It's the same in Australia, with ABC, they have become so woke, very few people watch it. Unfortunately in Australia we are not given a choice to pay for it, it's paid by our taxes and we don't get a choice. If we had the British system there's no way I would be subscribing.

The TV licence is a disgrace if the elderly are being bullied for not paying it .

If you don't serve the citizens of the country, you don't deserve a tax. BTW I'm NOT a UK citizen.

The BBC should be broken up , at almost 78 I struggle to pay for their shocking service.

BBC studio makes billions - the agency needs to be defunded and made to actually compete win the market.

They are too far gone to correct their course now. So why are they bullying pensioners??? "Support" is not threatening people.

Hello Neil, I cancelled my licence in January because I was fed up with the fact that they are not impartial and their attitude after October 7th was the final straw. I then received a cheque from them for two months rebate....I wasn't expecting it, but was happy to receive it. Last week I received a threatening letter because my licence has run out....I rest your case! Penny from Christchurch. 🇬🇧

It is a shame what the BBC has become. Back in the day, you turned to the BBC for facts. This story made me think of a quote from philosopher Richard Rorty, "National pride is to countries what self-respect is to the individual." The BBC seems to have missed that.

The BBC needs to disappear. A TV licence is ridiculous, particularly if it's given by one TV station and very little that's watchable in the way of content. Surely if there had to be a licence. It should come from a central place, not one TV station. Abolish the licence. Our government did decade's ago.

My son moved into a flat he got autism the bbc threatened to send a enforcement officer to his flat we forgot to get the license my son was so troubled upset from this threatening letter

My mother told me during WWII the American radio stations would broadcast the BBC. She said they would sit around the radio at her California home and listen for those words “This is the BBC”. They knew it would be both comforting and reassuring. As long as they heard those words they knew Great Britain hadn’t fallen and hopefully the Allies were moving forward. Bless her heart the BBC wouldn’t be something she’d trust today.

I am saddened by what has happened to the bbc who used to be a bastion of broadcasting.

I'm in my 60s, disabled & very recently gone through 3 very close family members die ( one being my Son ) I've been getting bombarded with text messages & now a letter threatening me with a fine & possibility of having to pay compensation to the BBC all for owing them £12.00 & I can't afford to pay it until next week, I'm at my wits end because of it.

I cancelled my license in favour of the internet information, much more accurate!

Why let facts get in the way of click bait. All Britains should ref us to pay that tax.

What I do not understand is why the BBC needs people,to spend money that they many times struggle to have to just watch live TV? Why do t they just get advertisers? People need to just finally say “NO”! Just because it’s always been this way doesn’t mean it’s the only way!!!

As l stated before, TV licensing have no right to 'enforce' anything. Mark their hate letters as 'return to sender' so that they have to pay to get them back. ln some countries, home owners are forced by law to pay for a license whether they have a TV set or not. They had better not do that here, because l and many like me will disobey the law. Face the fact that the BBC is finished as a politically left wing organ that offers very little entertainment that none of us watch.

Neil I spoke to them two months ago and told them I was cancelling my tv licence because I hadn’t stayed in my house for over a. Year because of a flood. The woman said are you sure you don’t need a licence where you are staying. I pointed out I have been staying in a hotel. She then said if I want I can go onto the website and claim back a year’s tv licence which I have done. Now I have received not one but two letters telling me they will be starting an investigation into me as to why I’m no longer paying for my tv licence and I could be fined or even given a jail sentence. I hope when they come they see the steel shutters on my houses windows because my house was broken into twice last weekend while I’m stuck in another town waiting on my insurance company repairing my house 16 months later.

Just ignore them they have to prove you are watching BBC. They are not investigating you. Just a stock letter. They have no power to come into your home unless you invite them.

I actually phoned them up two days ago to say I no longest terrestrial and that I only watch " youtube", the lady on the phone was very nice and informed me that someone may come to my address just tocheck( I bloody hope I've got it right and that I don't need a licence to watch youtbe😨

Is the fee for TV lincence mandatory in UK ? In Germany we used to have choice ( not having tv set at home ment no fee), but since years everybody has to pay, regardless of using it ....even disabled people have to pay. You have to be blind AND deaf to be freed of the fee. One of the mentioned conditions is not enough. Crazy, isn't it ?

When we bought a second TV - we had to fill out forms - name, address and sign to verify that we had a TV license - if we didn't fill out the form the store couldn't sell to us...

There two programme I like to watch but they are even getting woke . So I pay all that money for two programmes. That I am getting fed up with the woke comments. Just another point before I retired I worked as a support worker at the time there were 3 people living in this one house each person had there own tvs each of them were required to have their own tv licence all while living at the same address. Wrong in so many ways. 😷👋

Neil, 96 per cent of Scotland is white. in England it is about 86 per cent, with about. 10 per cent Asian, about 3 per cent is black although if you watch the adverts you would think it's about 50 per cent, not 3 per cent.

It seems that people who do not own a TV are being prosecuted, it is not finding people without licences but bullying people in legal areas they have little knowledge of.

it's because it's govt employees. We have the same problem in Canada.....the govts ....fed, to municipal....tend to hire relatives of ppl who already work there, whether they're qualified or not. Land managers in Toronto bought a $300,000 piece of polluted land for $5 million and then had to spend more to clean it up. In our city there literally is a box to check that says ""do you have a relative working for the city?"" and ""if so, what is their position?"" The person with the highest ranking relative gets the job. My all time favourite...once i figured it out...is when the LIBRARY hired a severely dyslexic person to be shelf reader.....ie reshelve books, put holds under the person's name on the shelf in the proper position etc. Once i realized that the 2nd and 3rd letters (they only put the first 3 letters of your last name on the label) were always going to be flipped, it was easy. Still feel sorry for the Toronto taxpayers though. Cheers anyways!

I live in Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺 and there are a lot of female drivers. Not part time workers. Full time the same as the men. They do exactly the same job and shift work.

There are plenty of female drivers across the rail network and the number seems to be increasing. A nonsense story.

Its about time the bbc licence got scrapped all we get is reality tv even the weekends now and again you get a new drama but most of programs are replays ,cooking,cleaning repiaring ,property buying,and how to make money out of trashas soon as any of these progams come on i turn over 😊

Morning Neil and Chums 👋👋. I’m 70 now rarely watch tv let alone the BBC I ph the tv licence customer service find out how far in advanced my payments are then stop my direct debit. Then the letters start last time I actually had someone turn up at my door. Very intimidating tactics 😷

When I first went to Australia my dear father told me, remember Mary you are going into their country, you fit in with them not expect them to adjust to your cultural values or way of life. Now here in England the BBC are complaining of white train drivers. The Mayor of London not respecting Christmas but, hold on he respected Ramadan. Did he fit in with England. The answer screams.
