I agree with others here. You influenced me to buy my 2022 sea to sky. I feel excited everyday the weather is good because I am going on a ride. I feel bummed when I can’t. I have become a cold weather warrior riding at a brisk 25 degrees just to get that good feeling of freedom on the road. I am cradled in my helmet and gear becoming one in the elements seeing things I have never seen before. I get so many questions from folks and when my dog rides with me many pictures. It brings such warmth to my heart when I see others smile at the joy I am sharing. I have received minor snubs from other riders yet on the most I feel included on the two and three wheel ranks. Overall I feel a wonder of enjoyment experiencing the world around me when riding solo, with my wife or daughter. Owning a spyder has become a life altering experience connecting me to the world in such ways I have never experienced before. Thumbs up to you coach Bob for sharing your passion and giving us a glimpse of this love us spyder riders feel.

Have had positive comments from lots of people when we’re out. Regards Stephen & Pauline.

Completely agree with all your points on what it feels like to own a Spyder. For me what it feels like to own a Spyder is when "we", riding two up with my wife, spend the day riding it is the best part of our day. That is what it can feel like to own a Spyder!

Great vid Coach. I feel more "planted" to the ground, riding the Spyder. It corners like it's on rails. I rode a Maxi-Scooter from 2006-2021 and let me tell you, having thick skin is a must when you ride with your Harley buddies from work. What other people think of my ride is irrelevant. What I think of my ride is paramount. I will always have the memory of my daughter riding with me in the Christmas Parade last year that brings joy to my heart.

Listening to John Denver and the Carpenters while everyone else I knew were rockin’ out to KISS and Led Zeppelin, I know what it’s like to “not fit in” with other motorcyclists. I’ve enjoyed my two-wheelers (several Hondas & a Harley), but none bring the joy that my Spyder does. My wife and I feel less stress on the RTL and I’ve signed her up for the Can Am riding class coming up in June. We’re planning our first real tour to Mt. St. Helens & Mt. Rainer in June. Can’t wait for the snow to go away!

It feels great to own a Canam Spyder! I have owned my F3 for nearly 2 years now and would never have guessed how much I enjoy ryding it anywhere! Like you my Spyder is in my garage and I just smile each time I walk into the garage which is several times a day. You mentioned about not being such an agressive driver when on a Spyder and you are so right. At least once a month I'll have a driver going 30 mph on a smaller two lane road made for going quicker and I find myself not getting upset that someone is going so slow. The spyder keeps me calm so I just enjoy what's around me more. I've put nearly 29 thousand miles in these past two years and have ZERO regrets on my purchase of this machine. Great video Coach.

A very good topic. The perceived perception of many folks with zero knowledge is mind-boggling. Sadly, I've seen this behavior in HD riders more than any other riders. I call it bike bigotry.

i came to the realization this past Thursday just how wonderful these trikes are, i had my wife out for a ride in the country side cruising by all the strawberry fields and when she ask to stop i did not have worry about loose shoulder/sand/ gravel, just make sure it's safe to stop and pull over. (BTW the smell of strawberry's being picked is amazing ) Awesome video.

Coach my take is simple. I test rode a first year 1330 RT. It was LOVE!! Since then I have seen some very cool motorcycles but none have captured the feeling I have for the RT. I now have a new love. The Sea to Sky. Opinions are just like a__holes. We all have one. But until some hater comes to me and buys the motorcycle THEY want me to ride, then my advice to them: You and your opinion can kiss me where the sun DON’T shine and that’s my opinion. Sea to Sky forever. AMEN👍🏽

It feels liberating to own a Spyder. I was a Harley rider for a couple of years, the last year of ownership it sat in my garage looking beautiful, but because of health issues I couldn’t ride it. Finally decided to sell it and bought a Spyder. I can ride whenever I want now, and the freedom of being able to ride outweighs all of the “crap” I get from my biker friends! I’ve embraced the hate, can poke fun back, and enjoy riding my F3 Ltd.

