How does anyone LIVE here? (Junkyard Garden Transformation)!

Ойын-сауық

If you have been watching my channel lately, you might recognise this property. The last 2 episodes before this were done on the drive around the other side. Basically, the whole place is a shambles, but unfortunately, I won't be able to do a full restoration on this property. I promised myself, for my own sanity, that I wasn't going to tackle blackberries on a large scale. But I really wanted to help out, so I did what I could out the front. I cleared some rubbish, did some pruning, a bit of mowing and just a general tidy up. It's not an overly long episode, but I did what I could to make the homeowners place a bit more livable. All up, I spent around 7 hours on this job, with 3 trips to the landfill included.

FAQ's:
Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs. But most of my recent jobs have been done for free.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.

Wonderful clean up. For those of us who have no yard or garden it is sad to see how neglected these places get. Thank you for helping this homeowner.

Impressing! Seems so easy when you do the work! I wish the home owners was able to start enjoying their "new" beautiful garden! I hope they was able to get some chickens again and make a litte chickenhouse for them as well. My father was also very good at fixing outside, I think of him when I watch these videos. 🤗 It makes me happy! 🍀

I watch the weekly cleanup videos on the three channels, believe it or not. I have memberships on each channel, to help finance the cleanup costs, Nice to see extra cleanup on this property! Hopefully you can return to do more work during the rest of the year. I can see the futile feeling in addressing all the chaos in the yards and the driveway. The trash seems to be the main obstacle, and I am assuming that costs are incurred for disposal of same. Despite it all, you have already accomplished so much for one pair of hands. When I was working, four pairs of hands had less productivity than yours.

It just baffles me that people can live like this. I try my best to keep my yard clean and cut. @62 I will get out there with the weed Wacker just to keep it looking nice. My thought is if this is what the outside looks like, I can only imagine what the inside looks like.

It's sometimes because the occupant has become ill or incapacitated in some way and also has a low income, therefore unable to do much. I waited 2.5 years for a hip replacement and could barely walk in the end! You get very discouraged.
