    Gruden was an excellent choice. Alot of people don't remember just how good that team was under Gruden. His final game as the Raiders head coach (until 2018) was against Bill Belicheck in the Tuck Game. The fact that Davis traded Gruden after watch Belicheck raise the Lombardi only to watch Gruden hoist it the next year shows that Al at that point in time was far too impatient. Should have stuck with Gruden and they likely would have won the Super Bowl in 2002

    It worked the best the 1st time around because Gruden was ONLY coaching...I think the 2nd time around woulda been better if Gruden didn't have total control...Gruden is a hell of a coach BUT...lowsy at drafting/player acquisition.

    Thank you for giving Gruden his proper due. And the reason why Al Davis traded Gruden to Tampa had less to do with impatience, and everything to do with his jealousy over Gruden getting the love that he got from the fans.

    In other interviews she mentions she and Gruden didn’t talk much, and she didn’t think much of Bill Callahan has HC. But they all seemed to do their job well enough to build us a winning team for several seasons.

    Unless he had the foresight at the time to draft a then unknown tom brady, I don't see how belichick would've been a better pick than Gruden? Belichick sucked entirely in cleveland, and has sucked in new england without brady. Gruden won a lot with the raiders in his first stint there. Then he got tampa over the hump, and, in spite of what the haters will say, he had the raiders playing respectable football during his second time there. Yeah, the first year was rough. But then things got better each year after. And he did all of this with QBs (gannon, johnson, carr) that, on their best day, nobody would mistake for brady on his worst.

  • @miketemple7686

    Al did Belichick a favor by not hiring him. No way he could have created a dynasty under Davis. Davis just didn’t have the patience. Unlike Kraft, that man had the patience to allow Bill to be Bill.

  • @thedude777OP
    @thedude777OP4 ай бұрын

    One minute in and she already sounds like shes trying to say she saw him for what he currently is, and that maybe true because nobody now wants Bill. For obvious reasons. Bill, in reality was all Tom, granted Bill was a good defensive coach but the offense of the Patriots was all Tom. Could Bill have been a great defensive coach? We don't know and will more than likely never know now because of his current situation. In hindsight we all need to understand that Al understood football, until his later years, and everyone makes mistakes. Gurden became a good choice for that team in that monent. I honestly don't think the Raiders would've been able to do anything will Bill because of who he is.

    Rich Gannon wasn't the QB, Jeff George was the QB and Al had a man crush on him. Bill would have loved Rich more because of his FEARLESS no nonsense. As I always say when he took those video games way and pool balls he was flirting with danger. A lot of Raider defensive players were collectively the most idiotic in the league, not to mention usually the biggest. Bill would have liked that discipline and fearlessness.

    So winning 2 Super Bowls (XXI & XXV) as Defensive Coordinator for the NY Giants is losing? Belichick has 8 rings (1 more than Brady!). However, 100% agree w/ Amy the 2 of them were exponentially more successful together - 6 rings over 2 dynasties.