As a new Spyder f3S owner (06/07/2024) I can say that just taking the machine down the back roads around where I live just gives me the feeling of, OK, it all going to be OK. Might only be going 40 MPH or so and can pretty much guarantee I'm going to find a wide spot somewhere and stop to just watch stars for a while. God am I glad I bought my Spyder for those moments.

I bought my Spyder two years ago. It’s my first “bike” being disabled I didn’t think about having a two wheeler because my legs jump at times. I could see myself falling with the bike at traffic lights. Because of my health I’ve had some dark times and have struggled with depression. How does the Spyder make me feel? On my dark days I get my helmet on and go for a ride. There’s a sense of freedom and space that my car just cannot offer. I get a huge lift from the feeling of wind in my face and from the stimulation my senses get from the lack of filter riding a bike provides. I get a sense of pride when I see the Spyder sitting in the garage because, for the first time in my life, I’ve done something purely for my own well-being. I love taking my husband out on it and he gets that it’s a different kind of living. He feels the exhilaration I feel and the lift in his spirits that I feel. I am aiming to buy a new Spyder this year and to pass my current ride to him. Both of us riding together is something I look forward to. I’ve gone from just living in a beautiful part on England to really loving the countryside around me. I notice more and experience my surroundings on a different spiritual level now. If I don’t ride for a few days I itch to get my helmet on and crank that V-Twin into action. Even through the winter I’ve loved being out on it. I get more light I my eyes, which is a huge boost the the winter. Bob, I am so glad to have found your channel. Your calm, warm voice, your relationship with Coach Vic, the road trips and advice… you lift my days. Thank you

Never have I felt more safe, a smoother ride and I feel perfectly fine after long rides. Most of all my wife loves to ride with me now, and we now both can share an incredible experience on the road. Keep putting out those awesome videos Coach.

I think you have hit the nail on the head and describing all these feelings! The first time I ever rode in a group with a spyder rider, was when I was still riding two up with Tommy G on his Harley and we were on a group ride in the mountains of Virginia... I was amazed at how well that F3 handled and that's when I decided that I would like one of those... I also got to take it for a test ride in the parking lot and that convinced me even more! I don't care what anyone else is riding or driving...To each their own...

For me, the fact the the Spyder has a larger frontal area makes it more visible to other drivers on the road. The white color makes it more eye catching also. I won't go back to 2 wheels. I've gotten a lot of compliments and questions about it.

I get frightened by bikes especially the two wheelers. Its not so much me, it's the feeling of others that could wipe me out because of a careless mistake. That said, if I worried about everything in life then I would never get out of bed in a morning. The Can Am looks like the answer to my bike dilema and looks so planted and peaceful to ride out on. Thanks Coach Bob, I am so looking forward to the next one.

Greetings Bob, My wife and I have been viewing your episodes for a few weeks as we've wrestled with the decision to purchase a Spyder. We have been considering two spiders; the Fiat 124 Spyder Roadster and the Can Am Spyder RT LTD. Yesterday we decided to purchase a 2023 Can Am Spyder RT LTD in Petrol Metallic Dark. We expect to take possession of it next week, and we look forward to a month to six weeks of riding together before winter. We drove the Sea to Sky model a couple of weeks ago, and found it to perform exactly as you have described in several of your episodes we have viewed. You are, to us, a rather perfect example of a satisfied Spyder rider, and we appreciate your insights very much. Best Regards, ELLIS STEWART

Coach, my wife and I attended a Ride Event, Office Down Memorial last year. In 2021 there were more officers killed in the line of duty than ever before. I experienced the dislike (hate) of non H riders. I walked back to our Spyder to put our jackets away. There were 3 guys standing there as I approached. One of them makes a comment "He must be afraid to get sand in his " They shut up when I walked up but big mouth starts commenting under his breath. One of them asked what year it is and a few other questions. Then he asked how many miles I have ridden. Just under 10K was the answer. They guys busts out laughing and says to Big Mouth, he has more than double miles you have ridden. Then told them I was a State Trooper for 25 years. Been called everything under the Sun and he would have to try harder than that. Walked away with a big old S H ? T eating grin. 😁

I too fell in love with the Spyder. Looked at them for several years and finally bought a low mileage 2015 to see if I would like them. About 500 miles later I knew I'd found my Ryde. Bought a 2020 RTL when they were introduced. What a difference. All the time this was going on, my Goldwing sat. I loved it and still have a soft spot for the Harleys I've owned, but when it came time to go for a ride, I went to the Spyder. Sold the Wing to a gentleman who is enjoying it immensely. We are both happy. At 75 I hope I'm still ryding 10 years from now. If so, I'll be on a Spyder. P. S. The Monster Fuel ecu tune makes it a completely different machine. The way it should come from the factory.

