I love that you let him talk and don’t interrupt or take over what he’s doing. We all know you’re an expert in your craft and it’s nice seeing someone else take the lead and run with it as well as showing us the process. Great vid Alec!
I like the genuine awe from Alec learning the ways that Sam has perfected the process of this design. Can't wait to see a team up with Will. Maybe a tour of his new shop?
11:07 There's something so satisfying and cool about using a hammer you've made as a tool to make another hammer. Like making a table on the floor, then making another table on top of the first one.
Now when back in Montana, a new episode of Alec vs Will would be really nice! Miss those 😀

hay alec i just want to thank you in being the one who got me into bladesmithing. its been a struggle over the years and people telling me I cant do it (btw I'm 13) but im now making knives and selling them. so again i thank you .

If there's a competition like Forged In Fire, but for hammers, Sam needs to go on it to show them how it's done!! He'd be the only contestant to make the hammer, go out for a quick lunch break and be back before the time is up! That would be really satisfying to watch but it would probably be a bit brutal on the other contestants 🤣😂🤣😂 That video was a thing of beauty, thanks for the behind the scenes look 👍👍👍
Man its so nice to see you back in america, a memory from the past
There's something always so satisfying about watching such a refined process, amazing people at work over there.
Sam is an excellent presenter! So glad you are going to try to see Will while in town.
Let's put those reject hammers up for sale for people who can't afford the full priced ones!!
I like him already. Can't wait to see the challenges between y'all.
Man I’m so glad you shared this video with us. You have an amazing team with you, and I just love your enthusiasm showing even how even a master blacksmith can still learn from the skilled people you’ve hired and trained. Many companies can learn a thing or two from just this video alone on what an employer should be like, and how it turns a business into a fun place to be at.
living the dream, awesome vid and love when someone can analyze a job and execute it so efficiently, amazing work
I like Sam, understated, calm and a master of his craft. Lets see more Sam please (and more Blacksmithing in general)
A joy to see something made the right way, with quality materials and skilled hands. Wonderful.
Awesome. Sam is a talented guy, you’re fortunate to have him. Thanks for sharing this.
I really like this video because it shows how blacksmithing can be turned into an actual business. Rather than make a single very cool, high complexity item, you are making a highly (hopefully) profitable item.
Forging a hammer in one heat like that is tremendous. All props to Sam for kicking ass.
Hello Alec, welcome back to the US I'm looking forward to see your upcoming videos. Hope you had a great time with your family and glad you made it back safely. Take care, my best to you and yours. R. Chavez
I like the cut of this man's jib. I like the way he can explain what he's going to do confidently and concisely.
Great to see you back in Montana Alec! Looking forward to seeing what you all get up to
Glad to finally see you back state side looming forward to seeing more frequent videos from both shops.
It's good to see Alec in the Montana Workshop again.
That was very interesting. Sam you've developed a great system. Much respect, thank you guys
Glad you're back Alec!
It is immensely satisfying to watch someone demonstrate mastery of their craft, and Sam absolutely fits that bill.
Sam looks like the kind of guy to respond to everything with "Radical" or "Totally duude", and before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, I look pretty much exactly the same lol. Loved seeing this process!
Very amazing. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Forge On. Fab on. Weld on. Keep Making. God bless.
I have honestly and truly missed this workshop so much. That is honestly HOME to a lot of us and should be that way for good reason.
Love the “ new guy” 😂 he’s a blast to watch work. I’m just beginning blacksmithing to kick off into blade smithing and have learned so much from your videos. Thank you guys 🙏
i suppose production blacksmithing is a thing that is rarely done nowadays, drop/press forging with full dies is just so much faster and more consistent, but that consistency is the difference between soulless mass production and artisan craftsmanship. this is the ultimate refinement of this craft, that man needs to be paid more!
So good to see Alec back in Montana! Missed the video that came out of that workshop.
I have been hitchhiking 9 countries over seven years all throughout europe, only to learn how to forge knifes and swords. I have visited hundreds if smiths of all sorts for my passion. If id have known that you would visit Croatia, id almost die to see you, since your passion and love for what you do comes extremely close to my mindset. I have litterally walked thousands of kilometers with my dog and a backpack full of blades and metal scraps as well as finished and unfinished swords, have been in several newspapers, my fb got hacked, I've been nearly killed multiple times in italy, it was a blast. Damn it, i knew about your tour. .. but that map you show there looks just like you went to croatia as well... I didnt expect that. Id have met my idol and told you in person how much your commitment means to me till this day and how much you inspired me in those seven years of being europes only real traveling bladesmith.
to watch a craftsman like Sam go to town, is awesome.
Really glad to see you back in the states Alec. I've been watching your videos since pretty much the beginning and you deserve everything you have. Good work picking great people to work with.
This Sam fella is cool. A natural in front of the camera and a good addition to the shop.

