hey everyone - super grateful for the kind response on SNS so far, but just wanted to apologize for my poor presenting. >_> i've never done video before and was really focused on reading my words off the teleprompter for the voiceover...i wanted to do a looser take or two at the end and now seeing 3 seconds of it i really wish we'd done that! oh well...try to focus on the content, not the form...😆 thanks for watching!

HYYH was so so important to making BTS who they are today. Their image change was the smartest thing they could have done. I really think a lot of people saw their 2013-14 image as "poser" (which it frankly was). Their music has always been great, but their image was at such a clash with their personalities and generally middle class upbringing. in HYYH they embraced their boy band status and it lead to a much more authentic experience. This image shift in I Need U combined with really eye-catching choreography in Dope was a recipe to gather a lot of attention. This video is right on the money, you need to be genuine in your art. I don't need to have the same life experiences as you to find you relatable if I can feel the honesty in what you're creating.

Sometimes its hard to introduce or explain bts to those who dont understand because its the combination of so many things and each of those things can appeal to so many different people. Whether its the lyrics, the choreography, the storyline, their sincerity as a team, as artists. Their humility and kind personalities. Its everything combined. They created the most beautiful moment in life and it resonated with so many. Now, as they remind us and thank us for it often, they are still living in their most beautiful moment in life.

This is really well researched! Thank you! I've always said that BTS are special because they have the full package skill-wise, which is backed by authenticity, honesty, and credibility, which is what you pointed out as well. Some groups may have dabbled in difficult/taboo themes (although usually not too on the mark to avoid backlash) with their "dark concepts", but the difficult themes BTS tackled weren't there just for a concept. They had a vision of what they wanted to talk about, what issues needed to be voiced, and they built on it since the beginning. Some members talked about things like the importance of voting, democracy and democratic uprisings in their music way before the first members of BTS were even discovered. They never shied away from socio-political and economic critique despite being censored many times for it, because they really wanted to have a discussion about those things that most people avoided because they are taboos, instead of just doing it because the concept required it (to give off the image of a rebel, usually... unfortunately). They personally take part in the writing/producing of a big part of their discography, and even in those songs where they do less (because they have certain deadlines they made for themselves or are dictated by circumstances, and they are super busy, so it's normal they'd need some help), they still communicate with their team the direction they want that song and album to go, so it all fits well together both within the album and within the whole discography + with the direction they want to go. This is what ultimately leaves a very outstanding mark on their music and makes them special and different compared to other groups. Many artists who have collaborated with them have expressed the fact that they're very honest, very determined and very hands-on with their music, and that they're ready to rewrite something again and again until it fits their vision. The latest to talk about this being Zara Larsson, who featured on A Brand New Day.

Authenticity is honestly what made me take notice of them. I already knew that the K-Pop industry could churn out incredible music with incredible vocals, but for a lot of groups there's always a sheen of artifice due to the string pulling of the companies. It's honestly what kept me away from BTS when they first started getting attention here in America. I thought it was just more of the same grind that would eventually chew them up and spit them out when they weren't successful anymore. It wasn't until I took the time to listen to the music and watch their interviews and hear their story and their message that it became apparent that something about them was different. Looking back over their careers, dropping their bad boy/hip hop persona and allowing the members to just be themselves on and off stage and make the music they want to make and their openness with ARMY is what hooked me. I've only recently become a fan, but I'm very impressed with that they've done for themselves. Here in America we tend to look at foreign artists performing in other languages as a passing niche fad to be amused by, but BTS have and continue to make a statement about the changing landscape of popular music in the the country.

Wow, 7 mins long & no typical comments like ‘because of their looks’? 😆 That’s such a relieved, tbh. Even as an ARMY I still think how crazy it is all the popularity & milestones that BTS has gained so far. That fact alone should be enough for any media to dig deeper and stop writing the old same songs of good looking, great dancing & cool videos. Anyway, looking forward for more! Thank you!