Awesome vid! So many of your comments rang true with me. Just got my Spyder back from brake job, was missing my "wind therapy." Got stuck behind a slow truck obscuring my view on the way home. I slowed down to enjoy the fresh air, warm sunshine and blossoms blowing thru the air. God's many blessings. Yes, it's a 3-wheel bemouth, but due to this, I feel more secure by its increased visibility via sitting up higher and visibility of larger size. I too have ridden 2 and 3 wheels. Because I don't have to focus on some of the unique 2-wheel technical riding skills it allows me to enjoy the 3-wheel experience all the more. I also experience the trepidation when starting my Spyder up but having watched your tutorials on things like the parking brake issue, I am prepared and assured. The "clunk" when shifting will always perturb me tho. A Harley guy stopped to talk to me once, as he had been watching me whip thru traffic. His father was considering a tri-glide but was concerned with the turning, he was very impressed and almost giggly by the Spyder. He couldn't wait to tell his Dad about the Spyder. Your halfhearted (tongue in cheek) avoidance of emotions is "emotion" in itself. I experience total positive experience when you talk about Coach Vic and your children. God Bless and thank you!

Funny thing I got to see about the Spyder I was leaving a chocolate candy store and there was a Spyder in the parking lot next to a guy getting on a motorcycle and he noticed me checking out the Spyder and made a comment telling me to get a real bike Spyders are for those that can't ride a real bike and I told him I like the idea as I feel they are safer to ride especially if I have my wife on back or if it happens to rain. He laughed and told me not when you are experienced and been riding for years and no accidents, I kid you not as soon as he went to take off he wiped out in the sand and gravel! Down he went! I asked if he was ok and boy was he angry, I told him you now convinced to get a Spyder! Unreal!

I rode a Piaggio MP3 for about ten years. It turned a lot of heads in my area because frankly, mine was the only one anyone around here saw on the road regularly. Lots of people came up to me and asked about it. TBH the ONLY negative comment I got was from an insurance salesman who opined it wasn't "a real bike" then had the b*lls to hand me his business card. Um, yeah, that thing went directly in the trash. LOL More people around my area ride Spyders and Rykers, but I still get people coming up to me to talk about my Spyder. So far, zero negative comments, in my presence, anyway. And like you said, frankly I don't care what anyone else thinks of it. :) I just got my Spyder in September and only had time to ride it about 1500 miles before putting it away for hte winter. So the worry/anxiety factor is still a bit of an issue because I'm still learning. I loved loved loved my MP3 but at low speeds I was always nervous. With the twice-as-heavy, three-times-the-CC Spyder, I'm nervous taking this beast into curves, but I'll get there.

As a motorcycle rider for the past 30 years this was such a great and thoughtful video, thank you! Due to knee issues I can’t ride a motorcycle anymore, been riding for over 30 years, and I’d sooner ride a Can Am and keep on riding for another 20 years.

I have some side questions. In the rain, how does it feel compared to a motorcycle? Do you get as wet or less wet? In the heat, do you feel more hot or the same heat as a motorcycle? Theft, so you worry about it being stolen the same or less? Lastly, long trip far from home, how hard is it to get service if you have an emergency? I’ve had 4 breakdowns in my life (all tire issues) and I’ve never been turned down for service. Had tires for my BMW changed at Honda, Harley, and Indian shops. But I worry that no one will want to touch a Can Am other than a Can Am dealer.

i’ve recently found your videos and i find them to be very enthusiastic and uplifting. i haven’t ridden a motorcycle since i was a kid BUT now you and coach vic have definitely got me thinking heavily about getting a spyder. though i do have one question, would the spyder RT also be good at an every day back and forth to work vehicle? i truly like the content, keep up the awesome work coach bob.

