I'm focusing on weighted ring push ups right now. Like you said, I love the simplicity of just adding a little weight for overloading. Are there any considerations for weight on the rings? Should I still do RTO? I've noticed some people quit doing them with a load, but I've never head an explanation why.

Because I am very heavy & obese (far over 180 kg) I've started with "push-aways" from the wall! You might laugh, but it's the way to start. And yes, there is progress. 🏆

Proper form and sticking to it over the long term are the most important things. Keep up the good work! Nobody worth listening to will be laughing at your efforts to lose weight. You start where you are able to and work to where you wish to be. This is true for everybody. Your starting point being different does not make your efforts any less valuable.

The superior weighted push-ups setup is a backpack with the weight shifted onto the neck like a highbar squat, it will make the weight heavier, bias the stretch more and won’t inhibit your movement. I love deficits with blocks, if you’re a bench guy but don’t have specialty bars these can make a great cambered bar substitute, you have the options of neutral and revers grips as well.

You're absolutely accurate having the weight higher up makes the weight heavier. The video was completely wrong on the weight distribution, being bottom heavy with more of your weight on you legs in fact makes it easier to do pushups. I would actually ignore the first minute of his video.

Been enjoyable to begin to notice changes in my strength. Looking forward to one day doing a lot more of these more difficult variations.

@@MrDcpishereSo he talked about how liking the video boosts performance, and how a floor pushup uses 69% of your bodyweight, and the 69 is a also sex position in which both parties perform oral sex on each other at the same time. So the joke has several layers. 69 is a common meme/joke number in English speaking internet circles

My two push-up variations of choice are: diamond push-ups between the top of a low post and a step (like a bridge, very unstable), and that variation using three boxes at 7:30 but front boxes more separated and slightly bending the knees (Daryl Conant/Gironda style, that gives you more stretch and depth). This variations keep me in the 12-18 rep range which is the higher I like to keep elbows pain free.

  • @larsnystrom6698

@sacriste I do only one triceps exercise. Triceps extensions in rings. The idea is that pushing exercises is enough for 2/3 of triceps. But doesn't do much for triceps longum. Triceps extensions do much for triceps longum, and is good for finishing of the rest of triceps. So, I do triceps extensions after ring pushups and pike pushups. I think my triceps has a balanced look from this simple program. I think of it as doing minimum for an good enough result

Any advice on progressing in rep quantity? In fact, is this even a valuable thing to pursue, say, to progress from standard floor to unilateral or more explosive pushup variations, and if not, what would be a good rep benchmark to reliably reach before looking into progression? Out of curiosity, for someone as advanced as yourself, what would be your floor pushup rep range till failure? Thanks
