I always wondered about the relationship between Al Davis and Mark Davis. I got the impression that Mark was kept at a distance, as though the relationship was bad or incomplete. There's a pejorative that comes to mind use to express that maybe he was closer to his mother than to his father, and I mean that in an objective way, not to demean him.

It happens all the time in the justice system. It does not mean either parties are satisfied with the outcome.

Racism is often subtle and hidden. The Gruden situation just isn’t comparable to R. Kelly or Harvey Weinstein. R. Kelly had managers and handlers who all conspired to bring young girls to him. There’s no conspiracy with Gruden. His words were limited to his addressees.

7:05 - we now mostly know the answer. When the league informed Mark Davis about the emails Mark was pretty much silent. At first. It’s my belief that the initial information bothered Mark but it wasn’t enough to just up and can Gruden. A couple days later when it was released he probably wondered in his head why the hell this was being made public now, before any investigation at all? When it all leaked, his hand was forced and he pushed Gruden to resign. Make of that what you may.

Hate that Gruden is being buried by people who know they've said things just as bad behind closed doors. Everybody has made mistakes if you dig deep enough.

Thrown away? He was forced to resign his power position for a high profile organization. He's free to find work in any field he chooses, just as his potential employers are free to hire him or not. My guess is he will never work for the NFL again, but it's possible, once the smoke clears, that he could get a local radio or podcast gig. If not, he can always get a job as the nightshift manager for a convenience store. He is free. As for his e-mails, it was beyond foolish of him, or anyone, to think they are private.

In that bit you're referring to, the guy who is about to use the N word, only does so when he feels comfortable enough in the situation. He is obviously with a group of white men, he looks around to see if anyone can hear what he's about to say, and then he goes for it. Gruden obviously felt comfortable enough to type out those e-mails and send them along. Right or wrong, he had to feel some level of comfort first.
