alot of complicatedness and contradictions) that to me it looks so much like a castle build with duct tape that is getting higher and higher, and about to fall down, but yet the person in question is stubbornly thinking what they're doing is what works and is a good idea because they "believe in it 100%", despite being told by multiple people it does not work what they're doing.. I can not blame anyone or any type for their weaknesses, because obviously with any strength comes a weakness, but I think the thing is that when one thinks one of their weaker areas is one of their stronger ones, the problem is that one will continue no matter what others may say . To me it comes across as me saying I think it's sooo important to not step on any toes when pointing out my opinion, yet as an INTP I know these Fe kind of things are not my strongest areas and more Fe dominants problably know these social rules better than I do and when they say. So a very INFJ thing what you're saying: - logical ideas are rejected because of being stubborn and otherwise if the ideas are not presented in the for the INFJ appropriately Fe type of manner, However, although rejecting these ideas or insights when offered, they later apparently as you mention do (silently?)get valued. I find it hard to communicate with someone when they say 'NO the answer is answer A 100% sure" and then later DO change their mind. Either a point is valid or it's not, and when different systems get's mixed up (thinking/feeling) it comes down to the summery that the INFJ has a limited and specific instruction manuel in how ideas or insight might get incorporated. PS : -I had to look up the "the pronoun " thing since my english is not my first language and I'm far from fluent in it. I still do not really get what you meant there "I got a holistic impression of you from the vocabulary you used *and in one instance the pronoun*. (And please do correct me if I'm wrong.)". So you got an hollistic impression of me, based on 1 pronoun I told you? I'm curious what that impression is? - i also do not know the word "PoLR" .Te stands for Extroverted thinking here right? Looked it up on internet and it showed me mostly watches... ? lol

    @jenlan7440

I think the INFJs that you do know are not very balanced, even unhealthy. They don't seem to use Ni, as it is a function that is actually there for filling gaps and seeing things for what they are, as a whole. The more healthy the INFJ, the less likely they are to reject perspectives, which is actually the whole deal of Fe. I think that the INFJ(s) you know are focussing too much on set themselves apart from the world, and perceiving themselves as special for their rarity. This is also called the "special snowflake syndrome". Indulging in this is not only immature, it is unhealthy, as it keeps the INFJ from connecting with the world and the people as they should. As such, keeping to their own principles is generally not a bad thing, but shutting out every chance of growth which comes with understanding perspectives is counterproductive. So in general, yes, INFJs do well to develop their Ti, but they also have to watch out not to forget developing Ni or Fe in the process. They could fall "into the grip" of their inferior function or get suck in the "Ni-Ti loop". The INFJs that you reference might actually be stuck in their "shadow" (shadow functions), something else you might want to look up. English is not my native tongue either, so I get your misunderstanding me. What I meant with holistic is not you as a person (I hardly know you and if I were to say something about this, it would be highly presumptuous) but your perspective on INFJs. The use of your vocabulary as a whole in that first post was highly generalising and negative, which led me to believe that you were biased in some respect, I guessed from personal experience. I see now that your generalisation is only partially biased, and for the other part actual generalised data that you remembered. It is not exactly a bad thing to generalise (Ni-users do it all the time), but going by statistics is also not a good way to judge people by. We are still individuals, each their own person, with different stages of development. I don't take it personally, but just a good advice from my side, people don't like being judged by statistics. Therefore, I would advise you to use more appropriate (i.e. not gender-biased) pronouns in the future when referring to a personality type. I know quite a few male INFJs who are not in the slightest feminine. Besides, it's uncommon in English to use the feminine pronoun as a pronoun for both genders. Either the male pronoun is used or the nowadays outdated "singular they". Coming back to the topic, PoLR comes from a theory similar to the MBTI, by name of socionics. PoLR is short for "Point of Least Resistance", which is basically the individual personality type's blind spot. I use the information from both theories to gain a more complete understanding of intertype relationships.

As an INTP, I will say the insensitivity is not on purpose. It is difficult for INTPs to relate to INFJs feelings at times. And when the Fe exhaustion kicks in, INTPs will become cold and distant. It is a defense/recharge mechanism. We go from Professor X to Magneto 😁. But if the INFJ is patient and forgiving, the INTP will come around again and also seek peace. My 2 cents

Sadly, not all comments are nice, because people do not understand how rare it is for introverted people with strong intuition to find someone else that understands them, and how that sometimes matters more than age or can be more important than how and why you are connected to that someone. However, I'll always be very aware that I am his mother and I never let him get stuck in this "friendship" no matter how comfortable it might be.