I am still loving the Spyder experience... the pot hole avoidance sill is definitely a part of that experience. for the spots I can't go around...I line the holes up with my knee and the hole passes between the from and rear wheels. It hasn't presented a problem ... yet anyway!!! Thanks for watching.

I am always amused by the people who walk up wanting to compliment my Spyder or to ask questions, but first they need to preface it by letting me know they have a "real motorcycle" background.

I am a little surprised that you don't get those good time feelings when you ride your other motorcycles. Riding two wheeled motorcycles is natural at least for me. The only things I think about are hazards. You should feel good about whatever you ride.

Hope you feel a little better, thumbs up always. Interesting hearing your tale about the ignorance of the two guys slamming your spyder & the idiots that ride them. Honestly, I think I'd have had to remind them that opinions are like a-holes, every idiot has one &youre entitled to yours. A LONG time ago I was sat at a table outside what was the largest sporting event center in the UK having a light lunch between training programs. Sat there minding my own business two young ladies (late teens) asked if I didnt mind them joining me, of course not. After a few minutes things got interesting & my ears pricked up, the two girls who were synchronised swimmers started to discuss the mindless morons that were the competitive swimmers who were training in most of the pool that unbeknown to them I was part of. What an enlightening conversation that was, I had a serious problem not allowing my smile to break through while finishing my lunch. I had just finished mine as their order arrived, as I stood to leave I wished them well & to enjoy their lunch as I put on my GB Swimming Track Top, the last thing I remember seeing was two huge Beetroots sat at the table I'd just left. To give credit to one of the girls, she did approach me in the pool later that day & apologise.. How does it feel to own a can-am Spyder ? only time will allow me to answer that one but anytime after April 10 will work for me. Wishing yourself & CoachVic health & happiness.

LTFT commenter. I wanted to comment on your safety theory. I think it was a MOTOJITSU video I watched a few months ago, where the accident percentage was broken down. Something like 80% of all motorcycle accidents are single vehicle only, meaning just the rider involved. Of that 80%, something 75% were traffic tip overs, or in basic terms, over 50% of motorcycle incidents are the rider dropping the bike at slow speeds or stopped. Although possible, you have to work quadruple overtime to to tip over a Spyder, by it’s very design, estimated 50% of motorcycle incidents are effectively eliminated. Now all you have to worry about is the roughly “stupid rider syndrome,” that’s about 30% , and the 20% trying to kill you for being there😂.

I'm a passionate facts and figures guy as well Coach Bob!! One thing I am curious about is whether you have come across any demographic data on Spyder riders. Are we mostly aging males? I know there are a lot of awesome woman riders out there, but what do the numbers show?

  • @CoachBob3

    @CoachBob3

Good question! My personal observations show (not backed up ny independent data).. RT's have been heavily ridden by aging males (45 and older). The F3 is aging male and female riders (45 and older) with a younger mixture interspersed. Great question... I will be watching this more closely in the future.

@CoachBob3, your observations match mine, and seem fairly logical. Would be interesting to see some actual empirical evidence and demographics. I'm really curious as to the oldest cohort ... how long are folks being able to continue riding with that third wheel ...

The question is based on social acceptance. Will people accept me in to their circle if I ride a Spyder? I think most of us have experienced that feeling. In truth it is a thought that still enters my mind from time to time but it is fleeting. On the positive side this machine evokes so many great emotions, below is a partial list: Uniqueness: I love riding something that is special in its own right. When you get out on a Spyder you will be in a unique and special group of people. Riding time: I live in Minnesota, we are limited in riding time because of our harsh winters. With that said the Spyder platform increases riding time here by at least 30 days in the spring and fall. Last spring I went for my first ride on a sunny April morning that was 26 degrees Fahrenheit. There were no 2 wheel motor cycles out that day, in fact it was at least another month before I started seeing them. By then I had already rode 1500 miles. More than anything the feeling I get when I think about my RTL is FUN. I smile when I look at it, when I clean it, when I ride it.
