How GOOD was Khabib Nurmagomedov Actually?
Khabib Nurmagomedov is without a doubt one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. The wrestler from Dagestan dominated everyone that came his way. This lead to him capturing the UFC Lightweight championship, a belt he defended 3 times. And those title fights did huge numbers for the promotion. He retired undefeated with a record of 29-0, leaving the sport as the pound for pound best fighter. But that doesn't necessarily make him the greatest of all time. So how good was Khabib Nurmagomedov actually?

people don't realize that khabib had 200 sambo matches and all his fights prior to ufc were not in a cage. his opponents in ufc were handicapped by ufc rules and the octagon which is why he dominated it even more soo than prior ufc competition. all these guys out of the caucasus region are dominant if not really really good competitors in the UFC cause they have been facing tough competition prior to UFC. if khabib fought 16 bums , he would've been exposed in the UFC but that never even happened not even for a round.

Ben Askren raised an excellent point when discussing the Khabib vs Jones title defences on the Schmozone. He mentioned that the UFC didn't give Khabib a title shot until very late in his career. If he'd been given the chance earlier, he would've had many more championship defences considering he retired undefeated.

Made RDA, Dustin, Connor, Gaethjie, Barboza, Johnson and Iaquinta look like amateurs. It's just a shame we never got to see the Ferguson or Holloway fight, or a fight with Eddie Alvarez. Still, he is surely the greatest light-weight of all time. I'd have love to have seen Khabib vs BJ Penn in his prime, that would have been like a dream.

Yes, but I doubt Ferguson or Holloway would stand much of a chance. Whoever wanted to outwrestle and outgrapple Tony has had a huge amount of success. Holloway would be a mismatch. If Dustin was able to outwrestle him, imagine Khabib then. I think Penn fight would be similar to GSP-Penn 2. Prime GSP beats Khabib, but I disagree with those who say that the fight between them should have happened now. GSP-Khabib at this point of GSP's career would be like Marciano-Louis or Holmes-Ali in boxing.

People discussing Jones is better forgets about something called INTEGRITY, remember all the times Bones was caught using roids? All the partying and drug abuse? The countless times he got involved with law enforcement? How about the countless eye pokes and the twelve to six elbow? He might have more defenses but his career is stained all around, while Khabib was never caught using roids, and never caught in controversy ( despite jump kicking conor team which was hilarious)

@@zenmorte2793 Before I get into this just want to say Khabib is my favorite fighter and I agree that his legacy is much greater than Jones. However, Jones's USADA pops aren't as prolific or as damning as many seems to think. The partying and cocaine usage may speak to him as a person but not as a fighter. The eye pokes are the biggest issues for me, but 12 to 6 elbows are a jokes. Overall, I think the steroid and eyepokes are what prevent him from having a great legacy. But I do think he is the best fighter of all time. Silva has the same steroid issue, I don't really care about his recent losses though as he is clearly over the hill.

@Zesty Meatballs His entire career? He popped 3 times, once was ruled to be a tainted supplement and the other was remnants and not a new intake. I said that his steroid usage tainted his record but he clearly hasn't been using them his whole career. His fights with DC are marred by his PED usage which is the main shadow upon his legacy as a fighter for me, but that isn't enough to demerit his claim as the GOAT, imo.

The question is who is the best mixed martial artist of all time, not who has the most title defenses. Khabib had to win 9 fights in a row to get a shot at the title, Jon had to win only 3 to get a shot. Does anyone have any doubts that if Khabib was given the shot earlier when he deserved it he would crush every single opponent in the toughest division, barely lose a round and have lot more title defenses? And do it without even needing PEDS? When Jones vacated his title I had doubts he could win a rematch against Reyes. When GSP left I had doubts he would win a rematch against Hendricks. In the other hand Khabib was on "another level" and I had no doubts he would dominate anyone in the division, hands down he is the GOAT.

i love khabib as well, but youre love for him has you bending the rules of the goat to what khabib is good at. I certainly think that khabib is top 3 or at the very least top 5, but the fact is longevity plays a huge role in the goat convo. Imagine if Jordan stayed retired after winning three titles? People wouldnt be calling him the goat despite him being arguably the best. The question is who is the GREATEST, not the best, and though i think a couple more years khabib would have it, his retirement restricts him from us seeing more which we need in order to put him over gsp and others

GSP and jones both showed us over a dozen times their greatness at the highest level, so I need to see that from khabib to compare. Trust me, I actually hate jon jones and i think hes a little bitch for taking PEDs as well as other things, but objectively his resume overwhelms that of khabibs. In my own list ive got gsp khabib then jones, but objectively Id have to put jones ahead. Each to their own in the end, but dont expect many others who arent muslim to agree with you. ps i think reyes beat jones the first time :)

@@ignoranceisstrengthpodcast3294 not with his record lol he will always be remembered, maybe not everyone’s goat, but he’s literally in the history books as a champion for 10+ years. I mean even if he popped for steroids 90% of his career was against older more experienced juiced up men when he won the belt at 23 so I find it hard to criticize his career until maybe his last 2-3 fights

the reason we are talking about khabib as GOAT is not because of numbers that people are comparing with Jon jones and GSP but because of his dominance this guy has never been beaten up and he always looked to be fighting with kids because even toughest opponents like Gaethje, Conor and Poirier were upto no match for him Can GSP or Jon Jones could say that coz those guys took a lot of beat from DC and Reyes etc THATS WHY KHABIB IS THE GOAT

The reason why Khabib looked so dominant was because he was fighting low level competition, a lot of his opponents were ranked 20. Only his last 5 fights were against worthy competitors which I will give him credit for and Khabib is great but he's nowhere near Jones or GSP

100% agree with the greatness and much more challenging career GSP has had. Plus the times his body has broken down and he again n again kept coming back is a virtue of a true competitor and just utter dedication and hardwork. Taking nothing away from the mountain climbing, bear fighting and never losing a round kinda guy who absolutely dominated everybody. Although knowing his game plan everytime, nobody was ever able to stop him. It was a career which nay have the GOAT status 20% questionable but FLAWLESS status undoubtedly belongs to Khabib. Im a GSP fan and I'm a Khabib fan. Would've love to see and pay for tha fight. But so be it. Huge thanks and best wishes to both the fighters and conquerors.
