My Mother and I have ridden together for 30 years. Once she hit 65 she bought the "bagger" version of the Canam and loves it. The 3 wheels gives her the confidence to continue riding without worrying about the weight of the bike when making U-turns or being on gravel. She turns 76 this year (don't let her know I told y'all), and we plan to take a long trip up into the Blue Ridge Parkway next spring. Keep riding as long as you can, on whatever makes you happy!

I am 76 yrs old also and I wish I had a wife like your mom, because I sold my motorcycle 3 months ago and I wanted to get a can am, but now my wife said she doesn’t want me riding anymore because she thinks it’s too dangerous! I am so sad 😢because I never expected her to be this way in our marriage and I am really sad because I don’t know what to do at this point in time. She doesn’t like to go out much and now I feel like an Eagle 🦅 locked up in a cage at home. 🏡 I have 76ers behind me, but I don’t know how many years I still have ahead of me? This has really changed me so much. I guess she just wants me to sit around the house all day and wait for the ángel of Death. 💀 how terrible to end my life as a piece of furniture. 🪑 😢I survived the Vietnam war for Gods sake!

@@tobylopez445 I am very sad for you, Toby.... Is this something you both can talk about some more? Research and show her statistics for accidents with the Spyders vs two-wheelers... Take a three-wheeler course because you can always learn something new... In a few months I'm going to be taking an advanced three-wheeler course put together by Pro Rider and even though I already had my two-wheel endorsement when I got my spyder, I took a basic three-wheeler course.

I’m going on 73 and I’ve been riding bike for the better part of 50 years. mostly two wheels. After a knee replacement, a reverse shoulder replacement , major surgery to reconstruct both feet due to severe osteoarthritis, I’m now riding a Can-Am, RT, limited, fully decked out. It’s as comfortable as can be. It’s safe as can be. I feel much much more visible riding the Can-Am. Tell your wife she should go to one of the demos for Can-Am …go on a ride with a professional rider, while you test drive a Can-Am. They do it all over the country. That’s the way I got my spouse involved in it. Then you can both sign up to take the rider safety course …just so that you have a fine understanding of how it handles different than a two wheel and your wife will also be able to see how safe it is. Good luck… keep riding! Life is too short not to ride!

I have been writing two wheels since 1960. I have owned three Harleys and two BMWs and many many Hondas. I am on my second Can-Am SpYder (RT-L's) since 2014. Since my right knee went bad, I skipped the two wheelers and love the three-wheelers. I just turned the young age of 77 and I plan on riding for many more years. Ride safe. BTW, the F3's are the sports version of the SpYders. That is why you may think they are a bit twitchy. See if you can test right the RT limited, you will find it a lot smoother both in ride, and handling.

I'm 65 and have been riding motorcycles my since the age of 8. Last year I sold my 2016 Vulcan Voyager for a 2022 Spyder RT Limited Sea to Sky edition in order to continue touring with my wife and our dog. I still own a Suzuki Boulevard M50 for riding around town and back-roads by myself. I also found my Spyder a bit squirrely initially, but discovered that they need to be aligned based on the expected load. Toe-in is set to zero (0) at the factory. Because of the double "A" arm suspension system, they will toe-out when weight is added. Toe-out will cause the Spyder to follow road imperfections. Once you get the Spyder Laser-aligned and configured for the weight of the Driver and passenger, handling will improve tremendously.

After 40 plus years of Harley riding, arthritic knees finally put a stop to the enjoyment of 2 wheels. I still need the thrill of being behind handlebars so a Spyder was the best choice. Didn't really think I'd like it after the Harleys, but it's amazing fun! I can overtake just as quickly as any 2 wheeler without worrying about road surfaces. It also extends my riding season because I can ride on roads that would be dangerously slippery on 2 wheels. With heated seats, heated grips, backrest and tons of storage, really long trips are a joy, not a chore. Yep, I'm happy! Though my girlfriend has never forgiven me for giving the Harley to my son 😂😂

