What makes Point Nemo even more eerie is that, because the point is within the South Pacific gyre, the circular currents prevent more cooler rich nutrient waters from entering, as a result, there would be nothing to sustain any wildlife at all.. so basically, not only would the closest people to you be on the ISS, there'd also be no sharks, no fish, no plankton.. just you, alone out there, sourrounded by nothing but water as far as the eye can see

One point of correction needs to be made about the nearest island to Tristan Decuna with an airport. The Brits built an airport on the highlands of Saint Helena and opened it in 2016. It has been temporarily limited because of Covid 19, but it will be reopened in a few months to general air traffic from South Africa.

Actually it’s 15 days because no ships that are capable of good speed have been there as they were not in any rush. Remember back in the ocean liners era, the latest ocean liners were capable of crossing the Atlantic in 4 days. During an emergency, a rescue would be done using a faster ship. Perhaps 3 days for a rescue if done by boat.

For some odd reason, I found this quite depressing. 😔

Near the end of this i got a big flash back to camping: we use to sit in the field and watch the space station go over and when it was dark enough we set fire work off work them, no idea if they saw it but.. damn. I miss camping in the early 2000s. NASA was a big thing back then when I was 4 or 5 y.o and yeah camping and setting fireworks off for the astronauts was a BIG thing back then
