My paternal great grandfather was born in St. James Parish in 1890, three of his grandparents were Indian labourers who arrived way back in the 1860s, making them some of the earliest Indians to come to the island!

When the slaves got their freedom, they left the plantations and Indians was brought over to do the work. I'm proud to say I'm 100% Jamaican Indian. My ancestors arrived in Jamaica in 1860's, from the north-east & Bombay(Mumbai). Many Indians, Chineses and Whites mostly left in 1962 fearing what might happen to the Government of Jamaica as my parents did, eventhough my dad had a very high paying job and a comfortable lifestyle. Lots of us are currently living in another country, are returning to retire in their home land. Jamaica is a beautiful island 💛

Not all of the Indians had low trade jobs and were suffering, or destitute. Some of them did well and passed down this inheritance to their children and grand children. My grandfather had a lot of land that he inherited and also owned and which he also passed down to his two children, my dad and his sister. He also held a somewhat high position, as a DC, (District Constable) in charge of the area, or community. His sister was a school principal and his cousin was a justice of the peace. He enforced the law, as everyone in Jamaica, knows what a DC does. In those days, a DC, was a much higher position, than today. Especially, if you had money. I am talking about the end of the 19th century, early 20th century.

No exact figure regarding the demographic Indian population in Jamaica. I do know for example if you take a country such as the United Kingdom thousands of full Indian Jamaicans inc families/children migrated there who are of the Windrush generation of 1948. So from 1948/50s/60s/70s/80s onwards up to the 2000s there has been a steady migration flow of Indian Jamaicans & I'm stating only J.A. Indians & NO other ethnic group from Jamaica. Also I have viewed videos of recent arrivals to Jamaica from people from INDIA who have settled in Jamaica. Jamaica's also has a high mixed population especially with Africans & Indians.

He is right, the original Jamaicans, were the Arawak Indians, and the Taino Indians. Both of which were the original natives, of the island. The Indians from South East Asia, who came later, were the newcomers, along with the Africans and the other races, who now make up the racial and cultural, heritage of Jamaica. I am now wondering though, if the Indigenous people of the island, do not still make up the majority of the population, and that maybe they did not all, or mostly die out, as we have been told. Just as how the African American blacks, are starting to realized, that they have been living in America, for way longer than four hundred years and that the history of slavery in America, is turning out to be a lie. Or mostly a lie. Such as that it was the Indigenous blacks, in America, who were sent to Africa as slaves and not the other way around, mostly. The way that . I see it, is that the black people living in the West, and in other parts of the world, are the lost tribes of Israel. And Israel and Canaan, were and still are in Africa. So whether these Indigenous people of the Americas and the Caribbean came long ago, or recently, they still came from the continent of Africa, since that is where the land of Canaan is located.

Can you explain then the African words, that are in the Jamaican language, or dialect?. Can you also explain the culture of the Maroons, which is similar to the Ashanti and Akan people in Ghana. As well the Igbos of Nigeria?. The history of slavery is mostly a lie, but not a total lie. I tend to believe in the bible, and when God said that he was gong to bring the Israelites, back to Egypt in ships, meaning back in bondage, because of their disobedience, then that is exactly what happened. They came from Africa, The Middle East, and other places and yes, when they came, they also saw other black people, who were indigenous to the Americas, including, the Caribbean. But not all of our ancestors came from Africa, as you can see from the comments, on this page. Some of our ancestors, came from South Asia (India), as is the topic of this video. The people in Jamaica and the Caribbean islands, are very mixed.
