How Do Electric Vehicles Work?

Ғылым және технология

Ever wondered how EVs get from A to B? Is it essentially the same as an internal combustion car, but wired up to a giant battery? Or is there some altogether more subtle trickery afoot?

    Excellent explanation on how an electric motor works. I’m a mechanical engineer and all I know about electrical is, “twinkle, twinkle little star power equals I squared R”. That got me through the one electrical engineering class I had to take as part of the curriculum.

    There's an innovation about to be launched, an electric generator without use of any kind of fuel nor inverter and noiseless. This will be implemented into vehicles in latest year to come.

    i hate it when schools do that. they're just trying to make as much progress as possible with getting through the chapters/powerpoints without making sure the kids/students actually understand the material. kids are basically learning the material as a few magic phrases or equations that will get them the mark rather than deeply understanding it. schools now are more about rotary memorization that actual learning.

    Can Electric engines produce more power than combustion engines?

  • @yesyes-om1po

    @yesyes-om1po

    Жыл бұрын

    @@athulbabu1550 technically no, but also yes, electric cars don't have gears, thats why they always seem so fast and accelerate so fast, Their torque and acceleration is like a combustion car being in 1st gear all the time. This also means electric vehicles don't usually have a very high top speed which is why EVs aren't used in racing yet. I'd also imagine that any puncture of the lithium batteries in an EV almost always causes spontaneous explosion and is impossible to put out compared to oil or gas fires

Keep the electronics clean and protected(waterpoofed) and you got yourself a decent mode of transport And if you really look around there are little electric motors literally everywhere on our day-to-day lives even in your phone. Norway is closing in on a 80% EV market share at the moment. The last couple of months 70% of all new cars has been electric, and this number is steadily increasing every month. Wouldn't surprise me if we have 90%+ by the end of next year. With long distances being a thing in Norway, short range EV's are only usable in the cities, but with increasing capacities of up to and above 600 km in one charge, the sales of EV's are skyrocketing. • @KylixTheFur

    I've thought about this too, but my theory is it'd be too impractical. The wheel wouldn't be big enough to house a generator that could supply enough power. It'd be marginal at best, but would be canceled out by the added weight of the materials in the wheel.

  • @evergreeninvest

    @evergreeninvest

    It doesn't charge with motion. It charges when braking. An Electric car captures the kinetic energy from braking and converts it into the electrical power that charges the vehicle's high voltage battery. This is know as Regenerative braking, which also slows the car down, which assists the use of traditional brakes. The same motor that is used to make the car move when accelerating acts as a electric generator when braking. This helps extend the range of the vehicle but because we accelerate more than we brake we will slowly deplete the battery and need to recharge.

If this is not true then, I must have performed a miracle every day I drove my gasoline car for the last 50 years or so. Over representation of electric car does not serve the cause of electric cars.

    I'm curious of your point. While technically you're right, there are many factors that go into it. The pedal opens a valve that lets air into the engine, more air equals more cycles of burning off the air, more cycles equals more torque to driveshaft, more torque equals faster spinning wheels, i.e. more speed. But as I'm typing this I wonder how the process works in an e.v., so I'm off to do more research.

    Excellent short video. But I am still a fan of ye olde combustion engine. Just for the take off. AND towing capacity. I don't see an EV winning a take off race from a standstill against an 8 cylinder engine. And sure EVs are great for confining your people to cities (the range of one charge), but what about the people who WANT to drive all around the continent, or tow heavy things like boats/caravans/other cars. Or live in the middle of nowhere and improvise their own fuel. Currently, I'm still seeing those cars constantly plugged in, or getting a charge from a generator brought to them by an oil fueled car.

    To be honest a gear box/transmission would not only increase the power of the electric motors but also the rang and battery health, Henry Ford noticed this about his cars, he had an engine with base power and rang but he realized by utilizing a gearbox/transmission he could double its power and fuel efficiency and engine life, the same can be said about electric motors, sure they might have more power on there own without the gear box but they gear box would take wear and tear off the ev motors and make the batteries go much further

    Sounds like combustion piston engines can be achieved without fossil fuels because kinetic energy can make friction heat and air burst intake devices do exist, as there was one famously featured on sharktank some years back...but it would probably be great for hybrid electric vehicles to have that...Very much wondering from this, instead of larger, more capacity batteries, maybe a smaller electric motor drives larger motor to drive the car...while smaller batteries recharge with mechanical features so as to avoid charging station needs until battery replacement necessary... Just very much feels like mechanical designs should be engineered to work synergistically with physics in order to optimize existing battery chemistry, but it does not seem like that's happening...Mechanical engineering only adds drag if defying physics and ignoring chemistry...but that should not be the state of modern technology which has grasp of all those sciences and more, if biochemistry is factored....Plus Quantum etc...

    When a 6lb battery can move a 3000lb vehicle 20/25 miles in snow, freezing cold, sizzling heat, up or down a mountain and still run the heater , AC, radio , power steering and other misc. accessories, like a convertible top movement or cell phone charging then Ev will have a chance, Maybe. There will still be charging issues , battery replacement issues and of course the ridiculous cost issues. Basically that's the E=mc2 of electric vehicles.

    Electric cars need fans ranging in number to 10 fans in the car, and all fans are directed to the fans, the batteries and the air conditioner, meaning the fan cools the fan, then the batteries, and holes are added in order to vent the fumes resulting from the heat of the batteries resulting from the external heat and pumping the fans In the battery room, the holes open and close manually and automatically by pressing a button. This is because the Gulf weather reaches a temperature of 49 Very high quality fans must be added to live and withstand operation and heat. It is also necessary to add a hand brake, which is a handle, placed under the steering wheel, and is connected to all electrical and energy systems in the car, so the task of the manual handle is as follows: killing the electric artery that supplies the car with electricity completely, in order to avoid any unexpected thing, such as extraneous viruses It could cause the brake systems to fail and cause a fatal accident. It is preferable to add a spare battery, so the task of the spare battery is to deliver the car for a distance of 30 km in order to stay away from places with high speeds. Those are my suggestions I hope it will be of use ALI SUROOR
