as an educator myself, Gregory's speech had me tearing up for sure. what I think is so special about this show is that while it's a very funny comedy, it's able to balance that with real and heartfelt moments that will have you tearing up for real. ♥

This episode made me tear up several times. I agree that the speeches from Barb, Melissa, and Gregory were so good. Really hated to see Janine getting lashed out by that parent. She’s a wonderful teacher who cares a lot and she didn’t deserve to be treated like that. She just shouldn’t have waited this long to talk to the parent, but I guess that was a rookie mistake. Side note: 6:35 “I want to go to Bone Town, bro. It sounds delicious.” Taken out of context, that line is wild. 🤣

Man I feel for Janine. I get the parent is frustrated but there is only so many things an educator can do. Those classroom disruptions, yelling out and throwing things will start to add. The bigger he gets the worse it can probably get. Honestly Janine eventually did go to the last resort which was call the parents once his classroom behaviors became too much. And yes it is hard to control a child within a school building no matter what age the child is. Especially a student that at the end of the day is going to decide to do what they want to do at school no matter what anyone says to them. Its a team effort and educators cant do everything.

Back where I'm from, they say "Home travels abroad." So, behavioral things start at home and reflect a student's home life. I work as a teacher now, teaching kids, and some parents really think that it's the teacher's job to raise the kids. I teach in Japan, and so many kids have no basic manners, and they're often not taught to the point where some adults over here have some really gross habits like you wouldn't believe. But the parents have unrealistic expectations regardless. That mom seems to have anger issues, and she taught her son to be impatient and angry when things aren't the way they want them.

What’s upsetting is that there are a lot of trash parents like her. They expect teachers to be their kids teachers AND nannies but don’t want teachers to put their kids in their place. They don’t want teachers to raise their voice or anything. They blame teachers for everything bad their kid is doing. Parents don’t want to parent anymore.

For real. And no wonder that kid been acting up, it's probably acceptable behaviour seen straight from mom. I do not envy the western teachers of today, cause back when I was growing up teachers traded out leniency for authoritativeness *real* quick. And most parents *encouraged* that where I live. Telling your teacher to "shut up" would be met with the exact same response as telling your mom to "shut up". If the kid's parents were any good, the kid would know better than to make that grave mistake. Don't matter if they feared a sore behind or feared losing their nintendo for a year. They feared consequences. At least the great teachers knew how to turn a kid around. Hate that Janine had to listen to that garbage cause if it were my non-teaching ass I'd have gone straight to accusing that woman of being the basic shitty inattentive "working" parent who should've swallowed instead of birthing. I got livid.

The mom was out-of-line and rude for sure. I remember reading a compilation list of the worst things teachers heard from parents and, sadly, this scene didn't even cover the utter vitriol that real-life teachers experience. Parents can be awful.

I know teachers deal with horrible parents, and I don't think I could handle that. That kid could have been suspended, but instead Janine spoke with the parent to figure out a solution to his acting out. Some parents just want a babysitter, and don't appreciate when a teacher is offering help beyond that.
