How Did Francis Ngannou get SO GOOD?
Francis Ngannou is taking over. The fighter from Cameroon is coming off of the biggest win of his career. And because of it, he is now the UFC heavyweight champion. But this was something that was expected to happen back in 2018. He quickly rose up in the UFC heavyweight rankings with 6 straight finishes. And not only did he get a shot at the title, but he was also becoming a huge star. And that popularity was bound to explode had he captured the belt. But he was unable to and afterwards, he lost again. And all the hype that he built for himself early on was quickly fading away. But now in 2021, he is back on track. So how did Francis Ngannou get so good?

Dana White made comments about his ego, but also fed into his ego for the entirety of the build up. Dana is the first one to jump onto a hype train and he was the one who kept spouting all of that bs about his punches having more force than a speeding car. Dana is like that toxic friend who’s there for you only when you’re doing great.

yes because dana only sees dollar signs. As soon as he believes you're becoming an unpopular low-revenue fighter, he will trash you like week old chinese food and start to hype up the next great thing. That said, there's more to it than what's shown on the surface. Watch some videos about the Francis vs ufc contract negotiations and you'll understand why dana really made those comments about francis ego, and why dana did not himself put the heavy weight championship belt on francis after he won it.

I never wrote him off on his first Stipe match. Francis' knockout power and aggression got him his opportunity for the belt. But it was clear, that he lacked actual mixed martial art skills, and thats what Stipe took advantage of. That loss what necessary for Francis to relook his strategy and rebuild. It was actually scary how much he improved in the second fight. Such control and composure, yet utilising his power with precision. And his takedown defence sealed the deal. I believe he is going to hold that belt for a very long time.

I'm a fan of Francis but I don't know how much he has improved really. Besides being more patient and improved takedown defense, I don't see much difference. He still has short fights were he finishes quickly, just like he did before his first title fight. Maybe he has made significant improvements but his fights are not long enough to see them. Maybe he doesn't need them when you can end a fight at any time.

@@AlexanderHernandez-sb7lq Patience and takedown defense are the only two things he needed anyways. Patience so he doesn't tire himself and gas early and takedown defense because if someone isn't able to take him down quickly, they are in big trouble, just like we saw in his second fight with Stipe. Those two things were his biggest weaknesses and he improved them.

One of the best Lightweights ever, and perhaps the best Lightweight to never win an undisputed title. Entertaining fighter who went on an impressive win streak and deserved a title shot but wasted his potential with bizarre training and preparation habits. Took too much damage which was a contributing factor to his decline, father time caught up to him and unfortunately it just so coincided with him facing top-tier talent again leading to those devastating defeats to Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira. The game had evolved and Tony was past his prime. Tony's not done just yet, it all depends how he fares with his new training camp against Beneil Dariush. If he loses this though his time at the top will be finished for good relegating him to gatekeeper status.

Stipe needs a long time off as that was a nasty KO. Even though he lost to Francis there's no shame in losing to him, as Francis is the future of the Heavyweight division. Stipe could go for the trilogy fight, or fight Derrick Lewis but he should also consider retirement as an option because he's 38 years old and will be 39 this year nearing 40. Stipe isn't getting any younger, taken quite a bit of damage in his career, has a family to attend to and has nothing left to prove. He's already a legend and a lock for the UFC Hall of Fame.
