Hello, Curtis and Nathan, my name is William and I'm a main mid laner in BR server. I just want to say that you guys helped me achieve my dream in league and I am so so grateful for everything you do for our community! I've been trying to hit Diamond for 4-5 years but I've always ended up stuck in plat 4. Due to my anxiety and toxic habits, I never thought I could actually get there. I used to blame my teammates, I used to play around 2k soloq games for season, I had two perma-banned accounts due to negative behavior and my self-sabotage used to be my worst enemy. I had no idea what I could do to improve and neither believed I could improve. But then I started therapy in 2019 to understand my thoughts, behavior and emotions and in the meantime I found Curtis' channel. I immediately related to him! I've never been so happy to see someone as passionate about mages as I am. I watched all of your content (especially the one about psychology) and then you guys started this amazing podcast and I've been watching you since the first episode. Well, I'm so glad to share that last week I got Diamond for the first time playing my favorite champion Zoe!! I've grown a lot ever since I found you guys! You teach me patience, discipline, process, focus and so many important lessons that I'm carrying in my life. Thank you so much for your videos! Please keep up the good work! I hope that everyone reading this know anything is possible if you don't give up, go into details and follow the process! You guys are amazing! ❤

Respectfully, I think Nathan got a bit confused about what was the topic of a hard champ in this specific scenario. Because the conversation started with saying the new champion was really straight forward ( mechanically easy). And then the conversation moved to Diana, and he ended up saying she is "hard" because you need to know when to go in and positioning. But 1) the new champion will be the same, you will have to know when to go in or you will die. 2) I don't feel like you can say a champion is hard because of positioning. You will die on adc if positionned wrong. You will not find success on a peel enchanter sup champ if you go to deep and position wrong. Positioning is important no matter who you play in league of legends. So just going back to my initial point. The topic was, who's an assassin ( like the new one), that is MECHANICALLY easy to play. Because the likes of zed and Akali, are really mechanically complex and intensive( on top of positioning). Diana, like the new champion, are straightforward easy champion in terms of mechanics, but than knowing when to go in, positioning and decision making will make these champion hard in a different way( but not mechanically). Anyway, my small input, cause I felt the conversation was a bit confusing since mechanically hard and other aspect got mixed up. Keep up the good work! Cheers.

I find the Vex hate so shocking because I view her as such a utility orientated champ instead of a strict assassin. An empowered E is as useful as half of the champions in the games ultimate's when used properly in a teamfight. She's my favorite champion because I love poking people down with E+Q, I see her through the lens of a control mage who has the flexibility to be an assassin when it's needed. The creativity aspect is why she and Asol are my mains.

You had me up until the Very end. There are some (newer) champions that just have completely dogshit designs and completely lack healthy counter play and the only way to keep them in check is to nerf them into the ground. By this I mean, generally, they lose because they mess up, not be you outplayed them. - the lack of counter play for so many new champs is disgusting.

Regarding the discussion you were having about doubling down on a fundamental and how you can’t really compensate for other skills (minute 56), I definitely agree that you can’t completely ignore some fundamentals and just rely on one skill alone. That being said, the way I interpreted the Reddit comment is that he’s trying to simplify the identity that the player should have when playing the game which is often times champ dependent but can also be player dependent. For example, I’m a player that likes to scale so I tend to play champions like Jinx, Vayne and my plan is always survive, avoid unnecessary fights, get to my items, and carry late. So I believe the advice is identify what part of the game you enjoy, pick the champs that fit that playstyle, and play to their identity and often you’ll find if you enjoy this playstyle, you will perform better at it. Tldr: if you like farming play scaling, if you like skirmishing play early game duelers, and if you like strategy, play supportive roamers (Galio, shen, etc). Love love love the podcast, been listening nonstop for the last 7 months.

Ive been playing Wild Rift since about launch and its the first time ive taken rank and my performance in a MOBA game seriously in my 10 years of playing. Ive made it to D4 in Jungle and hit a wall. Coaches like Neace and players like Darkbreaker made me feel like i was justified in my belief that the game was out of my control. Since then i came to an acceptance after talking with ex casters that i just didnt know the game the way i thought i did. I swapped to mid and began to climb to learn the role and planned on doing the same with all roles. Thats how i found yall and have been blown away by the amount of learning i had ahead of me. Shok is another OCE mid laner that has in depth discussions on low elo champion pools although I think they would disagree about a couple of options.

