All the double-talk drove me up the wall. No wonder she’s divorcing. Could you live with that?! The actual answer to the “Do you have the inheritance” question was no. But she didn’t want to look bad, so she implied yes. That’d be like saying……. “Hi! I’m a millionaire! Oh, I don’t have a million dollars yet - But since I’m following Dave Ramsey, and starting on the Baby Steps, I’ll be a millionaire in 30 years. So I consider myself a millionaire now, since I’ll be one later!” 😵‍💫 My rant is ended. Dave rocks. Especially in this call. Go Dave. And go George, for the assist.

I feel like y’all may have missed what she’s really asking about “how do I budget for the month/s ahead”. Tell her to write down or use a spread sheet, all the ordinary expenses; Rent/mortgage, utilities-gas, electric, water, trash, phones, etc, then figure out how much you drive and what that costs, how often do you fill up your tank and how much is it, $60/week, every 2 weeks? Just itemize everything you can think of and start from there. If you don’t know exactly make some reasonable estimates, are you buying groceries for just yourself or do you have 3 kids to feed also. See if you can find your current utility bills, or go into your bank account and see if they’re being paid automatically and you can see oh we paid &485 for our electric bill in July and only 70 in December but then the heating oil bill went through the roof. You can add up the past 12 months and average it out and see ok we pay an average of $120/month, that gives you a starting point to plan from, then say your current home is 2200sf but you’re going to rent a 1-bd apt for 6 mos then you can probably cut most of your utilities in half, of course cell phone usage bill isn’t probably going to change. Bear in mind in most cases if you don’t already have your name on the utility bill, like your internet service, maybe your husband set it up, then you will probably have to pay a setup and/or first-time customer deposit fee so you’ll have to budget that into your first month’s startup costs. Be sure you don’t forget things like car insurance, health insurance, any other fees you might easily forget about like fast-track being on autopay. Super easy to forget that $30 or $60/month. I find Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel great for these things, but a simple itemized handwritten ledger is fine as well. Don’t forget medications, doctor’s office co-pays, all these little things add up.

they they talking month to month. budget yearly. some costs are paid yearly, some fluctuate by season. i got annoyed with the changing of the story too but i think it's not that she's confused. i think she just did not want to waste airtime going through the minutia of it all when it really did not matter for the advise she was asking. of course in hindsight it took longer because she did not put the minutia first but her intentions were good - to not waste their time. she is not confused or in two minds about anything. i feel like dave does this a lot. he makes snap judgements based on very little. a tone of voice. a way something gets communicated. very unfair way to judge a situation or person. i'm not sure why he can't look at himself and correct because once or twice he has done an about turn when he get more info. i've heard him say oh i though this or that and oh well in that case i take back what i just said. i just think well don't make assumptions! ask before you go off on one.

It really is marital property and she knows it by her statement I am holding off getting till after the divorce I dont want this money tangled up in the divorce. If it was legal he would have told her that he new its not
