Yes, but I think both the Prequels and the Sequels were too on-the-nose with it at times. Such as when Anakin blows up a ship, and when Anakin gets his arm cut off. For me, the poetry repetition works when it is more subtle.

This is exactly why I've always said that episode 7 should have had the bad guys as "rebels" in clanky and old ships. The Republic should have been large and new and imposing, but vulnerable to the guerilla and terroristic tactics of the rag-tag remnants of the Empire and whatever ominous power was guiding them. The series needed another inversion, not a rehash of episode IV.

I fucking hated that in the new trilogy so much. Why is the first order so powerful, it makes no sense? They should be more equivalent to something like a terrorist group like Isis as this order is just the remnants of a dead empire and they are primarily centered in the unknown regions of space, so they should be small enough to run from big battles but deadly in guerilla warfare and terrorism. It makes me so mad.

yeah it would also make sense since the empire was literally defeated.. also it would have been cool if the "bad rebeles" would have worked throughout the movies to make a revolt climaxing in a huge "civil war"/uprising at Coruscant in the final film, it would also be an interesting idea to explore about how maybe the new republic has issues and there is some justification for an uprising.. uhh instead we just got nothing original and another rebels vs empire, and Coruscant didn't even show up despite it being one of the main planets

@@2QAYL1138 "I mean, if he can extract as much value as he has from even The Phantom Menace," This channel (IMO) is analysing the meaning in Lucas' choices. Since the sequels take a few of Lucas' ideas, and rehash the OT, while largely *undoing* many of the ideas in the PT and OT, I don't really see what there is to give "due respect" to. While the actors tried to carry what they were given, and the writers/directors had to work within the restrictions they were given, at the premise level the sequels are undeniably cynical. But since the channel doesn't "just parrot narrative" about the OT or PT, but gives insights beyond the obvious, I would expect you will find the sequel discussion will also go beyond the obvious. Since you imply it takes effort to find value in TPM, I suspect it may be a little beyond you.

I agree. Film authorship isn't always as easy to suss out as authorship for things like books. Part of that is because of how collaborative most movies are, and part of it is because people try to assign the creative driving force to a specific job title, even though that isn't always where it lies-and those titles are often more defined by unions and industry bureaucracy than any actual creative contribution anyway.

This is classic "Empire is better than A New Hope" sentiment. I know you didn't come here looking for an argument, but accusing Star Wars '77 of being merely a "fantasy adventure romp through space" and then going on to declare Empire to be the "expansive universe to be explored indefinitely" is just the weirdest consensus I've ever heard of (regarding entertainment franchises anyway!). TECHNICALLY both movies are just "kids stuff/adventure stories" but, getting back to taking it all too seriously... It's completely the other way 'round! Empire is the romp and Star Wars built the foundation! Star Wars '77 is the movie that did this "expansive universe" stuff - Empire doesn't even work without Star Wars to set the stage. That's why it's a fine sequel - but not a really good movie. I'm forever baffled!

@@VirtualSG ANH is either my first or second favorite SW movie, depending on the mood (I just love the epic tragedy of ROTS, it's really unique among the scifi/fantasy/cbm blockbusters). IMO the original has the best plot to date, masterfully handling both the personal and political plot. I was always fascinated by the glimpses of the larger world such as the Senate, the rebellious systems, the factions within the Imperial military (pro or against the "technological terror"), the governors vs. the elected Senators, the underworld (why didn't Han deliver the credits to Jabba after the battle of Yavin?). Most of it is either gone or underdeveloped in TESB. It basically becomes a story of both the Jedi and the Sith trying to manipulate Luke into doing what they want him to do so that their side wins. I know many fans dislike the politics in the prequels but I personally find them fascinating and would've loved to see more of it - like who are the Separatists, are all of them really bad or maybe they're simply tired of the corruption in the Republic? And aren't the Jedi and the Senate the ones who actually start the war in the first place?)

Maybe, but what exactly to you condense? Just about every scene has a purpose and connects to something being established. You can't cut the murder/romance because you need to establish the villains are still out there plotting revenge and the relationship of Anakin and Padme (which is pretty important in a saga about family). You can't cut the politics or the Kamino stuff because all of that establishes the upcoming war. That's the movie George wanted to make and I respect it. I already knew Lucas was a genius, but you opened my eyes to deeper themes that give me a greater appreciation for his mind and Star Wars. Great video, and subscribed!
script on point, crisp editing, great music and fantastic ideas. This channel literally brings tears to my eyes, the mirroring sequences in the end were beautifully done. Binged all videos and starving for more! What a channel!
Yes! I was wondering when you are going to tackle Darth Disney's Star Wars. I'll be watching your channel with great interest in the coming months.
It's more that meets the eye..
I grew up loving Star Wars. This channel has just made me appreciate it on a whole new level. Please, PLEASE don't stop producing content!
I had never before looked at the original series and the prequels as a massive example of chiasmus. Beautifully constructed critique/analysis!

