I am argentinean and I have a completely different opinion than yours. In the first 12 of those 16 years, we emerged from a socioeconomic crisis, paid a trillion-dollar debt to the IMF and became the country with the highest salaries in the entire region. Obviously not everything was perfect, but believing that adopting the same policies as Mauricio Macri in 2015-2019 will get us out of the problem those same policies got us into is absurd.

"Governments create monopolies in free markets by picking winners!" Literally never true, The United States government has repeatedly subsided the dumbest and least profitable entrepreneurs/investments (whilst being given better offers by people proven more competent) simply because they were wined and dined. Literally just look at the Cornelius Vanderbilt, specifically the man he initially worked for Gibbons, who took his rivals to court in the Gibbons V Ogden case just to eliminate their monopoly on the ferry industry (a monopoly that would have never existed if not for the government of New York) and subsequently ushering in lower prices and better services over the next decades. That's of course one example, but there's others, such as the retarded rail subsidies that were done by amount track laid, incentivizing long, cumbersome logistics networks that would never have been made simply because it's a waste of money and resources (most of these don't exist anymore... I wonder why...), then you have the FDIC (deposit insurance, basically a subsidy given if they colossal fuck up), which is basically telling banks "Hey, you know that thing called sanity and lending standards... fuck 'em".

These bold initial actions aim to significantly improve public finances in a manner that protects the most vulnerable in society and strengthen the foreign exchange regime. Their decisive implementation will help stabilize the economy and set the basis for more sustainable and private-sector led growth. IMF staff and the new Argentine authorities will work expeditiously in the period ahead. Following serious policy setbacks over the past few months, this new package provides a good foundation for further discussions to bring the existing Fund-supported program back on track.” Translation: We’re looking forward to seeing the American companies whose interests we serve, and the Argentinian companies that serve our interests, own a lot more of Argentina in the near future. @@TheTournesoul Here's some eye watering facts for you. In his inauguration speech, Milei mentioned that all shock economic programs were successful except for one in 1959. But let's look at Argentina's history. The military dictatorship in the 1970s, for instance, implemented neoliberal shock therapy which privatised everything and ended price and exchange rate controls, just like Milei is suggesting. But what exactly was the outcome? National debt tripled, poverty increased by 18%, buying power fell by 17%, and 20,000 businesses went bankrupt. And what about the neoliberal policies of 2001 that led to a nationwide protest (known as El Corralito, which left 39 protesters dead)? Or President Macri's economic policies that have actually put Argentina in the current debt and inflation mess? To quote Albert Einstein: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." It seems Milei's approach fits this description perfectly. Milei also said that gradual economic changes need financing, and that the country doesn't have any money. His supporters, who are probably hoping that the austerity measures that he is proposing won't affect them, will however soon realise the truth when they see their roads falling apart and their healthcare system collapsing. Milei's first action in office was also to reduce the number of government ministries from 18 to 8. In December Milei also sacked at least 5000 government employees as well. Lastly, Milei also stated that there's no choice but to cut services and implement shock therapy. But what this means for Argentina's workers is that they will lose their pensions, social security, and other public services they've paid for, all because they have to repay the public debt. Milei in fact blames them for this crisis, even though it's political policies like he is intending to implement that got them into this situation in the first place. So, what Milei proposes, actually, is essentially a more extreme version of the neoliberalism of the past, neoliberalism on steroids in other words. And as history has shown, these policies have brought nothing but misery to the people of Argentina.

Nobody wants 200% inflation and people look for alternatives and there are no really good ones around, which seem likely to win. Propaganda does its work and people fail to identify the least terrible option. But they pick one, which does not take away the past inflation but takes away the workers incomes, messes up everything else and the programme of whom was quite clearly communicated before?! What does a party, a candidate have to say, NOT to be elected? Is "I will feed your children to my dogs and force all of you into marriage with my ugly and dementia ridden grandmother and order the military to burn down your houses and have you all starve, whilst eating fried chicken in front of your noses - but imagine how great you will feel by comparison, if you by chance are none of the victims" enough? I'm Argentinian and hated Milei for years. Some time ago Milei being the president was a joke so absurd that no one would think of it. The thing that hurts me the most is the destruction of science and education. All national universities anounced that with the budget that Milei gave them they won't be able to work after april. I just want to study maths and don't have to worry about my university or the whole field I wanna work on being destroyed.

Por otro lado, Café Millennial es una colaboración entre 2 youtubers (Pablo Borda y Café Kyoto, chequea esos canales de paso) que por el momento están de vacaciones, supongo que en marzo retoman el espacio.

Hopefully people realize how terrible these libertarian ideas are. In less than two months of government, prices gone up and buying basic things is getting more and more expensive (even some products like milk from the same brand are 2 times the price of december)... if you add the inflation we had the past years, the situation is tough... As always, good video 👍 I realize this channel researches before making this content

Yeah but that's just the real prices (bar price controls) showing themselves. And one does not recover from a catastrophic economic fireball quickly, look at the post world war one depression (By far the largest economic contraction in United States history), it was over in 18 months after sane management (without Milei's dictatorial powers), the bulk of it amounted to fiscal policy (Argentina's biggest problem) funnily enough. We'll see if his ideas function in the modern world though (one without a gold back currency and large, effectively state sponsored corporate entities vying for control over economic resources of foreign nations).
