sometimes its dumb luck too. I bought a 2014 GTI in 2015 with 7,000 miles on it and immediately got an APR stage 1 tune done. Did all the maintenance at the proper times, rarely drove it hard, 80% all highway miles (90 mile commute to work) and the turbo blew at like 90,000 miles. Luckily I opted for the 100,000 warranty and got a brand new turbo system riiiiiight before the warranty ran out lol. I think I'll drive this until it rusts out or blows up then check out an S3, S4 or maybe even an S5

For what it's worth... I have a 2015 running e85 stage 2 /dsg tune by IE, and have tried to do any other non required mods I could to help protect it, a fear of mine is blowing it up, so far no real issues (little stuff pops up along the way as I've done the work myself), at 112k miles now, put over 30k of those myself, probably at least 5k miles since going to e85, have been daily driving and probably 30-40% of the time driving it like I stole it. Very very happy with the platform, once you open it up the car feels amazing, highly recommend, just have in the back of your mind something COULD happen (backup transportation is a GREAT idea lol)

The best thing you can do honestly is just maintain the car properly with the correct services and their correct intervals and you should be golden! These cars last if you maintain them correctly. Idt you have much to worry about but YES a daily is a nice thing which is another big reason I don’t worry as much because if something happens then oh well you know?

Thanks for sharing you journey and I really love this platform as well,, my favorite yet. I also daily my S3, for two years now, I put about 25K miles on it year, Im at 45K and I have not even had one check engine light come on, I just have basic bolt ons , stage 1 ECU/TCU (034 motorsports), which is an exceptional tune TBH, very underrated. I don't plan on going past stage 2 because I drive my S3 so much, Im looking to hit over 200K in the distant future. I drive my car hard, but don't beat on it if you know what I mean. Its also worth noting the EA888 Gen 3 in the S3/Golf R are not the same as the standard 2.0 T in the A3 Quattro, TTS, A4, etc, The S3 engine has an upgraded cylinder head, ( aluminum silicon alloy) which holds up better to the thermal stress upgraded rods and pistons, upgraded exhaust valves, exhaust camshaft, better piston cooling jets, higher flow HPI's, upgraded main radiator, gray cast iron crankcase.

I think that both ea888’s share the same block and bottom end, correct me if I’m wrong on this. At least both versions can handle good power😂

This cars are great, I daily my S3, year and a half and over 20k on my mid 400 hp Vortex, car is sitting at 83k and the only issue was the suction pump on the gas tank, besides that maintenance, I touch 31lbs in a daily basis.

@@G20T I do all my maintenance, pretty easy for me, the only pia is the haldex fluid, don’t know about the BMWs, the beamer is a nicer car for sure, however I like the awd and knowing that I gave a sleeper car, always in the track people takes me for granted.

For an exhaust and intake you do not have to tune the car. Obviously recommended as the car turns into a completely different animal once tuned

I do have upgraded LPFP and no sir the fuel level has been perfect on the gauge. It’s very easy to have the float arm get caught up in the wire when installing. gotta make sure the lever is free before wrapping up the install

Thanks bro! And tbh it seems a bit on the high side in price I would think $25k-$26k max with 80k miles. Also depends what year you’re looking at as a facelift model will be a bit more money

Bought a 2016 S3 in February with 66K miles for $23K for reference (Illinois). The sacrifice is no digital cockpit for me, but couldn't find one with those type of miles under $30K. I would also say that's a little pricey, as I've seen models for $28K with 50K miles. Best of luck and hope you find your S3.
