You can burn Mario faster in Super Mario World. There is a secret area in Yoshi's Island 3 that contains lava.

Got to admit Mario games have had an absurdly high history of really high quality games including their spinoffs/side games

For someone who’s conjured fire himself, Mario isn’t protected against it very well.

You did realize, correct, that in Yoshi's Island 3, there's a bonus level that has molten lava in it, accessible at about 3:35 via a yellow pipe underneath Mario that you missed? You could've shaved a whole minute and some change off of your Super Mario World 1 time!