A couple of thoughts 15 min in: I think people want versatility with their champions because it's essentially just a form of compensation when you do things incorrectly. So if you went in but didn't get a kill because you for example focused the wrong target, then you can still get out without needing to reflect why it was bad or went wrong. Also on the Diana vs Yasuo, Diana can absolutely 1v1 Yasuo once she gets her first core item, because she outscales him in terms of raw stats per level. He wins pre-6 in the early trades, but as long you're not behind after that, you win the matchup every time. So I think it's weird that people have this notion that Diana is bad into Yasuo because she's not. She can't take early trades well because as an AD champion he will do more damage than you can do to him, but you can still whittle him down with your Q and fish for an all-in once you're 6. It's like Garen into Darius or something like that. Bad early laning but outscales as the game goes on. So I think the question "how do I deal with Yasuo as Diana?" seems to be a fundamentally wrong question to ask to begin with. You don't "deal" with Yasuo as Diana in the early stages of the laning phase. Your job is to survive until you get your core item and then you can 1v1 him easily.

Hello Nathan and Curtis. You said in the episode that you don't believe in one fundamental compensating for other fundamentals. However, do you believe in limiting fundamentals, such as you can improve in several of them but if you don't improve the One (let's say CSing for instance), you can be stuck in your level of play ?

As a top laner, I always felt like the whole minimizing deaths thing should be more controversial than it actually is. I've actually found my improvement process to be MUCH better following Baus's ideology that top laners are broken with the type of champ and XP lead they have, and can make plays against other lanes even when behind, so top laners that are behind should be the playmakers for their team and playing more risky than normal because they don't give up as much gold if they die, and their team can claim bounties in response.

Basically what Curtis & Nathan ended up agreeing on is that focusing on a very key aspect of the champion you play can and will be greatly beneficial; for example, Malzahar's R is pretty much the entire champion, his whole identity revolves around it, hence focusing solely on having great quality R's on him will probably get you to gold. However, they do not think this applies to fundamentals, as focusing on solely ONE fundamental is impossible because fundamentals are intertwined. For example, you can't "farm the enemy" if you can't trade, you can't trade if you can't manage the wave, and you can't manage the wave if you can't cs properly.

I was watching your video on neace. I find his coaching stuff useful (ive always avoided his gameplay/personal vids) but ive never really vibed with his attitude. the issue is I dont know who else to watch. He uploads constantly, for multiple roles. and other coaches arent doing that. Eg curtis uploads twice a month on main channel and 0 in 5 months on the MLA (and i dont even play mid often). While Nathan coaches jungle (the role I dont play) I dont really use twitch or other streaming sites but i dont mind watching coaches vods on other sites as well as youtube. I play mainly supp/ADC and flex top if i need. Do you recommend any coaches? (Specifically coaching not just gameplay). (also if anyone sees this comment please suggest people to watch!)

Vex is my second most played this season and it feels like she's just frequently so underwhelming. The highlight is getting resets and chaining into a triple kill or more. The low point is missing the initial ult and literally nothing happens. Its feels worse than dying, you're just sitting there like "what do I even do with my life now". One thought I had as they were talking that I would bring up if I was on the design team: make the ult reset on any takedown after you hit it, not just the hit target. Would open up some cool plays and make the champ less one-dimensional.

Like it would just have to click with you but that’s rare for people. For the most people you have to grind the game to learn but on the flip side I have a friend that grinds the game 800-1k games a season but because his mental is so bad he doesn’t climb

I want to add on a bit to the part where you talk about the guy who felt like he had peaked in gold. I understand what you're talking about when you mention disrespect for the game, but it always sounds a bit harsh, and makes you seem elitist. I agree with you, but I think some different wording and perspectives vould be useful. Something i think worth adding is that because the game is so hard, you need to be a lot less hard on yourself if you don't improve quickly. I don't think people are in despair because they in particular lack respect for the game, but rather a lack of respect from the community at large leads to bad self-esteem when you're not improving at this game the community think is easy. Would love to hear you expand your thoughts about the phrase "respect for the game" and what that means to you when you say it. Big fan of the podcast!

i think the problem people have that its just another "press all the buttons = win" champion. A stat-check champion that doesnt outplay, but rather just asks you "did you go in at the right time? if yes, you win the fight". Look at her kit, its so boring. 2 similar dashes, lee sin Q and the most boring ulti ever. Its literally just "me get stats". Like a fighting game install super, just less exciting. Thats just... lame. Could have done so much more with the concept of a pack of hounds hunting together, the dogs might as well just be stacks that give you damage.

@@ich3730 I can understand that criticism, but I'd like to make a counterpoint. The game has a lot of assassins already, and nearly all of them are flashy show-off type champions. Aside from Evelynn, I can't really think of an assassin that's mechanically simple to play, and for new players at least that is kind of a problem. So as long as the champion is balanced then I'm fine with having a simple and straightforward AD assassin in the game because we kinda didn't have one before.
