How Do We Teach Kids Contentment?

Sonia and I take a quick trip and discuss how best we can get the kids to appreciate what they have. Appreciate any ideas you may have! Richness is Life.

Children are very sensible. They are driven to resorts, eating out many times, people donate from abroad so they push more and more and more. Draw a line and stick by it. I work with children, I have nieces and nephews that was in my home all the time. They are grown up and I hardly get a text or phone call. SMH!

I had to take time out to address this issue. It’s commendable the life you are affording these boys. However, manners and respect must become apart of their development. No more rationalizing, this disrespect of Sonia, their parent/ guardian cannot be tolerated or dismissed. Your aim is to develop functional and productive individuals that are an asset to the community and self sufficient individuals. Tyler and Sonia, you must establish boundaries and rules in your home that the children must adjust/ comply with. These parameters must be established now as they/he, becomes older behavior will become ungovernable. Tough love, discipline, positive reinforcement ,respect and order is a normal part of child rearing and personal development. They/ he need to understand to whom much is given , much is expected, at least, GRATITUDE . Have a peaceful afternoon and continued blessings ❤

The trips and rewards should be earned. Everyone dont just get to go. Craig is too disrespectful. I noticed that the first day you posted him not responding when he went off to school.

It's a fine line we walk as parents when it comes to giving our kids so much without them being spoiled & ungrateful. I don't care which one of the boys it was, none of them should be kissing their teeth at an adult. That behavior is not acceptable and should be addressed now. Whether they loose privilege to the playstation/xbox, ipads, phones or no allowance, they need to understand there are consequences to their bad behavior. When all else fails, they can always get a timeout, in the house or with their older siblings. With all that said, to the child that was complaining about being hot, I understand the discomfort of trying to go to sleep on a hot summer night. However, your approach to getting your way was not correct. You have to have manners and respect for your guardians who are providing a roof over your head, food to eat and a lifestyle that most kids would dream of. If you were told no, you should've asked for a tall glass of ice water and take your butt back to bed. Remember, everything you have been given is a privilege, not a MUST.

Keep setting the boundries and sticking to it. Children will always test and challenge you , however rudeness should never be accepted suiteble punishment should be employed May god continue to bless and guide you both asparents as you continue this difficult but sometimes rewarding journey.

Keep the dialogue open. Have talks in the form of questions. Have them think about choices without making them feel judged. When they make good judgement and choices give positive verbal reinforcement. Above all let love rule.❤

Tyler & Sonia, I could have told you that this behavior would happen. They have been given too much too fast! Now they think it's a right that they must have what they want. Put on the brakes before it's too late. Some kids, especially boys will never be satisfied regardless of what you do for them. And kissing his teeth at Sonia is so very disrespectful. You both have gone above and beyond to make them happy and comfortable...sometimes they sound so ungrateful. Hope they'll soon realize how fortunate they are.

I understand what you’re saying Tyler, and that’s a good question. They got spoiled pretty quickly, without you knowing what was happening. You both were trying to do what’s right for them, from the kindness of your heart. However if it’s one thing I’ve learned, no matter how much you do for many Jamaicans it will seem like nothing, especially if they had nothing you think they would be appreciative but nope. It will only get worse, sad to say this but especially that they’re boys. Sad to say but you might need to figure out what family members might want to take them. You and Sonia is supposed to be enjoying retirement life, not getting frustrated by kids who aren’t appreciating what you have done for them.

Hi Tyler and Sonia. You've been doing a great job with your kids. Just a caution - remember whatever you're doing, consider that you're not doing it to satisfy yourselves. I'm just putting myself in that child's shoes. While you expect him to be content with the ceiling fan on speed 3, he really may not be feeling cool enough hence the reason he is asking for a higher speed OR the standing fan which will give him cooler air. I'm happy he didn't just turn up the speed without asking. So just consider that he really isn't feeling the cooler effect at speed 3 rather than just assuming he wants to be discontented. 😊

In my opinion they are treated very well. They have a far way to go, They need to learn that you guys retired and doing them a favor by taking them in your home it’s a big adjustment for both of you. The fan in home was necessary. But they really have to start showing appreciation for the things that you do for them or don’t take them on trips until they know how to appreciate. Some children would love to be in your shoes.I truly lift my hats to you guys. I think if you guys went to Jamaica to adopt children one is a good number I understand the circumstances and you had to take all three,I pray that they will change and be understanding and that you both made a big sacrifice.

Just treat them like you would your bioligical children. Love them make no distinction. So if you have to be firm be firm . But at the end of the day let them see that you genuinely and sincerely love them. And dont compare where they are now to where they are coming from . One of them seems to be going through the adolescent phase which can be brutal if you dont know how to deal with it. I know you guys love them.. 👍🏼✨ Some of these comments are cold brutal to say the least 🤔

I am going to guess Craig was that child. For me,the moment a child hisses his teeth at me tells me it's time to draw a line. Time to start a new. There is no wiggle room until he gets what I mean. Fan would be off, windows cracked for cross ventilation, or enjoy the free a,/a on the verandah. Otherwise, I would give a friendly reminder that most of Jamaica sleeps without a fan, so to be thankful, yours is turned to #3.

Why are you frustrated because the boys are not content to let where they are coming from define them they are human not the stray puppy that is happy to get a little food yes they get food and go places but that is not all it is very disturbing to speek about them as if they should settle because they are not coming from no where the boys understand that they are been used as contents and contents creator and vloger makes money you Tyler and sonia are benifited as much as those kids please treat them with respect and you will get respect and all you uncle tom out there you need to have compassion their father that love them died I am sure he showed them love....the common saying in the vlog "there is Junior looking attention" why????

Interesting perspective and enjoyable read...so to be clear, all money raised on the channel does go to their living expenses and portion of trips were able to take.
