Yes, Anais not being in the show is a reference to the two child policy. Also, they tend to value boys quite a bit more than girls over there to the degree that they...'cancel' the baby when they find out it's a girl. The translation strongly hints at that.

The really sad thing is that Anais is legally the second child while Darwin is the family pet that came along before her arrival. It's just a coincidence that he happens to walk and talk like another child. Having him in the knock off was no big deal at the time it was created because the creator was well aware that he's the companion of an only child. Technically Anais could have gotten a copycat but the creator took advantage of the two child policy to change Darwin's copycat from "family pet" to "adopted son." This was an excuse to portray 2 "official" sons in the knockoff.

Now that I see it, I'm actually quite shocked the creator of the rip-off missed such an opportunity of swapping genders for the second child. Anais could have gotten a male version copycat if the ripoff had kept Darwin's copycat as the family pet.😮 There would have been a knowledgeable little brother for Gumball's copycat if the creator had thought it through.🤔

The funny thing is that the Miracle Star family's highest quality (Visual) appearance would be in an episode where they are being mocked by *the very show they're copying.*

I like to theorize that the Watersons doing increasingly more and more dangerous things could be commentary on how the show's writing and humor became more cynical and more satirical / going for more risky, darker jokes with each new season, and that "offing themselves" could be a metaphor for the show getting cancelled / taken off the air.

I like that they even mimicked the knockoff’s lower animation budget

Not only did Gumball's family get launched back into the truck with their seatbelts on was cool and interesting, but it was also hilarious

Bruh I love this episode so much. As someone who really doesn't like people doing things to hurt or copy other people, It's glorious how they fell of the bridge. I love at the end when Gumball says, "Uh, you guys good?" Then the truck explodes and Chi-Chi says "No" And then Gumball says, "Eh, good enough". I mean, all I can think when I watch that scene is, "Well, they deserved it, man. You can't say they didn't. Instead of yelling and turning them into the government, they gave them a lifetime's worth of humiliation and angry exposure. (Wow, I had a LOT to say)

"Women not allowed to celebrate in the Republic of People" made me laugh so hard! 🤣 I _love_ poorly-translated Chinese! "Doraemon" is translated as "Mechanical Cat Beast."

Gumball's copy being a goat completely misses the point of Gumball's design: he's a talking cat, so naturally he thinks the world should revolve around him. That's why he's so brash, and it doesn't hit the same with a goat. Conversely Darwin's copy being a frog is really clever but also really shallow. Its fundamentally the same design and explains how they could have the same backstory, swimming thing growing legs, but Darwin fits Elmore perfectly as a conceptual anomaly while having the emotional punch of evolving for his family in the first place. His copy being a frog removes that conceptual and emotional depth since growing legs is something frogs naturally do, and makes him really normal for someone from a place like Elmore. You could say Gumball has a tame design for Elmore too, but the absurd situations he gets into from his self destructive behavior makes him fit in regardless, behaviors that Darwin's copy doesn't have.

Funny how the episode ended with the voice actor change for Gumball and Darwin. Like... I cannot think of any other cartoon or show who did a voice actor change within the same episode like this. That is hilarious and incredibly original. Also, very funny how they made an even more obvious knock-off of the knock-off's characters.

I remember seeing "The Copycats" a long time ago and I found it to be a very interesting idea where a series makes funny of a rip-off from China. And, I'm not really sure why, but the ending where the copycat family falls off the bridge and their truck exploding was very satisfying to watch. Yes, I know that sounds like a cruel thing for me to say. Great video, by the way! :)

The perfect thing about the episode even if you never heard of the show copping Gumball a doppelganger plot is still funny.

It could've been a standalone funny episode but the youtubers had to make it known to everyone that miracle star existed, now that rip off show is probably more popular than it ever before was due to connections with this episode. Also the whole child policy thing seemed kind of like bs since darwin ripoff was a pet, and idk why they thought real life policies would apply to a cartoon show.

