Thank you so much for this amazing video on types of stepper motors! I learned a lot from your clear and detailed explanations. You are a great teacher and I appreciate your effort to share your knowledge with us.

Thank you so much, this comment means a lot :)
This is a VERY solid explanation of how steppers work. Thanks for putting in the work and sharing!

Thank you so much!
That was a great video, beautifully explained!! I do have one question, does that sound that the stepper motor makes by the end of the video are generated by the motor itself, or the driver controlling it, or maybe both? I have an stock Ender 3 3d printer, and i noticed that the steppers moving can make a lot of noise, but the sound seems to come from the driver board specifically. But in this video, the stepper itslef seems to be producing these sounds.

Thank you, I’m glad you liked the video :) you’re right it is both, in my video the stepper is making the vast majority of the noise, because it’s being driven in full step mode (opposed to micro-stepping) and because of the particular driver, for example the TMC22xx series of driver are much quieter. Also having it attached to a large wooden table seemed to amplify the motor noise!
Can the driver detect when a step was skipped so that it can tell the MCU which then can take that into account?

Unfortunately not, the driver has no way of knowing if the stepper has skipped steps, this is a drawback of using a control method with no closed loop feedback (such as an encoder) there may be drivers that can detect skipped steps but not that I know of.