Just learned a new word -- thanks!
It's funny, attack of the clones and empire strikes back have always been my favorite parts because they completely changed my perspective on the galaxy they inhabit, warping expanding my preconceptions of that specific reality by taking me along to "the other side", whichever that one was for that part.
Just found this channel earlier today and was pleasantly surprised by another upload! Beautiful videos my friend, keep them up!
The way I like to imagine Empire, is Starwars thats one big fever dream. In a way its what it is, it leaves you so mezmerized with questions and character moments that are so earned you want to go back for that euphoric experience. Ironically, when I was 4, my first time watching this movie was when I was sick with a horrible fever/infection, and my father put Empire on fo me to watch on the original VHS. I didn't know if it was me tripping out from the medicine and me nodding in and out of sleep, but I remember just how different it was from what I was use to.
Dude, never known anyone to have such a good and deep understanding and analysis of Star Wars. I love your content.
Don't drop the quality of your videos. Right now everything on your channel is good and that's a streak you wanna keep. Editing is important and I really like the way everything is fluent. It makes the video video more immersive and professional. Right now I'd be a fan.

6:47 gosh dang that was a smooth edit
This channel rocks. High-quality Star Wars content from day 1.
Thank you for making me like the prequels even more.
ive been telling people the prequels were genius, thank you for taking the time to clarify why
With each video, you further my love, curiosity, and enjoyment of Star Wars. Thank you
I've been looking forward to this
You have the perfect voice for these type of video. I’m excited for more.
This is amazing, I love this video essay and this channel deserves more views
May I request that you briefly cover Padme's death? A lot of people make fun of it, yet I think her death is quite reasonable, considering what she went through.
you have made me think of star wars in an entirely new way it is amazing how many layers of complexity this story truly has, and how the story alone being so complex at times you miss the nuance of the art of film making itself its amazing
Huh neat i just subbed and a few minutes later i get a notification

Criminally underrated
Honestly amazing and interesting video, Just liking and commenting to boost the algorithm 💪
I was expecting a video on *just* The Empire Strikes Back! I *LOVE* how you intertwine George Lucas’ Prequels in with the Originals- it feels so interconnected and the expanse of the story is mind blowing. *This* is Star Wars 💖I love these movies so much! Just watched ALL your videos and tried to leave a comment on each one. I look forwards to your future content eagerly.
George Lucas was able to make his movies “rhyme” without simply rehashing what he had already done. The sequels just copied and pasted from the OT without giving us anything new.
Great video. Can’t wait to see what’s next
Just came to this after your anti-trilogy video. You have earned my sub with the point you made starting at 4:43. That wowed me.
I’m not complaining that this guy covers Star Wars, but it’s be cool to see his takes on other media.
"I've been looking forward to this." Amazing video as usual. Maybe after the Sequels you can make a Rogue One video? I will be there for it all!

you could probably just do that and solo in the same video. also, would you consider making reviews on the tv shows star wars has made, starting with the 2003 clone wars show?
Are you going to continue making Star Wars videos after going through the saga? Analysis like yours on Star Wars and film in general is sorely needed on KZread

One of the best SW videos I've seen on KZread, awesome job.
I've been a Star Wars fan for almost 30 years, and your videos keep making me feeling dumb. Because of all the subtle brilliance that I never noticed in these movies. This made me see Attack of the Clones in a completely new light. This is the most underrated, undersubcribed, underappreciated KZread channel I've seen in years. Thanks YT algorithm for doing something right for once (discovered this channel in my recommended recently).
A video from this channel was everything I needed for this day.

This is such a great video marking unique points that I’ve never thought of. Your script was also concise and marketed your points well. Great job with the editing and mixing of the vocals and music together. I subscribed Dude, you deserve more subs!
This is the greatest Star Wars content on KZread
Excellent video essay! This is the second video essay I’ve seen from this channel and I love the what you have to say about the role inversion plays in the Star Wars Saga! As far as the most important moment in the Star Wars Saga, the way you end this video makes me excited to see what you have in store.
Man, I adore your video essays! Can't wait to see your channel grow!
YES! It's finally here! While Empire is not my favorite Star Wars movie, I still really love it. And it's impressive how well everything came together in the final cut. And now I'm curious what you have to say about Return and the Sequels, I'm especially curious what you think about The Last Jedi.
This is one of my favorite breakdowns of TESB so far. And I've seen and read a lot. :-)
Yoda saying “wars not make one great” and calling back to prequels is brilliant. It put’s some great character growth on what most people assume to be a completely static character. It proves that Yoda is truly wise and learns.
Dude, your video essays are the best!!!!!! I love your videos so much, they are just so well written, and talk about things I never even thought of before. You just make the best videos!!! Keep up the good work!!!!

Comment for thé algorithm gods! Love your style, spot on editing
I just discovered this channel and it's perfect in every single way, it takes masterful editing and soundtrack coordination and applies it to Star Wars.; something that time and time again proves that simple editing and soundtracks make Star Wars the epic that it is. I will be watching your career with much intrest.
4:12 I'm amazed at how Lando can speak without moving his mouth very much.
Man I love you. Thanks for making these videos they make me feel good
damn, another masterpiece! I never noticed this x'D I got chills I reaaally like the style and content of your vids, keep it up and evolving!
"Wars not make one great" Voice of experience, that.
You are really really good at what you doing!! Just keep those vídeos coming because I just can't stop waiting for more content. You deserve more and I already showed your Channel to a lot of friends of mine!! Good work, man!
In my opinion Episode II is the most underrated Star Wars movie of them all. It is probably the most daring of them all, being a mystery/spy movie, as well as a romance at the same time. It may not execute all of its ideas perfectly, but its themes, scope, and everything it brought to the series should be appreciated.