@@VYDEOS2 lol even if ppl watch one episode of teh knockoff, it's clearly not good so no one is staying. I don't see what's the issue with pointing out that there is a knockoff. it's great trivia. Are you going to watch that other show now? ok then. also, art imitates real life and vice versa. the crew probably didn't know why there was no sister but they tried to make a funny joke or speculate. a lot of times, real world policies or agendas/propoganda/influence, w/e are included in things like children's shows. and it's china. so it's even more believable.

This is why I love “The Amazing World of Gumball” I love how they acknowledged the knockoff in a lighthearted way. I know knockoffs are trash and they could’ve tore the knock off to shreds but they handled it nicely.

I really loved “Be Your Own You”, it was a fun musical number what with the Watersons trying in vain to have their copycats be more unique. Also liked the plot point with the copycats not having a third child. I’m surprised the show didn’t get banned from China after this, especially with the dig at their ½ child policy. I kinda wonder what an episode that made fun of Teen Titans Go’s episodes dedicated to making fun of critics would be like considering how they dissed Miracle Star. I’m guessing it could involve Gumball and Darwin watching a cartoon and its an episode making fun of the critics with Gumball and Darwin being genuinely confused, then annoyed when the next episode is also dedicated to mocking critics, and then jumping into the show to get the characters to do something that isn’t mocking the critics. This was a fun way to send off the second voices for Gumball and Darwin (Jacob Hopkins and Terrell Ransom, Jr.) the former actually voicing Fushi in the dub of To Your Eternity.

about the showering scene in the knockoff, that sort of thing (family members bathing together) isn’t as stigmatized as it is in western cultures. Bathing together like that isn’t that big of a deal in eastern cultures. There’s a lot of movies that show this.

When miracle star first aired the 1 child policy was still fully implemented until I think around 2 years later when it was changed to the 2 child policy. I assume that the knock-off Darwin is also a pet so he wasn't counted as an offspring of knock-off Gumball's parents.

The way they drew the imitators in the Gumball episode made them extremely adorable and loveable for a family of pirates

@Teen Titans Go Fan all the avengers are canonically in the same universe, so to call it a crossover would stretch the definition of the term

As a kid I knew about that copy and when the episode came out I was flabbergasted

What’s interesting is how Gumball made the character designs of Miracle Star look so much better in the crossover. Like how the mother has this light pale blonde hair instead of a typical brown and how the Frog has cyan skin instead of this neon green. I think they look a lot better aside from the father who goes from looking pretty different from Richard, to looking just like him.

I watched this episode with my niece and I checked because kids can't realize what's happening 😂 When the other family fell from the bridge because they couldn't have another kid I lost it, it was hilarious and the best way to destroy a copycat😂

Technically the rip off was allowed to have the little sister involved because she's legally the 2nd child of the family. The creator of the rip off took advantage of Darwin's copycat being a boy to later become the adopted son of the family after China legalized the two-child policy. It made sense for the little sister to not be involved while the rip off first became official because China still held the one child policy. The creator managed to get away with involving Darwin's copycat during that time because he's legally the family pet who just happens to walk & talk like another child.

The song from this episode was BRUTAL. HOLY SHIT. Darwin: “What you are doing is straight up criminal” *shoves bootleg Darwin to the ground* Gumball: “So just try and be original!” *rips off bootleg gumball’s face* Then the song ends with the whole family pushing the rip-off family into their car, saying: “get in your stupid car, and don’t come back! :D” which was then copied by the other family. That was funny asf

Shaggy see his copycats: Wow, Man! Look at that Guy! He's me man, Totally me! and there's another man! Gumball and Watterson destroyed their copycats I also realize that Fake Gumball's Eating Contest against Fake Richard is a copy of Lazy-off from The Laziest.

I remember seeing this episode and thinking wow it's got so many levels. I didn't know there was a copycat.

This is one of my favorite Anais episodes! Her intellect and morals are portrayed really well in other episodes, but this one really shows her response to not being included in an amazing way. It really shows how ruthless she can be when she's determined to get her way, and I think the only other really good episode that did that was The Remote (another one of my all-time favorites.)

This episode is so American. "Be yourself, be an individual". Preaching it all to a country full of leaders who won't stand for that. They made a beautiful message for people who may never see it due to the firewall.