Thanks for your unbiased opinion as a two wheeler. We have a 2022 Spyder RT Ltd , having never ridden a motorcycle before this was an easy fix for us. Plus my wife has balance issues on two wheels so this is great for her too. Still allows us to hit the open road, & get the wind in your face & ride with our friends that have two wheels! We really love it, in fact my wife has clocked up more kms than I have. The steering is quite sensitive but you get used to it, probably because of the power steering. I have switched out the factory sway bar for an aftermarket one as it was feeling uncomfortable in corners & when passed by large semi trucks. Plus when there’s sidewinds. This has made it a different ride altogether & once the spring comes we will be out there once again to enjoy some more rides! Regards Stephen Alberta Canada.

Trikes might be used as an alternative to bikes, but they offer a different experience, with the stability and comfort of a car, but with a riding experience. No more worries with treacherous road conditions, oil slicks, wet leaves, slippery ironmongery and potholes and if you have to perform emergency braking you'll remain upright. From a practical point of view Trikes make so much sense.

Have a Ryker and large moto (me) and small moto (wife). She loves the Ryker especially in traffic bc she feels less exposed. Rykers don’t have power steering so have to be muscled into turn and you lean in not to turn but to keep yourself from flying off. It also has crazy low seat for shorties (like us). I keep asking wife if we should seek Ryker and she keeps giving me the look😮 if you know what I mean. It’s definitely not for everyone but pretty fun in its own way. I love jet skis so feels similar but with better brakes 😂

My wife purchased one last summer so she could ride with me and the motorcycle club I belong to. Our club have a number of Can- Am Spyder riders. Can-Am had a local school to teach her how to ride it. She loves it! Since she didn't have a three wheel license endorsement at time of purchased I broke it in for her. The brake in consisted taking it south on Colorado 285 then north over Guanella pass ( 11669 ft ) over to Georgetown to I-70 back to Denver. Plus a few short trips. The Can-am wasn't even breathing hard. The heated seat and grips kept me nice and warm. I put 1000 mile on the bike. It takes about 1000 mile to get use to it and once you do you will love it! My wife wants me to buy one now. It's tempting!

I have nothing bad to say about my experience but I did miss leaning in the curves. I sold it and bought a new Indian Chieftain, which is the best bike I’ve ever owned. That said, at 60, I’ll buy another Can Am if/when I can no longer ride on 2-wheels. On another note, the Spyder will stop swaying if you lighten your grip.

Just to correct you, it is by definition a motorcycle. They also have some older models of the F3 that have manual transmissions. I think 2020 or 2921 was the last year for that. By definition a motorcycle is a 2 or 3 wheel vehicle that you straddle the seat and has handlebars. An Autocycle would resemble a small car and it has a steering wheel not handlebars

I have over 40,000 miles on two wheels, but I can’t trust my legs anymore due to rheumatoid arthritis. So I bought a ‘23 Spyder F3-T. it’s definitely different than two wheels, but it’s really fun. Rides like a quad, but you should get used to it pretty quickly. The biggest issue I’m having is keeping the left front wheel in my lane. Being used to riding two wheels, I ride in the left tire track so my Spyder’s wheel is on or over the center line. A few more rides and I think I’ll get used to riding in the center of the lane.

I think the major hold up many have is just the lack of variety. From what I see it’s the Ryker or Spyder and that’s it. I do know some guys with GSXR1000, Fireblades and such that have also have Rykers. And I agree with their reasoning. The fast sport bike is fun once in awhile but IMO kind of silly to daily commute on but to each his own. Also on your day off you might want a chill ride over folding up and leaning forward on a sport bike.

Now that I'm retired I was looking for a toy and an acquaintance reminded me of the Spyder, so a hunting I went and found my toy. I wouldn't have gotten a Spyder if not for the F3S. I bought the last year model to have the hand clutch(2021). Gives me the feeling of a motorcyle as I love ripping through the gears. Bought my wife an F3T two weeks ago. It's pretty much an F3/S with integrated side bags and a couple of other creature comforts, but dosn't look bulky like the other touring models. I get comments all the time. Just wish the performance and audio aftermarket was larger.

