How GLUE Saved My Lotus From Being CRUSHED! Chassis Damage Fix
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
My Lotus Elise S1 had some significant chassis damage, normally this would mean crushing the car or buying a whole new chassis. But for the first time a Lotus Elise chassis has been fixed publicly. With the use of glue!!

Great job. Little does he realise, in years to come people will use this as a key reference video in how to repair an Elise chassis. :-)
Lovely to see the car back on the road, especially with a well thought out repair. What a lot of people don't realise is that the racing teams have been repairing Elises for years and they have been able to race them hard for several seasons after the repairs without ill effects. It may not be easy to repair the chassis and sometimes it may not look pretty but it is do able just as you have shown. Well done.

In a world gone mad, this is just a lovely bit of escape.
So glad you got it sorted Jack, looks like a good solid repair. I think this kind of repair will become more common and accepted in the future.
Wonderful post Jack! It looks like the Gents did a top notch job on fitting in the "Donor" Frame and your body work fitting it back together is going to be perfect once it's painted. Frankenlise and Influenzo may have seen better days long ago but they're both in the Category of "Their Best is yet to come!" Well Done Jack, I can't wait to see what's next for this gal! Stay Safe my friend. ❤🙏❤
Another great job Jack. Proves yet again that there is no such thing as "Can't be done". Any project we want to tackle is only limited by our imagination and of course the depth of our back pocket, but when you see the Elise before and after it's so worth it!
Jack's smile and enthusiasm is infectious. Vlogs get better and better.
Would’ve been epoxy decision not to fix it, this resin-ates much better.
I'm so pleased to see an update on this beautiful car. I love the colour of it. I just love to see your smile when things go right and you're driving again. 😁😍

Great news I’ve been waiting for updates on this lovely car.
Great journey! It was a thriller to see what would be uncovered next and even more so, how you would fix it. But besides the technical aspect of this project, I am amazed in how you mentally handle these set-backs with a positive attitude and unwavering optimism. Great job Jack! Have fun with your Elise. You have earned it!
I had forgotten you had this. Nice to see it back and on the road again.
Just for reference. There is a procedure described in the Manual to check the chassis integrity. If your bonded repair passes that test, then fine; some lasers would help.
Great to see the car saved. The extruded aluminium sections were bent and cured at temperature from what I recall from the TV program on the design and build of the Elise. A really neat process how they started making everything out of extrusions, even the pedals I believe!
Was great to meet you at Bicester yesterday - lovely to see both your cars- and thanks for taking the time to have a chat!
Really glad to see you've got the lotus chassis properly repaired......the broad smile on your face says it all!!
I’m so glad to see it repaired. The Elise is such a special car. I’m interested to know why glue was used rather than welding.
Looks like a great repair and really nicely done. Well done on saving it anyway.
Great, Jack - smiling like a kid in a candy shop!
Really enjoy all of your projects, and a lot of them are nearly getting there. Keep up the good work mate and a great videos.
Well repaired! Congrats for perseverance and quality work! Finding good craftsmanship becomes harder and harder on the continent, not so in the UK. Blessed the UK!
Great news Jack. Btw, please, please take your foot off the clutch pedal when you're not changing gear. The central divider should have a rest. Junks will probably have one.
Well done Jack for your perseverance, nice to see her back up and running 🚒👍
Good on you Jack for spending the money to fix up this car. Most people wouldn’t do it. I am happy to subscribe to your channel for your honest approach and good intentions.
Its alive! Great video Jack, really enjoyed it mate
What I took away from this is this. There will almost always be a solution to a problem. Good job, well done. 🙂👌
Wow what a transformation all your projects are getting better by the day
Well done,love your enthusiasm,all the best !
Great to see things worked out Jack! Not much gives the feedback of an S1. Keep smiling & driving! Hopefully you've given ideas/options to other owners to!
Well done persevering with this project. vehicle projects never finish when you estimate ( I know as I am currently 18 months behind on one project and 2 months behind on another).
Congratulations on getting her back on the road, was waiting for this video for a long time.
I’m super excited you got the Elise going they are sweet cars. I have a fiero that I’ve been working on restoring but I’ve kinda casually been looking for an Elise.

i only happened across Number 27 by chance a few days ago. So many motoring series are a bit Jaclk-the-Lad. Jack-the-27 is refreshingly different and I find myself even watching videos about cars which don't particularly interest me because the presentation is so good. Keep it up Jack.