FINALLY ! Someone understands what I’ve been trying to explain some level of for the last 7 years. BTS are just extremely different as a group: The members themselves, the equilibrium you mentioned, the fact the rappers are real, they aren’t afraid to put explicit symbolism in their art, they dance like a dance crew, they make diverse music, have this rags to riches success story, and they have ALWAYS felt like human beings to their audience. From day 1 BTS have been posting vlogs (Bangtan Bombs) on their youtube channel. In all my years with Kpop never have I seen a group so unique, raw and real with their audience. It was around 2015 when BTS became the most famous Kpop group among the Western Kpop niche, yet they were virtually unknown in Korea’s saturated market. Western audiences LOVED this uniqueness while it was a weakness in Korea. Now after all their success, BTS on the surface seem like this superficial boyband with crazy fans and social media blah blah but what you said in the video is the truth and I hope one day more of the Western general public will truly understand why they’re legendary.

Thanks. I'm not an ARMY but I was really curious. It seems even crazier given the fact they came from a small company, in an industry where the three biggest companies has almost a monopoly of the market. Almost nobody cares to listen to small groups, in light of a huge, rich and aggressive market campaign of any of the Big 3, how it's called. They're veterans, market-savvy and always debuting new groups that were sure to succeed, just because they're from a large company. BTS is basically a miracle. Nobody could imagine some random people with little budget could get any success at all, let alone top their giant competitors.

this is the type of analises that BTS deserve. we're all so tired of media portraying their success by only SNS when it's clearly about the music. idk how many times i've said not even half of us would be this invested on the boys if it weren't for their art. thank you so much for this! really appreciate

So far this is the best analysis I've ever watched! I myself started stanning bts in 2016 with wings album, but their hyyh trilogy albums really hit me hard at that time. All the message and story line become the encouragement for me. And their earlier albums and videos just so how credibility they are and how they stick to that principle till now. Even tho suga stops doing review for products or their album, he showed us his studio which he built by his own hand. Then RM regularly talks with the fans about their production. From music view this video is 100% correct. However, beside their music, their bond to each other is also the reason why we keep supporting them so hard. From wanting to know, to be a girlfriend, to be a friend, now im feeling like a mom. I wish for their happiness after all. Thanks for the effort for this video!💜

Thanks for this beautiful coverage ..BTS bside tracks r so incredible with amazing sounds ,melody and messages.their songs pierce the heart.their whole discography is sooooo diverse covering different genres .so everyone will have something of their taste... Their songs are very relatable to life .like you will see your youth, agony, struggles, emotions , daily life though their songs .They talk about the issues others fear to talk like politics, educational drawbacks, Spoiled youth, youth's struggles, mental health, women empowerment , self love etc . Their albums nd songs or music videos r full of theories and references of books eg MOTS:persona was based on jungian concept etc which r very exciting .. in fine BTS seven members personality and talents are incredible themselves .. please check them out and give them chance casting ur predujices .. you will love them definitely ..

Thank you for actually researching the work THEY put in behind their success. It was their work that got them to were they are today. We Armies didn’t become armies because they were the biggest boy band and they had huge following but because we believed indefinitely in the art they chose to deeply share with us. Armies became armies because of their authenticity, hard work and message that they work so hard to share with us. This video reflects why army admires BTS so much and for doing that we’re so thankful to your research And level of professionalism that you kept toward our boys 💜💜💜

I really like this one. Fans love to nitpick individual albums and pit them against each other but when BTS' days are done it is their career as a whole that will be looked at. That consistency and building of the next album off the other will form a very strong picture. So whatever complaints you have or whichever album you think is the strongest, just know that without all that risk taking, experimentation and growth in sound and concept, BTS could not have come this far. More over, they would have reached a plateau long ago like many artists do and just remained there. But they've set a standard for evolving so there are no limits. Love, love, love BTS and this analysis.

Finally someone focusing on the fact that BTS writes and produces their own music, pointing out their hard work and talent. They’ve been constantly making amazing music and it’s not just a concept, it’s their own struggles and beliefs. They are so dedicated to their music and performances and that’s why they’re so successful. Armys admire and relate to their art, that’s one of the main reasons why we love and support them so much. BTS and army will stay working hard so that they’ll keep achieving their dreams.

Finally a well researched video about BTS, one that actually talks about their predecessors. A lot of people talk about K-Pop (most of the time it's BTS) like it just never existed before it became popular in America and groups like BIGBANG, 2NE1 and Seo Taiji and Boys never get the real credit they deserve for inspiring the groups that social media puts on a pedestal today.