I rode bikes for years, and after both hips being replaced, my wife and I decided on a 2021 Can Am Spyder Sea to Sky with every bell and whistle. We enjoyed it, but it was NOT a motorcycle. When Indian released the Pursuit, I said to my wife I wish I would have held off on buying the Can Am and waited for the Indian. Well... my wife said "go buy one." We purchased a 2022 Indian Pursuit and I have not looked back since. What I learned is there are two people that purchase Can Am Spyders. The first type of person is someone who never rode motorcycles and want to get out and enjoy riding. The second type of person is the one who can no longer physically ride a motorcycle and hold it up. Our Can Am performed very well, but lacked HP when traveling over 80 MPH. No one made tuners or anything like that, but we did enjoy it while we owned it. I hope this helps.

The steering becomes more natural with mileage, it’s again different to steering a motorcycle and requires a different touch which as I said becomes second nature and you find general riding becomes more relaxed. About 2 years ago I got my 3 wheel endorsement and currently working on my 2 wheel endorsement… one main reason I decided to go to traditional bikes is because I find the 3 wheelers just too expensive. That along with extremely limited and expensive customization options for these vehicles. Just to put fat tire on the rear of a Spyder is like $15K… for that kind of money you could get 2 nice used traditional 2 wheel bikes. I’ve been on Spyders and Rykers and they are nice for what they are… feels more like riding ATV’s …but nothing beats the look and feel of riding a big beautiful Harley or Indian in my opinion… I would even prefer the newer Harley Davidson Tri-Glide over a Spyder if I’m going to spend that kind of big money on a trike.

I bought my first Spyder to get my wife back to riding with me again. Now I have a 21' Spyder RTL and I really love it. I have 250k + on 2 wheels and about 50k on the Spyder RT's. I am planning on buying a BMW R1250 GSA used ,but I'm not getting rid of the Spyder for sure.

TBH I'd take the RT version of the Spyder over a Goldwing or similar $30k big tourer. Thinking of something like this for winter of col weather riding. Probably end up with a CTX700 or similar for $5k though. This would make me more comfortable riding in freezing conditions as I wouldn't have to worry as much of hitting a small ice patch.

Interesting, I heard the same thing about putting ones foot on the brake to start etc. HOWEVER on MY RTL22 I only have to put my foot on the brake to shift from R to 1 and ya better not be moving. I know not why but hbut the doc says something about under 900 rpm..

On the roads you have to ride on there, I would consider a trike. A used Harley Trike. This is ok, but if my bike is not making noise, I probably won't enjoy it nearly as much as those that don't care about noise.

    N. County Rd to 287 into WY is a nice ride. Once past all the congestion of Longmont/Loveland/FtCo Oy! - as for who can use them. The ppl I know who have had them, are guys in wheelchairs. Who either use to ride 2 wheel bikes. Or never rode but wanted to & used these. The never rode one's are also the same guys who would skydive w/me 👍& as for cost again. Go figure ofc CO doesn't know the cost of snowmobiles😂, but they tend to run Cheaply to Start 15k & Up. So one w/wheels at 20, not to shabby. Imo

I have my motorcycle endorsement but switched to a can am f-3s and also initially had issues with the steering. I was convinced it was the bike. It wasn’t. It was me. Hi, I’m the problem, it’s me. 😝 but unlike a motorcycle you don’t necessarily need to actively steer all the time. It’s difficult to explain but once I realized I was “doing too much”, it got A LOT easier and a much smoother ride.

I dont understand why all 2 wheeel riders think this is only for people who cannot ride 2 wheels or have a problem with their legs. This thing is something else. It is the bomb. Ive been riding 2 wheels and this. If i knew how this rides sooner I woeld havee laft 2 weels long ago! There are no corners that any 2 wheeel rider can keep up with mee. Only roads without corners and oveertaking is faster with 2 wheels. I can ride this for 8 hours and still be ok. But I also take it out for a spin of 1 hour. Last 5 years I have ben riding it more tha 10.000 KM per year. Oh, and winter is no problem cos you can not lose grip and fal over.

