HOW EXPENSIVE IS MY PORSCHE CAYENNE TO RUN?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After completing over 500 miles in a week in my new to me 955 Porsche Cayenne, how expensive has it been to run?

    Just bought one myself a 2006 S. Already have a speed sensor playing up so having to get car recovered next week to fix as I can’t drive it 🙄. Love the videos Joel. Oh and forgot to mention my car also appears to have a leak into the boot spare wheel compartment ffs

    @@J1charlto check the drains, if you have sunroof. There will be 6 and they block super easy (1 in each wheel well) and two in the boot. Sadly there’s no such thing as a cheap Cayenne. Mine was (inflation adjusted) £150k in 2006. It has the same running costs as when it was new. E.g it’s off for a gearbox, diff & transfer case service next month = £1k 💸

    Good luck with yours Joel…my turbo has been in bits over Christmas but was perfect for a year. Parts are silly at Porsche but they are great cars. Remember…. You are driving the saviour of the brand! Without the Cayenne there would be no 911’s… Porsche was going skint until its success…... I went in the local showroom today (to collect more parts) and sat in the new one. Oh my lord. What a difference to my 957. I still prefer the rugged exterior look of the 957 to the new soft and rounded Cayenne of today but a test drive in a new one on your channel would be excellent. 😊

    Regarding the indicator issue, first get yourself some electrical contact cleaner and spray both the headlight end and the wiring loom end. Secondly check the wiring loom end female connections for a bent contact and straighten any bent contacts, that’s most likely the issue when you get an intermittent fault. The headlight units are notorious for leaking and it’s very unusual to find a headlight unit without silicone bathroom sealant around the outer edges. I recently had to replace both headlight units and xenon control ballast units costing £1200 per headlight and £600 per ballast, after discount at Design 911 this was £3200 as both the control units were full of water. So while you are performing the easy task of removing the headlights check inside all the covers for signs of damp and road dirt (as you can see around the outside of the unit you removed in this vid. My old headlight units both had enormous silicone pouches in them to absorb moisture and ropey silicone around the edges. Regarding your fuel costs the range you get is quite amazing, I have the 957 (facelift of your 955) Turbo S and the same amount of fuel gets me a maximum range of approximately 355 miles which turns out to be a practical range of around 290 miles. I live around 25 miles from Chelmsford in Essex and a run to and from Chelmsford will do around a 5th of a tank in total. The fuel gauge visibly depletes as you drive but the needle dropping and the 0mpg on the dash under acceleration still makes me smile. Regarding headlight removal: The bolt you indicated when you removed your headlight should be one of the mounts for the tray which the headlight sits in. The recessed socket about 1 inch above that should be what your headlight removal tool fits into, it’s a male tool fitting into a female socket on the car. Also I had to replace both these trays when I changed the headlights because they have plastic arms (think of gesturing scissors with your fingers) which go either side of the metal bar which you rotate to remove and fit the headlight. Both trays had snapped arms on the refitting side so the old lights had to be rammed home which could explain why your forum informant suggested doing so. Obviously sucking up the cost of replacing both headlights and ballasts I decided to replace both mounting trays at the same time as it’s only a couple of hundred pounds extra. If you nip these headlight issues in the bud you will save yourself a lot of money, the things I have described above are preventative maintenance and the headlights are extremely easy access but Porsche parts come with a premium so look after them as best you can. Having said that when it comes to replacing other generic parts check to see if VW also make them for the Toe Rag or Audi Q series because the parts are identical but the cost is way cheaper. Consider the Lamborghini Murcielago which uses mk1 Ford Focus side repeaters, the Ford parts are £10 each, to buy the same from Lamborghini (in clear) your looking at £hundreds. Just keep that in mind.

    I had a 2007, 4.5 v8 Cayenne S, Was a great car, bought with 12 months warranty at 70k miles with full service history, most of which was done by porsche. I found the rear lights would get condensation in them and I had a similar issue as you with the indicators. Seemed to resolve that issue with some contact cleaner though. Suspension was great, handled And went brilliantly and sounded fantastic but understandably hard on tyres and brakes. Was getting about 22mpg too. 4wd worked well in the snow in the winter and was just like a normal car to drive but... It started using a little bit of engine oil, possibly a cylinder bore issue, (which is a known problem) and the torque converter seal was leaking 😢 It needed those things checking at 77K miles as well as discs, pads and tyres so with the warranty having just expired and major engine work needed - sadly, I decided to let it go. Would I have another? Definitely! but the 4.8 GTS with the nikasil coated cylinder bores which are known for much better reliability. Without doubt, one of the best designs ever for a headlight to work on.. Almost genius and more manufacturers could learn from it!

    I recently had an brake light issue on my 2005 Toyota, where by sometimes the passenger brake light wouldn’t be working for a day or two, then suddenly it would, it was just intermittent, so I got the bulb out, I noticed the little coil bit was bent, and barely touching the little bit of metal that it should be attached to(compared to a new bulb) so I fitted the new bulb, not had a problem since. I always thought a bulb would either be working, or broken and need replacing. I learnt something new!

  • @eddherring4972
    @eddherring49727 ай бұрын

    Regarding the manual setting reverting to auto, it will do that if for example you stop in an unsuitable gear or if you use the buttons to change then after a while it reverts to automatic. Or if there’s no input for a certain amount of time. It’s an automatic car and it’s trying to save you the effort of changing gear, after all the likelihood of you changing gears like a rally driver in rural Bucks is highly unlikely.

    The perforated box next to the CD changer is more likely to be the audio amplifier than the sat nav. It doesn't matter unless you're planning on unplugging it though.

  • @eddherring4972

    @eddherring4972

    7 ай бұрын

    Cayenne sat nav should be in the location Joel indicated. Certainly the Bose amp is tucked right up bolted on a small shelf above the multichanger, it’s a complete pig to remove as you have to take off the window pillar trims, the cargo area roof lining has to come down and the press fit fittings are very delicate and then some to get to it, you’re looking at a couple of hours plus to remove as it has to be done extremely carefully, its quicker to refit as the fittings just push home.

    I don't think these are necessarily less reliable than other cars but what people mean about running costs is simply for routine maintenance stuff. I think you'll get a shock when you come to replace items like tyres, break discs and pads, auxiliary belt, shock absorbers, spark plugs and the like. Even an oil service requires 7L of engine oil. Anyway, enjoying a car makes it worthwhile.

    The indicators look like they have a similar issue to the E53 X5 - it's the housing for the indicator bulb, the contacts no longer make solid contact, you can bend the tabs out slightly to make a tighter fit. there should be 2 metal tabs either side where you put it into the headlight housing and turn it.