Alec, it's so amazing and just awesome that YOU were able to inspire and bring about this mastery! And what a simply splendid way to appreciate. Hats off to you, Sam!
Dude sounds like you had quite the adventure getting back to Montana. Loving the new dog. They are some fantastic looking hammers and quite expertly made. I like the setup and process Sam has come up with. Very efficient

Holy CRAP!!!!! Man, I just LOVE watching a professional work! You can really see the skill at play.
There is a guy who lives down the street who is tactical training his Belgian Malinois dog. Like full police dog training. I sometimes see him training in a big field within sight of my kitchen window. The dog is incredibly responsive and instantly obeys hand signal, verbal and sound commands. It's amazing to see.
Impressive work from Sam 👍. Glad to see ya back in MT ! Hope you’re able to get some refresher training with Chris before/if ya head back to the Isle
Nice work, Sam, you've found the sweet spot between 'bespoke' and 'full industrial production'. Nicely done!
is Alec "the new employee"? :)
Sam's a damn Lone Ranger stud. Dude is up there just cranking out hammers, coming up with his own processes - making it happen with his dog. Great addition. And I truly hope to see Will and Alec together in a video collab soon.
First time seeing this new dude and I already like him a lot! I hope you two pal around as well as you and will did.
It made my day seeing you back in the US even of its just for a little bit.
I had no idea how much work went into each hammer. We need more Sam in the videos.
You're a crazy hard worker Sam. I respect that.
Happy to have had you in Missouri!
Woah! What a talented guy. Also it’s awesome that he semi automated the process.

This is badass, we should have seen this young man sooner. Excellent job. You deserve more attention. Good hire Alec, bravo man! Glad to see Alec Stateside.
Watching you kids do what you do simultaneously brings me back to my youthful curiosity and gives me great pride that some younger folks appreciate and have the chops to keep the best tools ever working. Total respect from me, gents, cheers! P.s. Any thoughts on a vacuum process when finishing the wood handles?
Love this! A joy to see. Love your faces. Best of luck!
Great to see you back in the Montana shop!
i appreciated Alec geeking out on his employee's process, love to see it
Wow !! best of all Sam has a process that makes them very much still hand made. very cool.
This is AWESOME. I love handmade stuff and I love efficient manufacturing, so seeing handmade stuff being made efficiently is like a dream. Sam, have you heard of SMED? Single-minute exchange of dies, a principle of changing tooling as quickly as possible. It looks like one of the limiting parts of the process is changing all the dies between heat 1 and heat 2. The faster you can do that, the faster you can make hammers. Ideally though, you wouldn’t have to change dies at all and you could do all the forging with one die setup. If this is at all possible, you could dramatically increase flow and throughput in the forging stage.
Sam's living the dream way to go man incredible work and beautiful product. Not only would I love to have one of them hammers but wished I had that opportunity to work that job 👍
I like how the shop is set up for production and a bit of filming