Thanks buddy and hope you have something equally fun to enjoy!!
I used to work for the company which made the extruded parts for this chassis (and now the latest London taxi); the level of finish & cleanliness required on the individual parts is critical - Each batch has equivalent test pieces which are glued & then tested to destruction.
Really appreciate you showing us this work though I can understand why many keep it to themselves, possibly to avoid scrutiny from their insurance company !! Looks like a really robust job, well done.
Nice work Jack! That is a very Jolly car!
Super happy for you that you got the Elise back with its new chassis leg. I don't know how strong it is compared to an "intact" chassis, but considering it was driven with that scary damaged, strucural epoxy glue, rivets and everything. I mean premium / supercars and so on are built that way. The right adhesive can be super super strong, and the repair is beautiful. So happy to see that little Elise back too

Thanks Pete!! Obviously original is better but I’m happy this is now good enough to be safe! Def won’t fail under load. Not sure how it would behave in a crash though.. but I drive much older and less safe cars aniway so not worried!
Well done Jack, Enjoy!
Fabulous! The car looks amazing and glad the Permabond adhesive worked a treat. Great video. Hope you enjoy your motor :)
Well done Jack I'm pleased for you, keep the vids coming
Well done! I Fantastic job. I would have given up as soon as I saw the damage properly, gone in for a cup of tea and cried into it. I’ve just been watching a bunch of fancy KZreads about all sorts of immaculate exotica kept in incredible heated garages which are far more comfortable than my living room. What a load of shite! A bloke with a single garage and a heap of stubborn enthusiasm doing it himself is far more uplifting. This country was built by fellas like you - I take my hat off
Looks great Jack!
Glad you got it sorted elise is looking superb .
Your smiles says it all happy happy man. Nice Job 👍👍👍
Great news Jack and bravo for this brave fixing ! I seriously consider the sale of my 308 for an elise S1. It would be delightfull to watch a video of the comparaison between the original and continuation ;) (if you see what i mean)
Great to see! I think at some point a meet up with us fellow Elise owners from SELOC is on the cards! :-) You could also bring it to the Lotus in the Peak mega meet next year maybe which is organised by MLOC!
So pleased for you Jack! Enjoy your Lotus bud 😃
A step nearer to completing one more of your car projects, well done Jack,👍👍👍.
Great news Jack, Really please you got it back now, Very similar to the way my Dad repaired them, instead of glue n rivets....they would plug weld through the holes to hold back plates, and Tig weld the seams. They would put an extra bar across inside to make up for lost strength...They were getting write-off all the time....beeing small and low n often in dark green, purple, or black....!!! People would pull out n side swipe them.!! He did a strong honist repair and good money could be made. But that repair was criminal..!!! Great show top Channel.

@@Number27 Yes back in the 90's, One he had was so new it even had the dealer paperwork flung under the seat, some poor bugger must have written it off on pick-up day..!! In those days a fax would come in once a week with latest stock at the salvaged dealers, My dad would drop everything and rush out to put deposit on special cars like Lotus. We had a nice Disney holiday of the back of one he did. But yes it was done very similar way his partner Albert was very good Aluminium fabricator welder. He said the repairs done that way were incredibly strong and more than adequate for a car of that size n weight.. So your all good...(:
Nice thought out repair!! Happiness reigns!

Very happy for you, those glues are basically like soldering and I am shure it will be just fine!. It seems its the successor for the 308! I hope you wont have as much as you had to do on the 308. Cheers!!! Very very cool car!
Brave man, and assuming the repair process is safe, long-lasting and accepted by the Lotus tipo, well done for saving a true drivers car. Being open and honest with the work required, your now well known car can be enjoyed by other owners in the future, assuming the MOT police are happy.

@@Number27 It may be that when you come to sell the car, your YT channel could generate a lot of interest, as did Ratarossa's 360 when he sold it last year. Also, and you will know better than I, that many Elise are used as a track cars, which might appeal to someone - you may not get your money back but that is not your objective. Glad you got it back on the road, and who cares what people think!!!

The first S1s rolled out in July 1996 so they say... it was pretty slow going at first. I've only seen about six 1996 models for sale in the last 12 years (432 were made that year I believe). Mine's number 232 which rolled off the factory line October 31st 1996. It also happens to be the first S1 Elise imported in to Canada in October 2011 under the 15-year rule :)
