Whether its him or someone else that brings us a trophy, his work in the last few years will be admired for sorting our messy national team out. We've always had amazing players and now we are starting to get a good culture.

Even if you don't respect the man, at least respect the job he has done. Taking us from out of the group at WC2014 and losing to Iceland at Euro 2016 to a World Cup semi-final and a Euro Final, Gareth Southgate has done magnificently. Hope he sticks around for at least one more crack at the Euros.

What makes Southgate so good in this role is that he gets the environment this generation of players need from our national side. They honestly all look like they enjoy being together on England duty, a total pivot from the WAG-strewn, kliqs in the dressing room Golden Generation.

I have no idea why Southgate receives so much hatred. He is literally our second most successful manager ever. We used to dream of reaching semi-finals and finals, and in two shots, he has done it twice. Furthermore, in 2018 our team was not even good, and, our current squad, whilst very promising, is still young, and still nowhere near the quality we had 15 years ago... a team that achieved much less. I wish fans would realise what we have. Because if we go back to dark times after Southgate then fans will wish they had supported him more. We have it much, much better under Southgate than every other manager since 1966.

Because he's shown he has a single theory of how games should be won and no plan B, great man but questionable managing tactics. We had an easier route past few tournaments there's no denying it. Still backing Southgate but I do understand people's frustrations as well. Hoping for the best this tournament, come on England.

Easy brackets and generally boring football. He has brought the players together though, maybe that would have happened anyway after the toxic 'golden generaion' but I think he's definitely helped.

@@arthurballs9632 Do you actually think anyone looks back at winning the Semi-final with pride after the terrible management in the final? All 99% of people will remember is that we had home advantage when 1-0 up and Southgate did nothing. He made no changes and did nothing as Italy mounted the pressure and had more and more attacks. After Italy conceded them made 3 subs to change the game and it worked. Southgate did nothing to respond and just waited until we conceded. Then as soon as we conceded he made the changes he should have made before. He is the reason we lost the final. Not the players it was his fault we lost the final and I don't think he believes he did anything wrong or made any mistakes in his management of the game and his decisions when to swap players.

@@josephkerrigan733 it was the FA, Brent Council, the Mayor of London and the Met Police's handling of the security of the final that brought great shame on the nation. Whilst those numpties spent the days prior worrying about getting the Italians to kneel, and having an enormous tower block sized banner of the three players who coincidently missed their pens created, they overlooked providing adequate security for the biggest sporting event held here since 1966. But a cover up blamed the fans. Southgate's not perfect but no former England manger has has to deal with the interference from politicians that he's had to handle, and the unity he created in the squad couldn't have been done by anyone but him. He'll go down in history as a very successful England manger. You won't be remembered by anyone.