He was deaf for the first few years of life and does not enjoy music the way I do, but we almost always order the same thing at restaurants without consulting each other. He prefers logical pursuits and answering questions on Yahoo answers. We can spend hours just talking and debating about all sorts of subjects. Thank you so much for these videos. That's really spot on! Two of my three boyfriends were INTPs. The second one somehow moved in with me after two weeks of dating and hasn't left since. That happened nine years ago. We've been married for five years now. That's not to say there aren't any attitudes and behaviours about him that drive me nuts, but overall he is one of the very few human beings that I don't feel drained by and I am one of the very few human beings that he doesn't completely despise (his words).

9:35 (INTP here) Actually INTP's enjoy dealing with details a lot more than INFJ's do....whenever it is something we are interested in. Like the intricacies of how other's minds work or how a scientific theory works but focusing on the exceptions to the rule to be as precise as possible is what we live for. Mundane tasks we don't like such as what to wear, what to eat, or even what we look like. If it takes away from our thinking processes we aren't interested in it. But whenever there is detail to be had with logic we will usually be the first one to point out a detail missed or overlooked....which in me doing this ironically proves my point xD

INFJ here. I don't mind doing daily chores if I need time to ponder about life stuff (e.g world econony) because putting my hands to do low level repetitive tasks is very good therapy. On the other hand, it gets kind of old when I am hooked on something else, but the chores demand my attention. Therefore I always find a way to scale daily chores so that I can minimize the interruption as such, e.g prepare meals that lasts for several days, wear and wash clothes only when they are really dirty, buying groceries and supplies so they last for few weeks or months. I know it sounds so common, but having to optimize time spent on these things are so satisfying, it is like running a factory or some efficient machine where it produces more result without much daily intervention. Oh yea, one more thing that I discovered passion is gardening. Setting up the conditions for the plant, then doing nothing else after that but to watch it grow, it's so fascinating. Just do the work once, then the plants do the work for you.

If you’re still friends, and are both single, then what you could do is have a “what if” conversation, and ask, “I’m not saying we need to do this, but if we were to be boyfriend and girlfriend, how would we manage that relationship over time?” In other words, see if you can come to an agreement on having kids (when, how many, parenting strategies), spending, managing in laws, life goal intercompatibility, and whatever else you can think of. If you can’t agree on these important long-term compatibility issues, then you can just remain friends - no harm, no foul! But if you can agree on these things, especially if she’s willing to have such an extensive discussion, then you need to take the possibility very seriously of making the jump. The best, most stable, longest-lasting relationships are predicated on friendship, first. Think Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, or the Life Uncontained couple. Reynolds/Lively started out as a long-term friendship, then they both realized, “Wait a minute…”

We REALLY understand each other and we even managed (during our 10 years relationship + 4 years of friendship prior to that) to develop a code for each other to better understand our needs. Like... for when he needs to express his inner thoughts and theories just to feel understood but doesn't really need opinions or help or when I'm in a loop of overthinking and selfdoubts and I need an hug rather that a rational conversation.

I didn't like difficult, long, exhaustive physical tasks that I perceive as petty aka housechores; but even mental tasks that deal w/ many, minute details. I thought I was only being lazy, irresponsible, impatient. I carried unhealthy self-image bec. of guilt & shame. Somehow we have come to understand each other and have found common ground and now I feel like we are on great terms. Can you give me some advice. My older brother is a infj and I’m a intp. I’m having a hard time communicating with him and at this point we aren’t talking because we are always butting heads. I find it hard to talk to him because I’m always in my head focusing on other things so when he talks to me it’s hard switching to talking mode with him. I come off rather blunt too because he keeps reflecting on the same issues over and over again and I can’t take it anymore. Then when I give him advice it’s either no I’m wrong or he already knew that. If I keep questioning him about things he gets mad at me saying oh why can’t you just get it. I need to clarify so that I can understand what your talking about. I also feel like he doesn’t respect my introversion. I like my time alone and he gets annoyed about me because my social battery is limited. I can speak hours but not when I’m focusing on something else. I’ve tried to talk to him about this but it seems like we’re going no where. There is a lack of understanding on both sides and I’m frustrated. I don’t know how to improve this relationship. I get along with my Infp sister more because even if we don’t understand something about each other we try or accept our differences. I’m tired of being called a villian because I don’t live up to his standards of a nice sister.

