How Did You Miss THAT? | HOARDER HOUSE | Pt 21

Ойын-сауық

After returning from lunch, we spent our final hours digging through the house and clearing the bed in the bedroom. There were a few treasures hidden in plain sight.

Great finds. Thanks for sharing. It’s funny how one person will tackle a situation. It just seems they are going in circles with the cleaning process. Not sure how I’d deal with it but I’d have a different method for organizing it during the cleanup.

I have enjoyed these house salvage videos over the holiday week. There continues to be neato-jet stuff coming out of there. They may not be worth really big money, but I noticed the lucite candles that so many are keen to get. I hope you get more content out of the cataloging and “what sells” out of this stuff. I for one would be watching for that. 👍

Recently, I’ve read some disparaging remarks about Jocelyn’s videos. I can only think this comes from her major business growth. She’s no longer getting her pieces solely at the Goodwill, flea market, or other thrifts. Yes, she will keep sourcing there. But she’s also paying pretty significant prices. Except, she’s still profiting. Jocelyn shares her thought processes when she buys a $300 piece. Yep. And it’s usually to say she thinks she’s got room to profit. Jocelyn is friends with Dagney. Probably one of the most sincere people on KZread. And they’re friends. They have a great time shopping together. Dagney isn’t going to hang out with an arrogant biatch. I also think Drew wouldn’t be with Jocelyn if she were arrogant or pretentious. When you grow your business, you have a whole lot of decisions to make. Most of them are tough decisions relating to risk. Jocelyn and Drew are making these decisions. In fact I’ve been impressed with their business model. They have carrying costs that warrant feeding the beast every single day. Who knows what the value of their inventory is. (It’s not our business anyway). It’s all sitting on eBay waiting to be sold and paid for. It’s a LOT. None of which would be possible if not for hiring employees. With that comes payroll and payroll taxes. They’ve seemed to hire great staff. But any time you hire people, there’s risks involved there too. They both seriously are working damned hard. I’d bet some days are 18 hour days and some weeks are all 7 days. Maybe all weeks are. But they’ve managed to carve out a great KZread channel, bring us along - many places like this hoarder house - and invite us to see art glass and other antiques that I know at least I’d NEVER see. That Jocelyn has grown and is more confident should not be taken as putting on airs. I think she’s paid her dues. We don’t likely know 75% of what she did to get where she is today. And still, they all seem to have a whole lot of fun. The way they treat this hoarder house without judgment is truly remarkable. I just wanted to post this because I do not think Jocelyn is capable of being a snob or pretentious. And I totally disagree with anyone that does.

What a terrific post!! Yes, I notice from the early videos to now, Jocelyn grew and gotten wiser. Vidoes like these are amazing becuase you can see the transformation in people's journey whatever that may be. Also, it's evident they both work very hard. I worked in an antique store in sales around 7 to 9 years and we had 132 individual antique dealers in this warehouse like building. Yes, antique dealing is a lot of work!! BTW, does anyone know what happened to Joyclyn's friend who was an older lady who would go to thrift shops with her? She seems so nice. Dagney seems like she would be super fun to shop with! She is knowledgeable as well. And of course, this couple who owns this house seem like very nice people. Jocelyn and Andrew have super fun, and very nice friends!

I still can’t believe this! This filthy, trash infested pit keeps giving beauty and magic and treasure over and over and over! Absolutely unbelievable!! I want to know the back story so very much! How does one collect these beautiful treasures but not organize and display them to enjoy them…rather, wrap up or keep in their store bags and hid away? How would you even know what you had? Did they live here or was this just a storage house? I hope it was a storage house snd they intended on opening a shop or building a dream home to display the many MCM beauties. I can’t even begin to imagine being able to buy those lovely pieces, even in the past. Their taste was impeccable, beautiful!! I hope we will someday know of the mystery of this place. I haven't watched all of the series(yet), or in order, but in the ones that i have seen I have noticed something i think is odd. You unwrap seemingly breakable pieces, I assume wrapped to protect them, and don't re-wrap them. Do the pieces not get chipped, flea-bites or scratches on them from placing it in boxes? Just curious. Love the series and your channel.

I’m pretty certain that the gooseneck lamp with a duck’s head is a George Kovacs piece. One that size, cleaned up, would go for around $800+, so don’t worry about the oxidation, which can be cleaned with tomato ketchup, paste, or sauce, which is an easy way to clean and polish brass. Rub a thin coat of one of these on the surface of the lamp and let it sit for at least an hour. Once done, clean it thoroughly with hot soapy water. You can also use a mixture of equal portions of white vinegar, flour and salt. Mix it well and apply it to the surface of the tarnished lamps. Let it sit for at least an hour & rinse it with warm water and let it dry. All the tarnish will disappear and the lamps will look as good as new. You can also use WD-40 - let it sit for about 15-30 minutes. Take a clean cloth and rub the lamp in circular motions drying and buffing it up.