I'm guessing these are for people who love Snowmobiles, but needs something for the other 3 seasons. Or, people who love ATVs, but want less cop harrassment. Or, like you said, people who don't want to, or physically can't deal with a motorcycle leaning, or falling over, and they are too disabled to pick it back up. I much prefer 2 wheel motorcycles, even in winter, I'd rather have an All Wheel Drive motorcycle with winter tires or soft compound offroad tires, like dual hub motors, or a Christini AWD. But I like these Can Am things.

The biggest issues with Spyders/Rykers are 1. They’re as wide as car, so no lane splitting or tight space maneuvering. 2. Really low ground clearance with the radiator front and center and no protection so anything around 4” or taller, you’re taking damage. Even some speed bumps will present a challenge. Lastly/most importantly, the 3 wheel track basically eliminates the ability to avoid obstacles. In a car you can straddle, bike you can swerve, on 3 wheels you’ve gotta decide which tire is going to hit. You combine all these issues and you find yourself in a worst of both worlds between a bike and a car instead of the best. You’ve got the width/agility of a car without the protection and the exposure of a bike without the clearance, agility and speed. I started out on a Ryker Rally and sold it after a year. Now I have a Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports and absolutely love it. If I were to get something to get the wind in my hair vibes and not worry about balancing, I’d just go with a jeep or small convertible.

First of all, radiators yes 2 of them are at the side of the frunk not behind of the grill, there is no way to damage them. Second been wide is a plus cause people see you better especially coming to a intersection or when they gonna do a U turn in front of you.

Glad you found a ride you enjoy! There really is a difference between the Ryker and Spyders in my opinion in handling... You mention agility, speed and turning... The Spyders have power assist steering and can "turn on a dime". I have an F3 Limited and can take my hubby on his HD Ultra Limited in the 1/4 mile.. No clutch 😁... Then after that, his is faster. No, can't lane split but I can do a uturn a whole lot easier than he can with the Harley... And he's got years and miles of experience. We've both ridden our rides in 49 states, including Alaska. All rides have positives and negatives. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Been a custom V twin builder for 25 years. Always owned Harleys but after an accident with my hand I can no longer pull a clutch. Had to sell my beautiful 2017 Anniversary Street Glide. My knees have been replaced and left one still isn’t good. So obviously this was the choice to keep riding at 74 years old. Damn thing is over priced. Sounds like a sewing machine even after spending a fortune on a new exhaust. The sound system sucks for a bike this price. You turn it on and it sits there loading before it plays. Clunks hard when you first put in gear. I have. 2021 RT Limited. The little gas shocks for the seat and trunk lid absolutely suck and needed replacing with aftermarket ones. For a bike or whatever you want to call it the quality just sucks. Pain in the ass to work on because it’s all plastic and held together with tabs and push pins. That’s the bad stuff. The good stuff is it rides great with the air suspension ( on the RT only I believe) Truly is a snowmobile on asphalt . That part I love! You can actually lean it a bit in the turns unlike a Harley trike. 2 wheels up front is the only way to go. Loads of storage. You should see how many groceries I can put in lol. Again that’s only with a RT Limited version. Styling on the F3 is way better in my opinion but not great for long trips. I did a 4500 mile trip a month after I bought it. I will say other than a trunk lid adjustment to keep it closed the thing performed flawlessly. I recently added an Apple Car Play to it. That’s great and I see the 2024 models now have. What took you so long BRP? Performance isn’t too bad but then again I’ve been used to higher HP bikes that weighed less so it’s a bit lack luster there. If this thing was 2/3 the price I’d say great investment. As is……not as much. Although if it keeps your hair in the wind I guess it’s still worth it in the end. Just my 2.5 cents. Used to be 2 cents but with inflation…..😂