Toxic masculinity? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the term means something different where you're from than in the states, but masculinity isn't toxic in and of itself. If his family is overly male dominant and oppressive to the point of not honoring the woman's rights that's one thing, but masculinity isn't toxic. If there's a guy who is oppressive and disrespectful then he's just an asshole. This, however, would not be an example of the social justice warrior term "toxic masculinity." This term is blatantly sexist and unfounded. Regardless, I'm happy for you that you've found such a successful relationship.

INTP here. Had a short romance with an INFJ and it was enthralling, magical, and frictionless. She helped me be more in tune with emotions and she became able to think more rationally. I'd go for another one! Currently with a INTJ. We often think the same things and it feels like we aren't two separate people. I also have a huge respect for, and good understanding of how her mind works. It's super comforting because i don't have to expend much mental energy to predict what's going on in her head. Therefore my mind is free to do more INTP stuff. :) The point of friction is that we're both problem solvers and sometimes compete on that. This can become mutually frustrating. I've learned that there are a few ways to handle this: 1) If she is experienced with the problem, i give her the steering wheel and only offer feedback if the idea fails or is sufficiently non-optimal. It can be hard to hold my tongue sometimes though. 2) If we both don't know, i tell her to give me time to think about it and later offer up several ideas for her to chose from, pointing out the upsides/downsides of each. We can discuss it and if there is no clear optimal choice, she gets to decide. 3) If i am experienced with the problem, i make a good argument to convince her i am, and she'll hand me the steering wheel, knowing i would be best at solving it. But she can become frustrated with the amount of time i need and the noodly process. I like #2 the most because it feels very bonding when we solve a problem together. I have an INTJ math professor boss and we've learned to do #2 as often as possible. I use my P to provide a set of fully thought out solutions and she uses her J to chose one. I would say my emotional connection to my INTJ girlfriend and INTJ male friends is basically nonexistant, but the intellectual connection is super intense and feels more lke home than having an intense emotional connection.

Probably he have undeveloped Fe. It's problem of many (not all) young INTPs. I something read about some INTPs (like me) that are humanistic INTPs not mathematics. Humanistic INTPs like more psychology, philosophy etc. and we develope our Fe with reading about theories about people nature. Maybe your INTP need something like that, or just he need more time to develop Fe. Also he need to understand that u need to speak about feelings.

Jazz to me personally most often tends to sound somewhat similar, and if anything, not challenging to listen to. The melodies in jazz do not seem to consist of the type of logical patterns like in some classical music, but rather mostly seem to consist of solos where each note seems kinda random, like a guitar solo in whatever music. Indeed the melody is harder to predict, but it's more random at the same time. Jazz is possibly complex, but predictable in its complexity, if that makes sense? If for example music consists of a certain scale, then just adding notes into certain chords that are not part of that particular scale, seems to give me that 'wow I did not expect that' moment, while if music was pretty much chromatic from the start, no other tone is really going to surprise me. A movie like a mindfuck movie where suddenly an element of surprise is added to twist the whole thing does it more for me than a movie that is just very complicated the whole time. It's the change of the pattern that does it for me. However, there needs to be a enough of a limiting pattern in order to make something pop out of that pattern. At least, that's how I would personally describe my preference without knowing musical theory. I just know about the scales because I was curious what exactly made me like certain songs/music that had these 'wow' moment for me, and apparently it's either called 'borrowed chords' or something else that I forgot... Also I like music that is more suspensfull /sad or thrilling, and to me all Jazz that've heard so far gives me a happy sensation rather than the opposite which I prefere. However, if you have interesting recommendations I would be mor than happy to hear them! It's really hard to find music that has these things that I like!

P O W E R - R E D - B U L L Jazz is not really written in a key, so that’s why it’s all over the place. I, too, like darker, more mysterious music. But I also like the right kind of optimistic euphoric music.

@@astavas8341 I like the classical chords structures, but prefer non classical instrumentation, because that seems more refreshing to me. I like a lot of *genre x meets classical y' music..but there is not that much of that..and oftentimes I already know these classical pieces so well.
