I feel like Jon is making the videos he would have wanted to see when he was getting started. Love to see the effort to empower other artists.

For anyone wanting to learn chords, I really recommend Kenny Werner's Effortless Mastery method. The essence is you write 4 chords every day (doesn't really matter which) and learn to play them in sequence and learn how they relate to each other so you develop muscle memory over time. Dude also has a lot of wisdom about how to play music and how to live life well.

"Remove yourself from the finished product" I really needed to hear and solidify that idea in my head. It can be easy to think what the end goal is even though messing around without caring about the finished product usually gives the best results. I just need to apply that in a way where I can more easily get out of my own way. This video is a nugget of gold and I appreciate the understanding!
Slap back delay as a reverb is so slept on.
Yep. Longer format doing exactly what I hoped for. Nice one.

Jon is easily the realest dude on here, straight to the point. That highhat sounds soooo good. People are putting too many sounds in their songs instead of making the sounds they got even better. Good advicr.
I love how your mood is lifted as the beat comes together. So wavy.
Loved the little production tips in this one, and the new format. Thanks Jon!
Long time fan of your music. Really appreciate you sharing this. That beat sounds dope!
Thank you so much dude. You really make this alot easier to understand. Been jamming your music for a while now, its an honor to learn from you.
Love the PVM + Mister in the background. Been bumping you for years man, you took me on this journey with my SP like no other ;) Thanks for what you do!
we love you jon, you were one of my BIGGEST inspos for production loved the raps, loved the beats. One Love Jon
I really appreciate this. Thanks Jon
As a very bad instrumentalist, I have a very similar process on Ableton. So fun to watch you create those intricate beats. You're soothing dude
thanks, your videos are amazing, love the way you make music without a screen, makes the final tune really soulful
Your music felt like a backbone for me during a very difficult time of my life. Thanks so much, Jon. It's great to see you in your element.
you’re a vibe man! always great hangin with you on the tube
This is the best beatmaking video I have seen. Makes it so universal too. Cross machine, cross genre. Love it!
I love watching you cook up man. Your process and the way you explain is really dope.

Absolutely incredible! Thank you very much to share your tips and tricks. I have an OT since almost a year and I learned a lot on your channel. Since I starred beatmaking couple of years ago, I've always only used samples for my beats, because I'm scared without them. But now you unlocked me a new level. I'm very thankful
A man after my heart bro, great stuff. Its good to see someone showing some actual production stuff as most people in the youtube "production" space are sort of leading people down the garden path by just showing folks production with sample packs and setting them up for a copyright claim and or loosing royalties because they used a sample that isn't cleared... more folks did it your way bro they wouldn't have to worry about clearing samples..great work mate
Thank you Jon, you are a good guy sharing your insights. We appreciate it!
Absolutely fantastic video, Jon - such a great watch.
this is great. who knew a good musician would create such a simple and thorough video!
Cool seeing you branch out Jonwayne, helping folks, still remember seeing you live in the UK Liverpol, was a fun night
Been following your stuff for a while, since like the i dont care mixtape. Glad to see you still out here man
big thank you, these are the videos that really help people like me that are starting
This was a great video. Got a lot of ideas to add to my process. More like this please Jon.
Love watching you work !
Good stuff buddy. This type of content always inspires me to hop in the deli.
This is sick, thank you man
Thanks for this video, man. Really lit me up and got me excited to make stuff.
I will never stop making beats with audio. Even with all these vsts and midi capabilities etc. audio/samples is where I’m at my best

long as you're modifying and adding to samples, and not just slapping a drum loop on, is fine. theres lots of beat elitists out there when we're all just adding sounds together at the end of the day

Jon is literally the Greatest for this content. Thankyou so much, Jon.
Bro wtf JONWAYNE has a damn KZread CHANNEL
So awesome! Thanks for the pointers
Ive been making beats since 2016 (off an on) and i can say this has been the most helpful video in probably 3 years. Like many I first saw you on RR and loved your beat and then found your channel a few months ago and loved your beats. Pretty much the only beatmaker I watch, thank you for this.
I recently started watching your videos consistently and the way you create was a huge inspiration in my mindset when it came to using my newly acquired Ableton Push 3. I had already been a long time Ableton user but I didn’t want to just do what I had been doing. I wanted to fully “buy in” to the standalone mentality and your videos were a great example on how to do that. Thanks 🙏🏾
I have all your albums on repeat in the shop. You make the long days easy man. I see you. Keep bein you. ❤
I love this style of music. Such a lovely fusion of Hiphop, Funk, with a slight electro space vibe! Keep it up bro 🔥
Thanks, Jon. Not only did I have fun learning, I got to hear a woozy beauty being made.
14:47 - had to sneak that Sitar in there eh 😂. Loved this video and beat. You have such an amazing talent to be able to do what you do AND teach what you do. Super inspiring! Thanks for this one. I need to put more hours into the OT!
I’m not even halfway through the video, but I can tell you are a great amazing person and love the way you explain things.
Amazing video man thanks for the exploration into your process I’m real inspired! 👊🏼👑
i love the microtonal aspects of this one. it has many triphop and even chill idm vibes. i really dig that.
As someone who strictly only uses a midi keyboard and FL studio, I found this to be so informative. Until more recently, I had no idea a large group of people were still making beats with hardware like this. I think I am going to try and dip a toe into hardware production at some point.

