I think he uses the word "guilt" when he means several different things, especially shame or remorse or even insight. Guilt can be (and most often is) attached to misperception. Remorse is acknowledging a true perception and accepting responsibility.

Naturally skinny people have no idea how hard it is to restrain oneself from indulging because they never even tried to restrain. When I was naturally skinny in my childhood to teenagehood, I would assume that fat people simply gorge themselves because they are mentally lazy as f*** and just want to be disgusting. But I DID gorge myself and ate always untill I felt painfully over- stuffed yet I was skinny. So, I did the same thing - stuffed my face and yet assumed that I was NOT lazy as f*** simply because my body stayed skinny. I was really blessed I could gorge without consequences. So I had no idea that this blessing would come to an end at around the age of 13. Once I hit puberty and stopped growing in height, I noticed my belly slowly changed. By the time I was 16 my belly was protruding and thighs became too thick and I could not figure out why because I didn't suddenly change my eating, but my figure somehow changed. I thought my figure shouldn't change because I ate as I alwayd did throughout my life - until I was painfully stuffed! Later I learned that I was blessed in the first place - blessed that I had such free-all-you-can-gorge time and still stay skinny .... because there are other people who naturally lose that easy time by the age of 5 already (when they are still kids). And yet they are those, who never lose that easy-no-effort time and stay skinny forever (those are a very small minority though). But the latter, the luckiest of all, exist and they they are the ones who have no idea how agonizingly hard it can be to resist bodily cravings. Resisting sometimes can feel like torture: like trying not to breathe at all and staying happy at the same time. I discovered that I'm an addict when it comes to sweets and I was simply lucky to be able to indulge and gorge without consequences until 13. Today, I maintain a very healthy weight, but I eat consciusly and responsibly, caarefully planning the majority of my meals. I was lucky for awhile, but I'm not lucky any more. The good thing about it is, at least, now I can understand alcoholics who stay away from alcohol in order to stay sober. I won't temp them with alcoholic beverages just because I never crave alcohol and I effortlessly drink in tiny amounts. I am genetically lucky with alcohol because I never really crave it nor enjoy it too much. But those who have genes, which biologically predispose them to intense cravings, react differently - they are trying excruciatingly hard to drink little and to stay sober, and frankly, I can never understand how hard it is for them. Who am I to judge them for the lack of will if I myself have never experienced that kind of internal insatiable drive to drink more and more? But having had to struggle with food, I get perspective at least. Also, the weight gain changed my perspective on the overweight people themselves, especially children. Kids are dependent on their environment and their environment is such, that it makes them vulnerable to becoming addicted to processed food. Halloween and Christmas parties are all about processed foods! We should change those holidays to be not around candies but around fun games or around fun dance....! Giving tons of candies to a baby is no different than giving them tons of cigarettes. But the culture and society hasn't caught up with dangers of sugar-laden foods and perilously promote them everywhere, even in hospitals......:((
