This will only work if u have already SIGN IN to your account. Meaning: u already CAN login into your account in one sort of way. U cant bypass the 2 factor authentication.. which sucks

I m signed into my Microsoft account that was created 15 years ago…the recovery phone number is a land line that was disconnected years ago. When I attempt to change this by attempting to go to advanced settings…I get sent a code to a number that doesn’t exist anymore…and I cannot proceed beyond this point

I wanted to update my phone number. When I went to "update security info" the promt came up saying they'd text my old phone a verification code so I can update the info. I don't have the number anymore, so that really does me no good. I can't add numbers or alternate email addresses without a verification code that will be sent to a number that is no longer mine. Microsoft customer support is basically just an automated reply. I think the lesson I've learned is to just use Gmail.

This is the problem I'm having as well. When you get a new phone number usually the last thing you are thinking of is your email access. having trouble finding how to get this problem resolved. I can access the microsoft account and email but if I try to do anything in the account it tries to text the old number.

I waited 30 days but it still says wait 30 days

Went to advanced security settings and the only option I have is to verify my contact e-mail in order for them to send a security code. It's been nearly an hour and they still haven't sent me a code to verify my identity. No drop-down menu to change my telephone number.

I’ve been trying to change my phone number from landline (which was originally set up) to my mobile phone. I’ve made all the changes and can see the new number in my security settings but the system is still calling the landline. Any ideas how I get the change to be activated across the whole system?

Hello Leo, Thank you for this video. Actually it doesn´t work at all for me. I went through all the procedures, exactly as you explained. In fact I did this about a year ago. All I need to do is update my phone number. When I attempt to update the info, they ask for an alternate e-mail. The one I provided was refused by microsoft so I created another one. When I do that, they say it´ll take 30 days to replace my security info. I even chatted with a person from support and I could not convince him I was me and that all I wanted to do was to update my phone info. Microsoft is the worst tech company in the universe.

Hi i went to change my security info thinking i needed to do that to get a new password and now i cant cancel it because of an old number i cant send a code to. There is a 30 day wait period before rhe security info changes and im worried this number will screw me over. Any help or info would be greatly apreciated.

Doesn't work for the person I am helping. When she goes to Security Basics and clicks Advanced Security Options, instead of opening the expected page with her security options, it pops up a Microsoft Verify Your Identity box with only an option to send a text to the number she no longer has. Since she cannot get a text to that number to get a code for verification, she cannot add her correct phone number or anything else. The only other options in this popup box are "I have a code" and a link in the box that says "I don't have any of these" and that link opens the next box that says "For your protection, replacing your security info takes 30 days" and says "We'll help you update your security info, which you can use to sign in 30 days later" What?!

Problem is for when changing the number, it sends a recovery code to your old number for verification. However some of us don't have access to the original cell number on the account. So instead microsoft makes you wait 30 days. . 30 days? jeez

Your Microsoft Account has an email address of some sort. Please follow the account recovery or lost password steps as offered by Microsoft. If the recovery process doesn't work for you -- maybe you don't have the recovery email or phone -- MAKE SURE to follow the instructions CAREFULLY and COMPLETELY. If the recovery process can't be made to work, and there is no customer service (common with free services), then I know of no way to recover the account. If that's your situation I'm very sorry. Try signing in on other devices, might give you the option to use another email to log into your account instead

I can't help. All I can do is point you at the Microsoft recovery process. If that can't be made to work then I know of no alternatives. I will say you're not alone in reaching this point, and that it's stupid that need you to have the very thing you don't and are trying to correct.

Hi Leo, After my Laptop updated the BIOS, my laptop froze on blue screen asking for Bit Recovery Key, so I needed to find 8n my Microsoft Account.... BUT the number saved in Security needed to be changed, so I've had to change my mobile number and wait 30 days... All the while my Laptop is frozen until I get the Bit Recovery Key! Is there any way to expedite the 30 days please ?

I can't change my new number in my Xbox account

accept I can't get into microsoft security due to the code being sent to my old cell number. . so I have to wait 30 days. Technically this is bad on microsoft's part. Yeah i get it. Security is important. I myself am a Cyber Security Engineer and understand why security is important. @@donbiagio1 Oh, that. Yeah, no, I'm sorry but that's staying. It's critical for two reasons: it does make the mouse pointer more visible to all, and perhaps most important, it's how *I* keep track of the pointer. I really rely on it. That being said I'll try hard not to move the mouse randomly -- I know I often "talk" with the pointer, kinda like talking with your hands. Thanks for letting me know, though.

a small bit of confusion: A family member has a Microsoft account but never did have any mobile number associated or linked to it. The Microsoft account is about 7 years old. Also, this family member NEVER does use the Microsoft account.