Go for it man. Totally different experience to using a DAW, one isn't better than the other. If nothing else, you'll definitely learn something!

DAW production is amazing, hardware production is also amazing but a hybrid between both is elite!! (In my opinion)
@markmanter6508
6 ай бұрын
@@ParkerRoberson-jf8ewhybrid setups are the way to go! I feel like it allows you to fully expand your palette of sounds you want and honestly allows you to utilize software in a different way than you normally would. For me, I can’t be creative just sitting in front of a computer with a DAW…I need a more hands on approach. Both aspects are super important, and not everybody NEEDS them to create, but it’s forsure helpful.
@jonasharp3

I agree with what others have said here about hybrid setups being great, but honestly the way to go is learning the tools that are already in your daw before getting any hardware or 3rd party plugins. Each daw has its strengths and weaknesses, and each user has different needs, so it’s best to figure out what that means for you so you can buy gear with intent. Otherwise you wind up with a pile of stuff you haven’t really learned how to use, and it can make it really tough to come up with ideas. Limits are the best thing for creativity.

If you don't use the feature where you can plink around on the keyboard and then dump up to the last 20 min of midi data to a pattern, you're missing out on a huge way to do what this guy is essentially doing, but more powerfully.
Best video I've ever seen, just pure art. And dudes so philosophical without even trying lol

Cool gear. Great tutorial. Most importantly though, fantastic sound. I was so relieved at the beginning to not hear a house/techno pattern and you took it much further! Subscribed. OK(okokokokoko) LMAO the random vocal delay in there is pretty funny too
The best video of the world, thank you for everything !!!!!
Cheers dude, loved that real helpful too.
Absolute fantastic video. Stumbled on it while falling asleep. Don’t need help creating from scratch, but this is absolutely a class for beginners on how workflow can go. Great video, great execution, great beat. Thanks man, love when the music world shares so openly like this

Another great video Jon. The okays always get me cracking up.
Love this video. Thanks for sharing the way YOU like to create. One thing g that unlocks me from getting stuck in one key (because I’m not a great keys player) is the Novation launchpad pro. The scales and chords features are awesome for me.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and never knew you worked with Mac on Buttons and Dunno. I love your work man, keep it up!
Wow I'm so glad the algorithm enabled me to find you again.
Big up Jon!

Yessir . Love the long content videos bro
I can appreciate the originality😎 and this beat is dope af!! found myself playing along w my electric guitar 🎶🎶🎶
the vocal Dubs i guess you'd call em, as your transitions are really fucking cool Jon. I love coming back to this channel to learn and just listen to Awesome beats
Amazing chill and honest video, this is what so many entry producers need! I’m Looking also for a DAWless setup, I have the Deluge as my center piece, but still not satisfied. Now I’m thinking about using a Tascam 12/16 and/or the MPC one. Or the Octatrack but its difficult to make the right decision. I just want to have a hands-on less menu diving recording setup that doesnt’ kill the creative vibe.
Cool, man. Since I was little my brother taught me how to use various drum machines, 606, 707, 808, 909, a few Korgs, but we started on Synsonic Drums. Did loops with a modified pause button on a tape deck. I started using VSTs early when people said you have to get the hardware. I use Maschine and Studio One now. Love to see people using hardware and your collection looks beautiful.
🔥🔥 That beat turned out soo nice!👌
Fantastic jon! More long form for the boissss

OK, learned a lot but nothing threw me more than learning that Irving Berlin only played in 'one' key.
Great video, it makes me feel more at home with some of the material that I've studied but haven't explored very fully in my own time yet. That track is just delicious, I could eat it! I enjoyed the little touches of the ol' tellie behind you, like popping up the footage of ol' Irving. Cool stuff, thanks Jon!
