One of the most frequent questions I get is “How do I get rid of brown spots, dark spots, age spots or other pigmentation issues.”
Key products:

I am going to talk about the self-treatment route...
Because while many types of treatments can work, I want to talk specifically about using at-home products to replace all the expensive treatments. That’s what Platinum Skin Care is all about. Making amazing results accessible at home.
So, to keep this simple, I want to focus on an uncomplicated routine anyone can do. It’s as easy as 1, 2, …3
First is the Prep work.
If you want to get results, then you need to make sure your skin is turning over.
Most pigmentation runs very deep in the skin - therefore we need to exfoliate the upper layers so our treatments can get deeper into the skin and so that the discoloration can be sloughed off.
If you aren’t currently exfoliating daily, then this is going to get tricky as the treatments won’t likely penetrate deep enough.
So how does that work? You need to start using acids and retinoids. An acid cleanser morning and evenings… plus Vitamin A at night will speed up cellular turnover.
But remember look for Retinol that is very yellow - like our retinol molecular serums. If it’s not yellow… it’s most likely not potent enough to get results… I’ll cover that in another video.
Ok, so Step Two:
Luminate.
So, in order to brighten and luminate the skin we have to focus on two elements. Fading the current melanin in the skin and preventing the formation of new pigmentation.
That’s where certain ingredients like hydroxy acids, polyphenols like Resveratol (you know the anti-aging ingredient in red wine and blueberries?…. very key), and other lighteners come in to play. And for us, we stick with our Fade Bright Lightening gel which we’ve sold thousands of, and have hundreds of reviews from people who’ve used it to get real results.
Typically, that will take about 4-6 weeks. Luckily, one bottle lasts about 3 months … so you’ll be able to really see results before you need any refills.
So, the last piece of the puzzle is Protection.
Now, if you’re going to put in the work to fade those pesky spots, the last thing you want to do is take a step backward for every step forward.
And the key to this is avoiding the sun and using SPF.
This one I almost consider a no-brainer - but it needs to be mentioned because some people aren’t putting on the appropriate SPF every day. If you are dealing with pigmentation, you absolutely MUST put on an SPF of at least 40…preferably 50 …. If you are spending time outdoors remember to REAPPLY!
One single application just will not do for a day at the beach with the kids. Apply every few hours and wear a large hat. *Large brim hats are IN - trust me!. Rock it and look like a super star wherever you go WHILE protecting your skin.
Another ingredient that protects the skin is Vitamin C. Use our High Octane Vitamin C to protecting the skin from UVA and UVB damage - all while promoting pigmentation reduction and brightening in the skin.
But a word of warning. Don’t buy a lightening product that just includes a little bit of Vitamin C. The addition of this vitamin in everyday products is just a pointless “sales pitch” to make the product sound more effective. Don’t count on a daily cream or serum to give you the high amounts you need. Get a special Vitamin C product only.
Now there is also a bonus level to this process.
Especially if you have melasma, or deeper pigmentation.
You’re going to want to use a Peel.
Now you can go the traditional route and use peels like
1. Lactic 50% if you are sensitive. You can do this 1x per week. Or…
2. Mandelic 40% is great for all non-sensitive types. You can do this 1x per week. Or…
3. TCA 13% for facial use… or 20% for body use … or those that are advanced peelers.
Or, use our new Dream Peel, which is the strongest, low irritation peel around. If you’ve ever been afraid of “the burn” from acid peels, then you might want to check this one out. You can put it on a few nights in a row and peel without all the acids and complications…

Hey Jennifer , love your videos and how you explain all in detail ! I want to know if melasma starts in dry crusts , I have been getting dry crusts on my forehead which look red brown and when the crusts peel away it has left dark pigmentation spots , I don’t know if this is melasma I mean does melasma start with dry crusts on the skin ? I don’t know if it’s a side effect of me using arbutin liquorice root , mulberry lightning products for 6 years non stop . Until I stopped using 2 years ago . Is this melasma then ?

You don't layer hydroxy acids,... so you will only apply that lactic 1x. With HA you keep them on for a longer time frame if you want a better peel. Try for 10 minutes or more with lactic - it is very mild.

I'm using the whole regimen for aging (along with my typical tretinoin that I've been using for quite some time with no issues) & just started the mandelic peel. I did the whole series of the lower concentration & just started the mandelic 40 series (3 wks in) - my face has got light flakes, dry, scaley & irritated looking. What should I do... you don't exfoliate right after - do you?

The skin after a CROSS treatment can definitely get darker for a week or more. That is to be expected. Let it fade back and protect from the sun. **If you are saying it has been WEEKS.... and you still are dealing with PIH.. then start treating your discoloration with a melanin inhibitor like our Fade Bright or hydroquinone.

The marks left after acne are called PIH *post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The best way to get rid of these is to use retinol every single evening. Not only will this help you to AVOID getting acne - by clearing out your pores - it will also help your skin to heal more quickly. So use www.platinumskincare.com/retinol-molecular-serums-10-20-30/ get the .20%. Another option is what we have recommended in the video. Fade Bright 2x per day and SPF 50 as your last product each morning. The SUN causes the PIH to get darker. Keep skin protected. Take a look at controlling your acne more here: www.platinumskincare.com/moms-of-teens-with-acne/

Actually, that is entirely possible. NOT just being open in between a 10 minute peel session though. Only .. for example... if left open for long periods of time over the course of several months. Then yes.. the water can start to evaporate and the intensity of the peel will become more concentrated.
